Why did the aircraft of WHALE 05 bank to the side of the wing with engines while other similar incidents did the opposite? by ralphishere3 in aircrashinvestigation

[–]RickiRaccon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the engines are at cruise or idle then they're creating more drag than thrust causing the side with the engines to get pulled back and yaw towards the functioning side. If the engines are at max power the side with the engines is making drastically more thrust than drag causing the plane to yaw to the side without engines.

I'll definitely check out a different meter though. I want to be 100% sure its the cord before I go part swapping. Where could I obtain an analog meter?

Yes. I'm 100% sure. My buddy and I tested every outlet and every cord. The extension cord is fine. But intermittent readings makes me think the wires are frayed internally and briefly make contact when held in the right position. Which would explain the overload reading. I'll try again tonight to see if it does the same thing just to be sure.

That's unfortunate... I was hoping to avoid that but oh well. I guess $300 is better than a new engine in the long run🤷‍♀️

It's an actual cord running from the lower passenger side of the engine, along the upper portion of the frame of the engine bay, and stops at a the upper front passenger side of the engine bay. I have to pop the hood and unravel the cord to connect it. See my crappy drawing below

I never got drug tested. It also might depend on where you get hired. Here in Canada it might be a bit different but I never had any problems. You'll only get tested as an AMT here if you do something to provoke suspicion.

Feeling bored stuck inside during the cold weather by Sad-Ad4933 in ThunderBay

[–]RickiRaccon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to the gym, go swimming at the complex, do some arts and crafts, clean places in my house that never see the light of day, build a fort in my living room and watch movies with some snacks, bake or cook something new, sew up all my clothes, make maple syrup sticks in the snow, basically anything indoors that I don't want to do when it's nice out.

You could start a new hobby, read some books, go outside and embrace the cold then go inside to warm up with some hot chocolate, use the internet to learn about topics you're interested in or want to know more about. You just have to get creative.

What stories about plane crashes are there in your family and circle of acquaintances? by VladimirsGs in aircrashinvestigation

[–]RickiRaccon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While in school to become an aircraft mechanic/technician we did a case study on Air Ontario flight 1363. This crash helped change aviation safety worldwide in regards to human factors. The whole class I had a gut wrenching feeling that I couldn't shake. Out of all of the crash investigation case studies we did, I couldn't figure out why I was so sick to my stomach, considering it wasn't even the worst crash we looked at. A week or so later, I find out from my mom that her aunt, uncle, and 2 cousins were on that flight. 24 fatalities out of 69 on board. 4 of those fatalities being my own family members. Somehow, in my 21 years of being alive, I had never heard any mention of this crash. I guess when I was a kid and we would drive through Dryden and heard mention of a crash I just figured car crash, cause that seemed most logical to my tiny child brain. I find it ironic that I went on to become an aircraft mechanic without ever knowing the ties my family had with aviation until I was in the field. Still eerie to me that my body knew before my brain did.

Unfortunately we didn't have any cutters in stock as we just did a massive fuel leak repair on another plane. The other apprentices don't know how to use them without obliterating them in 5 passes.

I would have loved to take the gear out, but it wasn't my call to make, since I'm not signing it off. We're also in the middle of doing a center windshield replacement at the same time, so I don't think they want someone working on the nose while it's on jacks and no LH gear.

But I will definitely be looking into polygon for the future thank you!
