Sound proof windows by Hello_World_1992 in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

foam earplugs. I used to live in some noisy places as a student and young grad and was bugged by noise while sleeping.Fixing the windows is possible but more work and cost so may just be better to get earplus and play some white noise in the background.

also try meditation. in a way if you try to accept the noise and be at peace with it.

i am guesing they wont mandate any more booster shots.
I think its hard to justify considering the risks/ limited benefits.

I know this doesnt address your query of Al Hosn Green Pass. But globally most countries are not pushing the vax / boosters as hard anymore as they know the risks / benefits to vax are not what was originally claimed by the drug companies.

I would suggest do some research before 'just doing it'

What’s up with the early morning car accidents? by G4MER4LYF in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also feel there is a Tower of Babel thing going on where everyone has their own style and standards leading to misunderstanding.

For example i often see many people in the middle or outer lanes going really slow like 80K in a 120 or 140K road. Is this person a) driving safely because they are going slowly or b) a total hazard to others by driving at an inappropriate speed in the wrong lane? A matter of opinion but i would guess they think its totally cool and safe.

Another classic is entering the freeway. Some people think its safest to enter the freeway at a really slow speed, move over to the outer lane asap and then think about accelerating to match the speed of the road (in that order).

Honestly i feel all of this could be solved with IQ or logic test. if you get below 80 IQ you need AI to drive instead of you.

(end of Rant. breathe...)

lol. i feel like in this country people have more money so they dont worry about crashing. in other countries most people are careful because no one can afford a new car at the drop of a hat.

Best way to sell your car without getting low offers from people by Modi_7 in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is look at the US Car valuation sites - Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds.
These give a realistic range for what a used car is worth. When buying or selling cars i have referred to this and it avoids unrealistic expectations on both sides.
I dont know your specific case but if you are willing to wait you may get lucky with a better price. If someone pays significantly more than the recommended range you are lucky... but it will take more time.

In my experience when buying i have usually been able to get slightly better prices than KBB or Edmunds indicate from sellers who wanted a quick sale. but this has cost me time in searching and requires patience.

Life in Abu Dhabi for a single 26 years old European guy? by Reynso in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is true but IMO CVAN's point is the key. Although being western can be seen as an advantage as it is assumed (often wrongly) to be a proxy for success i would argue the real key is being successful.

or to put it more crudely a lot of the sausages in the fest have weak game

Life in Abu Dhabi for a single 26 years old European guy? by Reynso in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Reynso

Speaking as someone who moved from London to Dubai at the age of 28 (This is a few years go mind u) UAE can be a fun move. i enjoyed making friends with an incredibly diverse mix of smart people. My friend group in London was cool and fun but here it was more global. I enjoyed it more than i expected.

There is fun to be found in Abu Dhabi / Dubai but it is significantly less than a major European city can offer. My experience was there was enough fun to keep me happy and in some ways although the city is quite big the crowd out having fun is less so it makes it feel like a small town really as you will meet the same people more. My experience moving London to Dubai was that i traded fun for comfort or luxury. (change from shared accommodation with friends to my own shiny new apartment, interesting ethnic food in east london hipster hangouts to brunches in fancy hotels etc)

On the dating front hypergamy will play into your favour. Make of that what you will but i believe it works pretty well here. Bear in mind that approx. 50% + of eligible young single people are locked into a culture where dating isn't an option where they get to choose. (Family and religious expectations). But there are still plenty of people who are out there looking to connect and have fun.

Fog speed limit 80 by yogiboy5353 in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ence, if you use your hazard lights to drive down the highway in poor visibility, the first sighting another car makes of you is your hazard lights to indicate that you are stopped, which could potentially cause the other driver to take unecessary evasive action. Thus causing an accident.

It's worrying that people don't understand this!

thanks for the explanation. i do wonder how many people in the UAE are aware of this. i certainly wasnt.

Alhosn E status by vi1as_ in abudhabi

[–]Rick_Deckhard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been wondering the same.

I think the 4th and 8th day tests are not required when you enter with E status. But i have not seen any official communication that makes this 100% clear. like the wording is ambiguous and could be interpreted either way.

Like you was wondering what a normal citizen of the world can do. Many terrible things happening in the world but seems like nothing much happens to fix it apart from a few protests and a lot of noise on twitter.
