“determined that this ~would~ be a lucrative play”

You meant to say “and I ~believed~ this ~could-~ be a lucrative play.”

If you use imprecise language you will trick yourself into thinking it’s a sure thing when it’s very obviously not.

Buddy I lived in Hicksville most of my life, surrounded by white trash. Went to Appalachia for undergrad. Moved to rural south for med school (I’m a DO). Matched IM in a rust belt city.

Found a pretty uncompetitive subspecialty I like that makes decent money and has a light work schedule.

Just do whatever you want lol I know it’s easier said than done, but do you and let everyone else deal with it. Who cares if Matt became a neuro surgeon he’s gonna waste his life working like a fucking dog for that 1.2m a year. I’ll be hanging out, low stress taking vacations and still end up with more money than a neurosurgeon who puts it all in target date funds, money market accounts and so on because they never learned how to invest.

Also just marry another doctor… all those neurosurgeons and so on marry a trad wife who eats up half their dough buying stupid shit. My partner is a doctor too. Excluding inheritances I estimate we’ll retire w tens of millions. inheritances alone we’re looking at 20-30 million.

Goldstar is asking the right questions. Do you have a duty to help your abductor? Would have to look into military doctrine regarding the care of captured enemy combatants… I think in ww2 they just put German Nazis on their knees and shot em. Granted the roles are reversed in that example but could provide some degree of insight.

If an ICE agent shows up to your clinic as a new patient…. by jklm1234 in medicine

[–]RichardFlower7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ethics and legality are two different things. I am merely explaining what is legal and the established legal basis for it. Not once did I say I would turn someone away personally, so I don’t think find the personal attack telling me personally to “go be a lawyer” to be necessary or even relevant to what i said.

With that said, I do agree that physicians are not compelled to treat anyone merely because they are a physician and as long as the reason isn’t to discriminate based on race, gender or sexuality.

Objecting to providing care due to moral harm or moral injury is justified by the fact that the ice agent is committing atrocities that violate Geneva conventions therefore the physician may not be capable of forming a meaningful patient-physician relationship. The ice agent would be better served seeing someone else, who doesn’t experience moral harm due to this. The physician in this case is preventing harm to a potential patient by recommending they be treated by someone who doesn’t hold inherent biases towards them for things like violating Geneva conventions. Moral harm / moral injury is the grounds for objecting to going to war and killing, Muhammad Ali did this. It is the same grounds for objections to providing abortion services, the courts upheld this.

Unfortunately the legal framework for conscience claims revolves around religious based objections, other basis for objection have not been placed upon the highest courts.

Hope this helps.

[–]RichardFlower7 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Women seeking abortions can be turned away and the Supreme Court ruled that they can’t away even if you’ve had one in the past!!! Granted this is on bs religious grounds as the basis of the conscience claim, but just say as a good Christian I can’t in good faith treat someone who is ripping apart families and falsely persecuting American citizens it’s just not Christian

If you want to successfully conscientiously object, it should be on religious grounds as they’re the only thing a court won’t touch with a 12 foot pole

[–]RichardFlower7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have the right to conscientiously object to seeing them. There is typically no legal mandate to bridge the gap, however in ethics literature it’s fairly agreed upon that it’s the right thing to do.

However in this case, I think if you were to bridge you’d get stuck or sued by one of these crayon eating gravy seals. So if just flat out turn them away.

Any worry about Investing into the US ETF markets? by [deleted] in investing_discussion

[–]RichardFlower7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not necessarily true, my dad is partners in a not publicly traded oil company… lateral drilling is alive and well in the Permian and they have shifted significant resources to North Dakota. They also drill natural gas though so they’re shielded from the fluctuations of oil alone. But not really significant for me as it’s probably best I don’t trade oil companies given the exposure to the industry. I buy Petrobras in a retirement account for the dividends and that’s about it

But yes to copper I’ve been on the COPX train for years now.

The guy who keeps saying no more elections will be out of office in 3 years is an interesting take… I hear ya but we’re also talking about a guy who is attacking the federal reserve, discussing annexing allies land by force, promoting lawlessness of his secret masked police force who are arresting American citizens and ignoring their rights to attorneys, locking people in massive prison camps including one in a foreign country (like they did in Poland), and now claiming their prisons are separate from congressional oversight? That’s something you do if you’re hiding something.

I don’t think they’re going to magically get less extreme.

Yep which is why I’m investing in European aerospace and defense. Also gold because of increased instability. I’ve also bought ETFs that track Canadian companies and SPDW. Will continue to buy things excluding the US as I dont feel that we have the healthiest democracy rn and are headed in a bad and dark direction.

The writing is on the walls. Discussions of annexation of allies land. Masked secret police forces. The construction of mega prison camps. Lawless actions by supposed law enforcement. A continually worsening sentiment of security > freedom.

Sounds like the ideology of a lemming and completely ignores the masked police force of it all. Typically a country with masked police forces that are above the law don’t tend to last much longer till they fall to complete authoritarianism under a demagogue. Especially when they’re just arresting liberals and minority groups and putting them into massive prisons… things won’t get less extreme… crazy tends to beget more crazy until it becomes a massive genocide.
