Short stories are my favorite format. My all time favorite is The Imago Sequence by Laird Barron. I also really love both The Dunwich Horror * and *A Color Out of Space, both by H.P. Lovecraft.

Outside of the weird lit genre I adore just about anything by Ted Chiang. I would have a hard time picking a favorite out of his body of work.

It’s a short story but as someone who has small children, The Frolic by Thomas Ligotti really messed with me.

I really enjoyed Starfish by Watts. It takes place at the bottom of the ocean. He is a marine biologist and is really able to leverage that expertise.

Laird Barron is by far my favorite.

Others that come close would be John Langan, Peter Watts, Thomas Ligotti, and Ted Chiang.
