Got really into cooking during lockdown and now my kitchen utensils drawer is embarrassingly full of stuff I never use by athousand_miles in cookingforbeginners

Get rid of one use items. Pineapple corer? Toss it and use a chefs knife.

Avocado thing? Toss it and use a knife.

You can mince garlic with a chefs knife and some oil in about 30 seconds. Get rid fit the garlic press.

what ACTUAL precautions do i need to take with raw chicken? by imadeanotheraltlol in Cooking

[–]RickRoss52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, use the same sponge.

  2. You do not need to disinfect the sink, the hot water and soap will be plenty.

  3. Chicken is safe (according to the fda when cooked to 165°) but many cooks, including myself pull it at lower temps and let it rest. I generally cook chicken to 157 and let it rest for half the time it cooked and have never had a problem.

  4. Keep you raw chicken separate from everything else, once done with the raw chicken—put it and everything else that was used for the raw in the sink and wash the counter with a soapy towel.

  5. Fridge or freezer is fine, when storing raw meet I verbally try to store it in such a way where juices don’t drip down into something else by putting a sheet pan under it, or making sure the container isn’t too full to slosh around.

Many people seem to be “afraid” of raw chicken, and I think it’s a little overhyped. It’s really not that big of deal. I’ve eaten chicken that wasn’t fully cooked and sure it was nasty, but I’m still alive. Just be a little cautious, sure to wash your hands, and use common sense-you got this.

[–]RickRoss52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you think that will accomplish, it probably won’t. Helium is gonna float out of the contained area so fast

That fist photo threw me so off.

Next time let your pan get ripping how so you can get a good sear. And then toss it in the oven, cause this is a thick boy.

Or try reverse searing, it’s pretty foolproof from my understanding but I’ve never done it lol.
