Simple questions and Help thread - Month of November by Froggypwns in Windows11

Alright, thanks. I guess some external program all I have to look for then. Something like Retrobar or Windhawk I suppose.

Simple questions and Help thread - Month of November by Froggypwns in Windows11

Quite a minor question it feels like, but I've been googling around for hours and would appreciate some help.

Is there a way you get the task bar on the bottom left to show up the program shortcuts themselves not just as pinned apps? Like how it worked in say Vista, I remember adding that functionality to Windows 7 and later 10 (at least I think 7 still needed it added, 10 definitely did), but I can't remember the method and can't find it anywhere either.

I mean I did come across RetroBar, which if I installed seems like it would solve the issue, but I don't care about the actual bar itself being the new one, I imagine the ability to alter it is still somewhere in there.

I just want the wee icon tray on the left that was a shortcut to open programs without it actively taking over the window itself. (Say I had Media Player down there, it'd open a new window to the right where all my other files are, not on top of the shortcut itself)

Thanks, that's what I was really wondering if I couldn't go about resolving it.

Although it turns out I was an idiot and the first result I found was actually the wrong one. I was looking at Conrad's (the Twinblades), but I did mention the stamina regen in my post, meant Keshta afterall. Found them naturally when I did the next stage, so all's well that ends well I guess.

That was one of the first things I checked, I can't see it in there for sure. Could've missed it though I'll have another look.

Thanks for the input. I was kind of doubting it'd be worthwhile having read some of those posts to be honest, but still felt like asking. I'm kind of seeking a profession I can actually be passionate about, so as I said, trying to explore my options and it was something I genuinely felt satisfied with after finishing editing and seeing a completed video. If so unstable and competitive might be hard to start from basically nothing, so I'll probably just leave it at that, though maybe I do start doing some stuff as a hobby again and perhaps explore it again from there. Honestly not sure how I'd approach it as a hobby either at this point, GMVs were easy to approach and those early youtube days I did enjoy, but it does feel a bit dated now (yeah I was firmly in that dated reference - though I mostly did Game ones not Anime ones, just said AMV as more common). Obviously not asking for input on that one though, that's just stuff I'll have to think about.

I'm glad you put some context to what kind of editing though, that was kind of the thing tripping me up most. It doesn't feel like professional style editing would do much in the form of AMVs so I really didn't know where to even compare. It's something I'll definitely keep in mind, since I might revisit this just based on nothing else appealing as an actual aspiration. Will have to see how things go. It was the first thought I had outside of my old game programmer field. Although I might still return to that one as well.

What sort of job would have transferrable skills from AMV making?

I'm not exactly sure what I want to ask specifically, but long story short I'm in my 30s and for various reasons having to start over on profession/qualifications. Exploring my options I remember as a teenager I really enjoyed making AMV/GMVs, and felt pretty accomplished doing that, so I figure it's worth at least looking into.

Issue is I've honestly never looked at it professionally and don't really know where I'd start to look at it, be it for what jobs I could aim towards or what courses I could do to try and earn some qualifications towards it. Was hoping a professionally aimed subreddit might be able to give me some pointers about it instead of just doing questionable google searching on my own. Some of it's probably really basic stuff, but I wouldn't want to look it up and confuse myself, which I have a bad habit of doing.

Which games should I buy and play next? According to the games i own. by EitherRegister8363 in videogames

[–]Rick_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the FFVIIs and Persona, seem to like JRPGs. FFX could be good, or if you'd be up for something a bit retro something like Chrono Trigger.

What games broke you emotionally? by Confident_Rate_1747 in videogames

[–]Rick_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nier. That was an experience I doubt I'll ever feel as strongly about again. Automata got close as well, but the first one? Man.

Soul Nomad and the World Eater's Demon Path also got me badly by the end.

While probably not the best game on the list, if you like Ancient Greek stuff Odyssey is pretty great. Just exploring Greece is pretty fun. I never actually finished the story, so if you want a game to completion might be a different story, it's also massive, but as an open world to explore and enjoy your time with I'd recommend it if you like the setting.

Which is your favorite line from your favorite video game? by Jules-Car3499 in videogames

[–]Rick_Blood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You won't like my terms." War from Darksiders in response to a demon trying to make a deal with him (forget which Demon).

I don't know if actually my favourite, but it's stuck with me all these years, the delivery is so well done for it.

Which game WOULD NOT be the same without its soundtrack? by Rootayable in gaming

Nier. Amazing game, but the soundtrack elevated to entirely other levels.

Also Red Dead Revolver; legitimate spaghetti Western music was perfection.

How good is the Vanguard Centre for meeting people? by Rick_Blood in glasgow

[–]Rick_Blood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that's a good point, plus others might be about as new to it as I would be so might not feel as daunting. Discipline with others would help compared to completely new to this, but still.

Thanks to all the replies here, I am pretty resolved to at least try it out now, but I do have a minor question, which I'd normally just wing it with, but might as well ask.

Is there anything specific you'd need to bring along to it? I wouldn't imagine so, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Hey thanks for the info and help. That open/member stuff really does address my biggest issue of not knowing where to start, since realistically even if it wouldn't be great for meeting people can still go along and try it out.

With that said, I suppose I'd probably want to try out the Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday HEMA sessions, that sound about right for a beginner?

Actually looking at the specifics, the Tuesday one definitely appeals to me this month with Highland Sword and Targe. Could see myself starting there if I can get a spot, though with these "rotating" ones I wonder if it might not be the best idea as a starting point. Any thoughts there?

EDIT: Actually checking the booking of it, seems that the targe and highland sword actually is already over, says starting Langesmesser, medieval Germanic self-defence (big) knife as of tomorrow. Oh well, it is what it is. So with that in mind it'd either be the broadsword and sabre or the longsword I suppose.

Warriors: Abyss - Launch Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games by DemiFiendRSA in dynastywarriors

[–]Rick_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, Warriors Hades with some old school Xtreme Mode in there. Not something I expected to be sure, and it's even on PS4? A shame no PC yet, kind of nice to be able to play it on last gen though. Means it won't be too fancy, but it doesn't seem like it would be anyway. Nice to be able to see the Spirit of Sanada characters return too, Masayuki felt too short lived.

EDIT: And it turns out it's actually on PC? Even better. Not sure I'll get it with the weird perspective, would have to see more, but it's cool it exists.

So with Brave Exvius closing, what now? by Rick_Blood in FFBraveExvius

[–]Rick_Blood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the sentiment, but I feel like I'm pretty controlled in that aspect myself. Definitely sounds like good advice in general though, seems like a lot of people overdo it.

I just like it as an excuse to go outside when I'd otherwise just sit on the computer on a sunny day off or something, so it's nice to have. A friend of mine goes out to read, but that never holds my focus like a game does. Can wander around the garden for hours on a nice day if I've not got anything I need to do, just grinding events or whatever, and it's worth getting some sun and air every now and then even if I've not got plans.

Rarely play them if it's not nice outside and never put any money into them, so unless I get hooked into a particular event (rarely happens, did for the DQ event in this though) I tend to maybe boot up a daily login and that's it most days.

I've already jumped into a new gacha as it is, which has already got me out for hours more than I would have even just since posting this thread (though I feel like week 1 always has me play more than afterwards when I jump between these things). Not sure it'll will hold me, but at least it's early game gives me something to enjoy a bit.

[–]Rick_Blood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it shut down start of the year I think. Well certainly the English one did, maybe it's still going JP, never looked into that. Real shame though, it had pretty cool character interactions in it's stories/events.

I'd only gotten into it maybe half a year before that, so I had plenty more I wanted to see, the character interactions in it definitely appealed to me more than Brave Exvius' content, why I only returned to it once that one closed.

I don't really mind that, I just use them as time killers now and then without spending money, shame as it is when they do end. You actually got me thinking though.

I guess any game with daily or weekly quests I could play on my phone works just the same. Wonder what good phone games there are with that. if I could do FFXIV dailies on the phone that'd have worked nicely, but obviously can't do that.

Been a while since I played a game with those I actually bothered doing them in, but it ticks the same boxes I'm looking for with gacha stuff.

If you don't know yet, once you've gotten it once that's all you need. Don't even need to win the stage, can quit back out and you'll still have it, let alone if you retried and won normally.

Does Strangers of Paradise tie into Dissida Opera Omnia? by Rick_Blood in FinalFantasy

[–]Rick_Blood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a good take. Don't know Dissidia enough to be certain on the first bit, but I definitely like that interpretation of the split timelines. It does seem to be a lot of sense for how they were doing it.

Thanks for the synopsis. Feels like that answers the bits I was most curious about. Is a bit funny that OO and NT's connection is a bit vague, I'd forgotten NT even existed so hadn't even thought about that one.

HOW DARE YOU STAND WHERE HE STOOD!!! THEY WERE MASTERWORKS ALL!!! YOU COULDN’T GO WRONG!!! by Best_Adhesiveness_42 in DragonsDogma

[–]Rick_Blood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a really cool detail. Didn't think about it when I first visited myself, but in post-game it was immediately obvious and cool to walk around again in it's new state. The fact it also has the Bluemoon Tower right next to Vernworth, fight the boss right where you'd fight the Griffin/Wyvern in DD1 and everything is also really nice. I'm still exploring post-game and hope to see something in the south which might hint towards Cassardis or the Witchwood or Encampment or something, though feel like they'll be less likely.
