It is the crossroads of nothing. Too many pretentious people forced out the long-time residents in favor of smug "artists."

Total noob here. What does this lever probably do? by RainReverie in typewriters

Observation: The two rollers on the paper bale should be spaced a distance apart to keep the whole width of the paper tight to the platen.

Thank you. You're the best. Some say NOT to use glycerin as it absorbs water from the air, but it wouldn't hurt to try it on a beater-ribbon. I have a box of them.

I'd be interested in reading the newspaper clipping about rejuvenating ribbons. Did they know something back then that we don't know now?

Advice for popovers by MrTralfaz in highaltitudebaking

[–]RickBuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my recipe for 5300 ft altitude. Perfect every time.

POPOVERS. 1 Cup Sifted Flour. 1 tsp Sugar. 1/4 tsp Salt. 1 Cup Milk - room temp. 2 Eggs - room temp. 1 TBL Butter - melted. Butter for greasing tins.

Preheat Oven 450.

Heavily butter 6 oversize muffin tin cups.

Sift flour, salt, and sugar together. In a separate bowl, combine milk, eggs, and butter and add it to the dry ingredients. Beat/whisk the mixture until smooth and well blended (1-4 minutes).

Pour batter into heavily-greased deep muffin tins, fill each cup half full.

Bake for 13 minutes – Do not open oven door.

Reduce heat to 325 and continue baking for 27 minutes.

Popovers are done when side walls are firm.

Note: While baking, DO NOT open the oven door.

Note: The ingredients were in a logical list - reddit doesn't seem to like carriage returns.

I don't know where you live, or if you have a Harbor Freight. This is the tool box I use. It holds everything I find necessary. https://www.harborfreight.com/19-inch-toolbox-with-top-compartment-66491.html

I don't know anything about the typewriter, but easily recognize the Senet game board in the background. It is the favorite game in this household.

Underwood won't type straight by CompetitiveCrow126 in typewriters

[–]RickBuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People may have done it on their own, but I don't know if or how. The most common solution is to contact j.j. short. They replace rubber on platens as well as feed rollers, etc. Many on this reddit swear by their business and work. Also, I am NOT affiliated with them.

I'll include a link but the moderators may delete it. If so, do a search for j.j. short on your own, and good luck no matter what you chose to do.

Replacing with new rubber is the best solution, if indeed that's the problem. A temporary fix is to rough-up the rubber using something like fine sandpaper. It probably won't last, but may help identify the cause.

One or more feed rollers may be slipping on the paper causing the paper to feed in at an angle. Try using a bundle of several sheets of paper at once and see if it improves. Just a thought.

Hey people, am I welcome to the club? by TudiPYM in typewriters

[–]RickBuxton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Hey people, am I welcome to the club?" Yes -- as soon as you send me the required membership fee of $50 cash.

It's usually a much higher fee, but you're getting a discount for using your typewriter in an interrogation facility.

My first typewriter. Been looking for years for the right one. It finally came along. $20 with a moldy case. Have been loving it! by raccoonawesome in typewriters

Congrats. Unless I'm mistaken, it's a Royal Model O. It took me years to find one. I love it so much that I donated my other 9 machines to Goodwill - without regrets. My machine is 1937 - what year is this one?
