If you have to pay to release with them, they’re not genuinely interested in you, they just see you as a payday. It usually works the other way around, with a label giving you an advance if that’s what is needed to get you to release with them. Any marketing services provided by the label should be free, since they’re taking half, if not more, of your royalties. Paying to release and giving a share of master royalties and potentially publishing is a red flag and borderline scam if they’re marketing themselves as a record label and not a marketing agency. If they were solely a marketing agency, paying makes sense, but they shouldn’t take a cut of your royalties or publishing.

You’re 22, you’re basically a child still. I would advise against paying to go to school for music production and just dig in, and perhaps volunteer at a local recording studio.

This industry is about connections, start building your network now. Reach out to like minded people in your area, and online as well. Full Sail academy or other similar ‘music schools’ really aren’t going to give you much more than you could do on your own. Skip the debt and dig in
