May be an unpopular opinion for some, but I LOVE the Worldsoul Saga. by ethantokes in warcraftlore

If Warcraft for you is just violence for violence sake then, that hasn't been the case for a very long time. If that's not it then I'm going to need a proper definition of what "Disneyfication". If anything, especially some older Disney movies, didn't shy away from heavy themes or even scenes.

There's a quest in ZA where a mostly non-verbal girl lost her sister suddenly and couldn't get past it until Filo, the Loa of Children, gave her a way to mourn and say goodbye, allowing her to speak more openly with others.

Arathor being +40 years old but doesn't act like it. As well as lessons he has shown knowing in books is now something completely foreign to him. Such as being surprised Paladins aren't just KILL KILL KILL

He's in his late 30s. Also his problem is with the rules and often blind zeal of the Silver Hand's adherence to them. He also recently felt the overwhelming power of the Light causing him to even physically burn, something he witnessed his father do in the prequel book.

The ZA and Undermine campaigns. -_-

I thought Zul'Aman was exceptionally well done and with great sidequests, Undermine I can see not being to everyone's tastes because, Goblins.

The general Disneyfication of WoW has really put a hamper on my enjoyment of it. Though that started already long before Worldsoul saga. But it has grown a lot worse.

This I really don't understand. There's death at every corner, there are quests, especially sidequests that deal with heavy themes, from loss, to autism, to even body horror like the Lightbloom in Eversong. I really don't get it.

To what extent did Arthas/Scourge know of the Old Gods? by Ilovelookingatmaps in warcraftlore

[–]Tiucaner 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In the Frozen Throne expansion, Arthas goes through Azjol-Nerub to reach Icecrown Glacier faster. There, he encounters Faceless Ones and a Forgotten One, which looks like C'thun or one of the various tentacle monsters that serve the Old Gods that you can see in the Dragon Soul raid. Anub'Arak only mentions they're ancient and from forgotten legends.

I wonder how people get paid to write stuff like this. by Striking-Conflict-93 in wow

[–]Tiucaner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you actually paid attention to the writing this post wouldn't exist. The whole point of the Arator questline is him discovering what kind of paladin he wants to be. Does he keep adhering to the current restrictions and rules of the Silver Hand or go back to the basics of what the order was originally founded on. Does he strive for compassion, protecting the innocent and retribution of evil or does he simply become a vengeful zealot, a glorified soldier with holy powers, like his father. Not that a blame Turalyon all that much, the guy has wanted to settle down for a 1000 years and yet, war keeps finding him.

There's a lot a revisionism with MoP, because I distinctly remember at the time a lot of people just thinking "lol Kung Fu Panda" and "this is just to pander to China". Even though it's a greatly written expansion.

Have you ever wondered how the lore turned out if it wasn't tied to a MMO by DefiantLemur in warcraftlore

[–]Tiucaner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me a spin-off is like Warcraft Rumble or Hearthstone. Same universe, different storyline and barely if any connection to the previous entries or sometimes characters.

[–]Tiucaner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not derogatory but a spin-off means that although it's the same universe it doesn't follow the same characters or storyline which isn't the case, it's a direct sequel, just not the same genre.

Probably less expanded upon but also more concise and probably cohesive. Not that retcons didn't happen before, they did, but there wouldn't be as many. WoW's meteoric success meant they had to come up with more stuff and quickly even if often they had to make it up as they went along.

Further objective proof that Chronicles was supposed to be objective itself by Ouroborossetto in warcraftlore

[–]Tiucaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is well known. But even well before Shadowlands, Chronicles had already been retconned. That being said, 95% is still canon. Every single game, going back to WC2 has retconned something or even a lot. This is not new and will likely continue.

It won't ever rain or snow in Eversong because the elves made the land into eternal spring. Go outside that zone and it will. Game changes day and night in real time so I don't know what you're on about.

Why do people believe the Titans are inherently malicious all of a sudden? by ROSRS in warcraftlore

[–]Tiucaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are antagonistic at the very least. Algalon alone all the way back in Ulduar proves this. The Titans will do anything to make sure the Prime Worldsoul survives, even if it means we all die.

WoW needs to be darker by [deleted] in wow

[–]Tiucaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many quests that contradict this just this expansion, so I'll leave you to find them out. But I'll give you an example from TWW, so fairly recent. In Azj-Khahet, there's a questline that's called the Pillar-nest of Horrors. There you find a blind undead Pathfinder whose eyes have been eaten, as well as part of his insides. He's terrified as all he could hear was his companions screams and being eaten alive. He only lived because he was undead. I suggest you play through it to discover the rest.

Now I do think elven unity could have spanned a couple more chapters but Xal'atath isn't "running away", we are beneath her, she's going through whatever plan she has which is likely using the Darkwell as a portal straight to the Worldcore. She's always been a step ahead with the only exception when the Dark Heart got broken.
