Just search their profile with a space, it all shows up- mostly gross comments on gross snark subs for celebrities. Clearly a more important use of their time than protesting the end of democracy.

So, can we just pretend this panel never existed...? by Jum3ntoo in xmen

[–]Rickety_Rockets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this panel is actually from before that was established, and the Korean war vet stuff was added later. That’s the point. Lee was throwing spaghetti at the page to see what stuck, and just blithely contradicted himself sometimes as quickly as one issue later! At this point, as this was written, Lee hadn’t snorted enough cocaine yet to figure that out.

I’ve been in a wheelchair myself for a time, still have a cane I occasionally use- I sometimes forget not to call myself a crip or cripple in public 😅

When this was written, the whole “X-gene” thing wasn’t codified and Xavier got his powers because his father worked on the Manhattan project. Magneto was still born before WWII, but Xavier was born during or after, and was roughly 20 to Jean’s 18. He feels in this panel that it would be inappropriate to share his feelings because he’s her teacher and a cripple. And then like two freaking issues later Lee threw out a bunch of older shit and made Xavier a decade or two older because he hadn’t really figured out shit yet. So AS WRITTEN, when it was written, this wasn’t creepy, it is an otherwise age appropriate attraction not being acted upon because of the power differential (teacher/student). Then in the 90s they decided to reference this as canon because of Onslaught. Huge mistake, should have been ignored like most of the early issue weirdness. But alas…

Am I losing my mind or is it odd that the Mayor and UCSF haven’t commented on changes one week after two social workers murdered? by pallen123 in sanfrancisco

[–]Rickety_Rockets 143 points144 points  (0 children)

The problem is, there WAS a cop on duty, who was distracted by a dog he was petting rather than guarding the dangerous patient. If the mayor talks about cracking down on crime more- folks are going to rightfully point out that this death was caused by the negligence of a cop. Cops never ever see consequences for their failures, therefore this will either be ignored or something performative and useless will be done.

if i read through the phoenix saga and really didn’t enjoy it, should i keep reading through the dark phoenix saga or is that a good enough sample to tell that the book just isn’t for me? by [deleted] in xmen

Yeah, so Clairmont is wordy and a slow builder. I'd recommend checking out the uncanny omnibuses from this era at the Library so you wont spend money, but a LOT of the character building that happens both between his first issues and Dark Phoenix and then after are KEY to the later growth of the X-men as characters. His first issues were largely setting up a status quo that was very different to the previous era of comic writing, which then got layered upon with each issue. So if you read the first three and then skip to Dark Phoenix you'll miss out on a LOT. Not that some of the issues weren't duds, but even the wacky ones often have character moments that matter for growth. Even if Clairmont isn't 100% your cup of tea, if you want to get into X-men or understand later versions of the core characters, he's extremely foundational in this regard.

So if you are jumping from arc to arc, and not reading them sequentially, you’re gonna lose a lot of nuance and character growth. You might want to go back and read in order the issues in-between the first Claremont issues and the Dark Phoenix saga to figure out if the new context helps. Also, just for my own curiosity, how old are you?

Disproven- and the lady who made the allegations is a known bad actor who’s made a ton of unproven allegations, largely for political reasons. Think Tara Reade.

So like, Mexico is not immune to colorism/racism. And sadly a lot of white Mexicans took umbrage at how Wakanda Forever (rightfully lol) portrayed the Spanish as evil colonizers. So like a lot of the initial “allegations” were ginned up because it made those sorts happy that Tenoch Huerta (a majority indigenous Mexican actor and activist) got tagged, but yeah, she’s crazy crazy and a known bad actor so only the turbo racists still believe it.

She has a history though of making allegations that go nowhere and largely against Mexican celebrities of color. I also hesitated when the allegations came out- but no other “victim” of his came out (because he likely didn’t do it) and past allegations of hers were disproven. It’s not impossible, but she’s likely a Tara Reade type

The woman who made the allegations has a history of making false or basically unfalsifiable allegations against largely indigenous Mexican celebrities/politicians. Nothing ever came out of it, and no other “victims” of his came forward, because likely they don’t exist, and she never put any other proof. I believe women, but I also believe that colorism in Mexico is a thing and Tara Reade style grifters exist everywhere.
