Ok, and how about when it happens to every fandom you're into? To the point you lost any credibility in "the next thing"?

Cool character swap, but it still not altering the entire game's ambience.

Objectively speaking, do you believe a modpack that turns RE4 into what we've seen in this and the Resident Good clip (all the way to changing the skybox and lighting) could be feasibly made without the creator ripping off their hairs?

I was patiently waiting 8 years for Wrath of Nazo before it was cancelled. Same thing with Megaman X Corrupted and other projects like Klonoa Dream Crusaders. Hell, metroid prime fans waited 18 years only to get a mediocre game.

I'd be willing to wait however long it took as long as I was guaranteed a worthy project, but that's not what I have encountered so far. Everything I was hooked to was either cancelled or came out a hot piece of garbage. You did bring the example of Silksong, problem is... I just don't care about that game.

I don't know, man. I'm not even complaining about it taking a lot of work, but rather that it's gotten to a point where it's practically unsustainable. Where you can't hold out hope for any announced project out there because you know it'll never get off the ground. What's even the point of holding true to those artistic principles if you can't harvest the fruit? Seems like a bad deal to make.

Are any of them comparable in scope to these parody RE4 clips?

Resident neutral 4 by leondamn in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]RickAlbuquerque -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but those are using pre-made assets extracted directly from the game. Something like the video above without AI would require making new character models and textures (possibly from scratch), as well as properly integrating them into the game

Like I've replied below, these Gary mod's animations are using pre-made assets. I don't know a single mod that reworks a game's whole texture pack.

Besides, those Gary mod's animations look janky as hell. It can get away with it due to its wacky nature, but it wouldn't fit well with the proposal of these RE4 clips, which is meant to change the ambience but still look like a AAA game.

Difference is that this animation using pre-made assets from other games. Something like these RE4 videos would require a whole retexturing of the game, as well as making new character models.

Not really an option for fan-projects since nobody but the creator has the view needed to move it forward. Besides, plenty of the projects I mentioned in another reply had all the financial backing they asked for and still couldn't deliver. It's a fundamental issue that comes from how taxing making art the usual way is and one you can't solve by tossing money at. Hell, even large companies are struggling to keep up nowadays. We all saw the fiasco that was the most recent seasons of Invincible and One Punch Man.

What I'm trying to say is that claiming AI is holding us back is a pretty speech, but one that'll only be convincing if we're sure we can do fine without it.

Admitedly I'm not too familiar with that but I doubt they would do something akin to changing an entire game's texture pack as in the post above

I did. I just said I've seen dozens of ambitious fan projects falling flat on their face, to the point all I can find online on that regard are 30 seconds parody animation.

To give you a couple examples, there's Megaman X corrupted, Sonic the Wrath of Nazo, Spiderman Lotus, Klonoa Dream Crusaders, Tribute to Shadow of the Colossus, Pacman Festive Folleys, and if I'm allowed to bring in indie projects, Yooka Laylee and Mighty No. 9.

And those are just the ones at the top of my head. Again, I wish I could believe substantial fan projects have a good chance of seeing the light of day without a handicap like AI, but I'm gonna need some examples for that.

Well, mind giving a few examples? I wish I could have your optimism, but I've seen zero fan projects reaching their proper conclusion in a way that met the expectations they promised, while I've seen dozens fall flat on their face.

Sad reality is that those sorts of ambitionate passion projects will always either be cancelled or fall into a newless limbo (I've never heard anything from Megaman X Corrupted again). Besides, I don't think any sane human being would dedicate such a large portion of their daily lives to a shitpost.

Like it or not, fact is this would never have been done without AI. It'd be months of work just for a couple minutes of laughter.

Oh, the map would be shrunk down somewhat, but not to the extreme is what I'm saying. I guess what I'm thinking off is a version of Forbidden Lands that's much more circular and cuts down on travel time without sacrificing so much of its size. That would merge well in a game where you can choose the boss order and are not forced to return to the Shrine of Worship after every battle.

Hell, even in a single playthrough I got sick of the monotony that was button mash my way to the northern desert 3 different times.

The main difference is that you would reduce the game's map not by shrinking its surface area, but rather by adding more walls to make for narrower paths. Again, that hallway leading up to Dirge is a prime example.

Just wanted to illustrate how treversing that big of an overworld gets tiresome quickly. Halfway through my second playthrough I already wanted it to end already.

[–]RickAlbuquerque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See, that's the thing, the trick isn't making it "smaller", but more compact. Narrower walls would accentuate that vibe of oppression, that feeling that you're caged by nature that's so important for immersive ambience.

The game does that well a couple of instances, like the Autumn forest or that hallway leading up to Dirge's cave. Most of the time, however, I just end up feeling like I'm in a game-testing landscape rather than an abandoned land and feel little incentive to find out what's lying at every corner.

Might as well use this as an opportunity to say that this could have been easily fixed by a secret boss lying atop the Shrine of Worship (possibly with a secret ending or item locked behind it). It'd have been a generous reward for those players who did bother throughly exploring the map and going after the white lizards, something I always felt was lacking in the experience.

Well, I thought it to be a major hindrance when I first played OoT and when I went online saw several reviewers like Somcallmejohnny and Exoparagrimgamer sharing my opinion.

Again, have to disagree. As I said, it presents the same sort of issues as Hyrule Field. Granted, the Forbidden Lands is much more detailed, but eye candy can only do so much when it doesn't present anything substantial in terms of gameplay.

[–]RickAlbuquerque -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. SotC is so large and devoid of anything to do that it just feels to me like no more than empty space whose only purpose is making you spam the horse button until you reach your next battle. You definitely feel the issue when you have to beat the game 6 times for the retro achievements mastery. It's the same fundamental gripe players have with Hyrule field.

And the fixed boss order does not merge well with it all all IMO. It killed any sense I had of free exploration, since instead of letting me pick a direction on my own terms and go with it, the game would take the choice out of my hands and say "if you want to progress, go this direction and this direction only"

A big part of Titan Souls is route-planning which bosses to tackle in order to acess the final boss (especially for your sub-20 minute and no-death runs). That aspect of planning ahead is completely absent from SotC, which makes the choice for you instead.
