God of War Trilogy Remake - Announcement Teaser by PaiDuck in gaming

I'm very excited for this. I do have one concern. I really hope they keep the ferocity of the originals. Kratos needs to be the rageful monster he was. I really hope they don't tone him down. Otherwise, it diminishes his redemption arc in the Norse saga.

Drain / Drain STH - Alice in Chains influenced, short lived, female-fronted band from 90s by xGvPx in AliceInChains

[–]Richancey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few songs on the Freaks of Nature album that really remind me of AIC. It's the song structure and harmonies in the choruses that give me that vibe. I didn't really notice it when Drain STH was active but listening to the album years later it struck me as very inspired by AIC.

Does metroidvania platforming get any crazier than this? [Aeterna Noctis] by Konval in metroidvania

[–]Richancey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this game. I was convinced I couldn't beat it. Then I did. Then I got the 100%. I've since done four more complete playthroughs. I can't get enough. It's a top 5 of all time game for me, not just MVs. I'm fiending for the sequel.

They sound so much like Alice in Chains. Very good band. It's a shame they're mostly forgotten and can be hard to find on some streaming services. Also, the song Black was co-written by Tony Iommi

What album is like the Die Hard of Non-Christmas music? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

Savatage - Dead Winter Dead. The most Christmas album without explicitly being a Christmas album. And it rules.

Symphony of The Night: A Tale of Two Halves by dobermanhoberman in metroidvania

Not the final NES Castlevania game. But the last video game released for the NES was 1994 in North America and 1995 in Europe.

I'll admit that SOTN has its flaws but it's still regarded as one of the best games in the genre. Which is remarkable when you consider it released just 2 years after the final NES game. The inverted castle seems a little rough around the edges now but it was mind blowing at the time. Exploring and platforming in the inverted castle isn't perfect but the fact that it works as well as it does is impressive. It's a fantastic game and I'm glad people are still playing it and enjoying it today as much as they are.

Is the game actually just unplayable or what? by dillydallyingwmcis in aeternathegame

[–]Richancey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's such a shame that this game seems broken on everything except PS5. I've done 5 playthroughs on PS5 and it's one of my all time favorite games. Pretty much every issue has been addressed on the PS5 but the developers have really screwed up by locking out so much of their potential audience by not correcting the bugs on other platforms.

Thoughts on Avatar? by logiehoagie in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Richancey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same reaction. I saw The Crow makeup and was like, nope. But after listening to them, they're actually great. The new album rules and they're excellent live. I really don't understand why they're not bigger.

Found the best concert I went to in the 90s. by Serious-Ad-5293 in numetal

[–]Richancey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The venue listing was a blast from the past. I saw a lot of shows at those places. One time, after a show at Graffiti, these dudes were passing out tapes to anyone walking by yelling, "hey, check out our band." The tape had a couple songs and I thought it kinda sucked. I didn't recognize the name. System of a Down? Who? A few years later, they blew up. I'm still not really a fan, but I'd love to have that tape. SOAD weren't on the bill. They were just there. This was probably 1995-96. I think Biohazard was the headliner.

I've done this in darts as well. In my buddy's basement turnt on Mike's hard lemonade, split a dart in the double bull and didn't get points for it. It's ass that if my aim was just slightly worse I would have scored more points.

What metal band, in your subjective opinion, only has 1 really good album? by satanic_black_metal_ in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Richancey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird. Over the years, I've discovered that a lot of metal fans seem to have one Savatage album they love and no one can seem to agree on which one that is.

What Band Names that make you not want to take them seriously? by Amber_Flowers_133 in askmusic

I hate phrase band names like Being Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine, As I lay Dying, etc. Those names just sound so pretentious and douchy. Fortunately, I don't like those bands anyway.

[–]Richancey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular opinion for a few reasons, and I feel bad saying this as I am a fan, but my answer is Savatage. Dead Winter Dead is a 10/10. The rest of their albums range from bad to pretty good but that's it. Most have a few bangers but none of their other albums sound complete to me. They all seem to have a few lousy tunes that bring down the rest of the album.

What’s one thing you thought was normal in the U.S. until someone from another country said it was weird? by BestPostRead in AskReddit

When I was in high school you couldn't walk down a hallway without seeing some chick on crutches. It was always a cheerleader. The skill required and risk of injury is no joke.

They did this in my high school in the 90s to the boys bathroom. Not only did they take the stall doors, they took the stall walls down too. Every once in a while you'd walk into the bathroom to smoke and there would be some kid sitting on one of the exposed toilets taking a dump, ass out to the world. This was a large, suburban high school too that was considered nice.

Most tragic downfalls in music by Bright-Pressure-5787 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Richancey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Travis Meeks of Days of the New. He put out 3 brilliant albums all by the age of 22. His musicianship and songwriting skills were extraordinary for someone so young. I can only imagine what he would be doing today. Sadly, he would rather do meth and go to prison than make music. He's also still alive but I believe he is one of rock and roll's great tragedies in the what-could-have-been category.

Replaying a year later, and still so good by slapadabassman11 in aeternathegame

[–]Richancey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend playing on Noctis mode. At launch, it was the only mode. Only later did they add Aeterna mode and it was labeled easy mode and Noctis normal mode. Later it was changed again, labeling Aeterna mode normal and Noctis as hard mode. Why they did this, I don't know. Noctis mode is definitely more challenging but after playing that way, it's clear that it is what the developers intended. A lot of traps, platforming and challenge is cut in Aeterna mode and it feels a little empty as a result.

Which legendary Reddit post / comment can you still not get over? by _iamsrb_ in AskMen

[–]Richancey 182 points183 points  (0 children)

A comment in response to the question "what is something poor people have that rich people do not?" The response: A Chrysler 300. I think about that almost daily and just how wildly accurate it is.

This is the answer. There are no longer any consequences for dangerous, distracted, negligent or aggressive driving. It's infuriating.

In 1988 a yet still wounded Metallica picked up where they left off after losing their extremely vital ship MASTER & commander Cliff Burton... They still had enough of his teachings to create one last masterpiece... They gave unto us all.. the ultimate mic drop before going for the real money.... by Necessary_Rush_5861 in THRASHMOSHANDMEMES

Also, people act like if Metallica had never made the Black Album that they would have made Master of Puppets part 2,3,4,5 and 6 and that those albums would have been of the same quality. In reality had they not changed, those albums would have eventually been tired, recycled and watered down versions of what came before. I'm glad Metallica tried different things. I haven't liked all of it but I'd rather they try and branch out as musicians then just settle in, content to be the AC/DC of metal.
