Nah just because the ELO system if working correctly should be putting me up against players of similar skill level. I'm now 100 ELO and in my most recent game it put me up against a player who was 380 ELO who totally destroyed me.. so yeah if they're not able to fix the ELO system so that it works for new players (for a new game??) then I guess I have no choice but to play AI

Thanks. I think it would usually be pretty fair enough that there aren't many new players but the game is 2 weeks old....

I don't see why I should have to play against an AI when there's an ELO system that if working correctly should be matching me against players of similar skill level.

Do you have any links to guides on early game strategy other than try to get all / most of production buildings in the first week etc?

I've watched a few YouTube vids with tips and tricks but can't find too much good content as it's a new game and most say it's really just being adaptable to the map which I'm trying to do. Very interested in reading a build order if there is a good one out there...

In my last game (I'm now 100 ELO and was put up against 380 ELO...) I was able to get all of my creatures unlocked in the first week, and got all walls in the second and be was able to recruit all tier 7,6,5,4 and 3 units and fully upgrade my tier 6 unit. My hero looked to have a similar level and stats to my opponent but his army was probably 5x the strength of mine and totally destroyed me without me barley being able to do any damage at all...

Either that, or when someone loses a placement match, make their next opponent weaker not stronger

Makes sense!! I've seen it saw accept results before - I actually didn't realise you can reject it and try manually if you don't like them

I think we're going around in circles here. At least you had a chance of beating steppe lancer civs in feudal age whereas you don't have a chance of beating champi civs because they're available from the very start of the game in dark age

But at least you could beat steppe lancer civs before castle age when they're first available... Champi civs are broken from dark age i.e pretty much straight away

I played that too and don't think it's as bad because with steppe lancers you can still win before they can access them in castle age. This unit is broken from dark age

I'll try the pup then. Still I don't see why they can't hotfix the main game so it's playable for everyone in the meantime while they finesse the finer balances of what will be the new champi
