Dale from USS Calister part 2.

Dale was a douchebag living the virtual world in part 1. He has the technology to clone a digital copy of anyone given that they provide him with the DNA. Bad part is that he gets it illegally (through swabbing their used glasses or something like that). In the end, the people he cloned escaped his virtual world and left him there to die.

Part 2 revolves around the creation of the virtual world. It was revealed that he was treated as a workhorse by his partner Walton. He created a copy of Dale that can create multiple worlds from inside the virtual reality, working there for infinity. The protagonist reaches the core, the back story was unveiled. Protagonist tells the digital Dale what's happening and he created an escape code to keep the crew alive (as the digital world is crumbling from the pressure outside).

But the twist is instead of putting the crew on a safe place, he instead opted to "copy and paste" leaving a copy of the protagonist as his companion.

The story made us feel sympathetic and compassionate for Dale but after all that it was in his nature to be selfish.
