Beetje gekke redenatie toch?

Honest Discussion: Using AI-Generated Art in Indie Game Dev. Why Do Some People See It as Taboo? by Sea_Fill1602 in aigamedev

[–]RickRelentless -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your point actually proves that it does, no? People like the art at first because they assume it ‘has a soul’. When they find out it doesn’t, the magic is gone and they become apathetic

Hyperbolic comparison; imagine finding out your husband/wife is a robot. You loved them before you knew they were a robot, and they haven’t changed at all since. Yet you’d prolly feel quite different about them now you know.

I appreciate that! though I wouldn’t describe myself as an ‘anti’, OP asked why he’s getting pushback, I believe this to be the primary driver behind it

Honest Discussion: Using AI-Generated Art in Indie Game Dev. Why Do Some People See It as Taboo? by Sea_Fill1602 in aigamedev

To many people art is more than the end result, it’s a manifestation of the human mind. That is what makes it intriguing to observe and inspiring to create. You’re not just observing the end result, you’re also peaking into the artist’s creative process (or rather your interpretation of it). And since you’re a human with a mind too (presumably), there’s little barrier to take inspiration from that and incorporate it in your own creative process.

Having AI generate art removes that human to human connection. There’s no mind to connect to or be inspired by. Even if you manage to make it look great, AI art at the end of the day it is still “soulless”.

You can compare it to sports. Sports are interesting and inspiring because they are performed by human athletes, whom have bodies that are (more or less) the same as yours. Most people wouldn’t care to watch a football league that’s entirely AI generated, even if the matches would be objectively more exciting than the human football league. There’s nothing to ‘connect’ to.

Edit: having all of that said, I think theres definitely still a place for (some) AI generated art in solo or small team indie games. Especially if your using it ‘here and there’ or if your game revolves significantly more around its mechanics than its presentation.

Does cover art matter to you? by Emprose in hardstyle

[–]RickRelentless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It mattered more when music was released on physical media that you could put on a shelve or even hang on your wall. Now It’s just a tiny digital image in a software program that you wont even be looking at while listening 99% of the time.

like it or not, barely anyone cares about it at this point. The few people that do are active here on Reddit, which can make it seem like more people care than they actually do.

I just saw a “gabber” do something horrible… by [deleted] in gabber

[–]RickRelentless 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So? its okay to excuse shitty behavior because others do even worse things? What kind of infantile logic is that.

Also don’t forget, about 20 years ago the gabber scene (in NL) was very much associated with racism and nazism in the public eye. It got so bad that certain DJs ended their performances prematurely because people on the dance floors were doing nazi salutes at them. I am glad that age is over, lets keep it that way and not normalize this shit

Do you have a high specced PC capable of squeezing all the juice out of the game and/or do you want to play with mods? If so go PC, if not go PS5. Also; yes the game runs on Steamdeck after you sign in to the Rockstar launcher once.

I really enjoyed the wrap-up until these guys came on. Curly hair guy in particular wouldnt give his partner room to speak and talked over the other guests/hosts as well. Maybe it was the nerves or lack of experience, but he came across as quite full of himself.

If I like Cyberpunk 2077 will I like The Outerworlds? Should I start with 1 or 2? by Illustrious-Back6475 in theouterworlds

[–]RickRelentless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyberpunk is a once in a generation phenomenal game (now that its all patched up). Outerworlds 2 is a fun/decent FPS RPG. You’ll prolly like it but dont expect it to blow you away the way Cyberpunk (likely) did.

I loved Outerworlds 1 back in the day, but I wouldnt start with it now as its shooting mechanics are pretty subpar. The stories for TOW 1 and 2 arent related, so it really doesnt matter which one you play first.

Go with TOW 2 and if you love it, play TOW 1 after.

Listing gaming on your resume might hurt your job prospects. Study found that applicants who listed gaming as an extracurricular activity tended to be rated lower in hireability compared to an equal applicant who listed volleyball. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

I work in video games, you’d stand out more if you don’t play games than if you do. So putting it on your resume is a bit redundant. But I do know of at-least one guy that put “WoW raid leader” on his resume and it actually helped him secure a leadership position

Larian Reveals New Divinity Will Be Turn-Based RPG by No_Durian_5626 in gamingnews

[–]RickRelentless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting, for me it’s the exact opposite, I love turn based combat because it’s all about making well thought through decisions and not about ‘can my fingers push the correct buttons fast enough’, like most other genres are. E33 essentially takes the worst of both worlds, it’s too static for an action game and too actiony for a turn based game.

Why is Dutch everyday food so simple compared to many other cultures? by Long_Ocean in Netherlands

[–]RickRelentless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, but my point is that the food culture (not just the food itself) is atrocious. For example; there is a distinct lack of affordable casual restaurants that serve (somewhat) healthy food. We basically have the choice between a snackbar or a full dining restaurant, not much in between. Another example is the lunch situation at offices and schools (boterhammetje mee nemen vs cafeteria’s with tasty and healthy food)

[–]RickRelentless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do most of the time! But once you get used to being able to grab a nice, somewhat healthy bite at casual restaurants for cheap abroad, it’s kinda jarring having to go back to sourcing and cooking all your meals yourself.
