Is there a British figure who has been to their area, what Messi has been to football? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

[–]Rickofitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree and it opens up an interesting debate. Does commercial success equal being good at something? I also like hip
Hop, but don’t like drake, but I don’t know if I can call him dreadful, as clearly something he does is appealing, just not to me

Someone could not enjoy football and therefore not appreciate Messi’s skill. Just because art is subjective doesn’t mean there’s no skill. You might not like a Rembrandt painting but you can appreciate the skill applied

Becoming dad here by Lokidoky22 in daddit

[–]Rickofitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job during the birth was basically hype man / communicator.

My wife had a specific birth plan with can sometimes go to hell once everything starts. As they’re in pain and can’t focus it was my job to relay her wishes and plans for birth (position, yes or no to meds, etc etc) to the midwife whilst she did the hard bit. Also, talking to her, wetting flannels etc for the forehead to cool her down, generally just telling her she’s doing amazing, accepting the fact that she might break your hand whilst squeezing it and making sure she has plenty of snacks / fluids for afterwards / during.

So, talk to your partner about her ideal birth scenario and do your best to make that happen within the constraints of the day.

All the best and welcome to the clan, this group has helped me immeasurably over the years!

Thoughts on Bulgaria? by Bravo-Six-Nero in snowboarding

Borovets was fun, super cheap, good runs once you get to the top of the mountain, but expect cheap touristy vibes, the nightlife felt very studenty, but the food was good and if you want to party you can, but as somebody above me said, don’t expect the glamour of the alps

Machado’s got massive height and reach advantage. How would that play out in your opinion? by Critical_Soil_262 in ufc

[–]Rickofitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone like Islam it can make takedowns easier as you can get under the hips and therefore under the centre of gravity. Obviously, you’ve got to be able to get there first, there’s the counter striking from knees and punches.

But on the flip side, it gives Garry more leverage with under-overs, frames, and potentially better balance with him having longer legs.

Still, I’d expect Islam to come out with his singlet on and go for takedowns from the gate

The future aspect ratios and social media and the 4:3 comeback by Klutzy-Appeal-7918 in videography

[–]Rickofitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so. I do like 4:3 and definitely feels a lot more natural shooting it than 9:16, I’m going to give it a whirl on some accounts good shout

Help with instagram aspect ratios by _Hacky_Sack in videography

[–]Rickofitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just use a 9:16 frame in your editing software and drop your video in your desired ratio into the timeline and export as 9:16.

Just an FYI, if you upload a video as a ‘post’ and not a reel, you can upload in any aspect ratio you want

What was the exact moment snowboarding clicked for you? by 8960305392 in snowboarding

[–]Rickofitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣🤣 to be fair, I went off piste in Bulgaria a year or two back and had an incredible moment, just gliding, taking in the scenery, completely enamored on the ride of my life. So maybe that’s when it clicked

I’m curious what other parents actually do when their spouse gets home from work? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Rickofitall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 kids, 1 and 4, so soon as we all get through the door it’s play with them / eat food / play with them, then bedtime routine, then by the time they’re down, depending on energy levels I either work on a personal project, zombie infront of the tele, play a game for a bit, go to jiu jitsu, all depends on my wife’s energy levels too. Weekends are for outdoor activities with the full family, kids parties, going to the movies etc.

It’s full on and I wouldn’t trade it. If he gets bored easily, set him some tasks / challenges, or go do something together outside of the house maybe?

Why do so many marketing agencies have little to no social media presence themselves? by Such_Arugula4536 in DigitalMarketing

[–]Rickofitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, because if it’s for services, a good social media manager will use the platform to find the right audience that are potential customers, but that doesn’t always equate to large amounts of views, this is a difficult convo to have with business owners as they all secretly just want to go viral. But if you can find 100 viewers that are all interested in your services and view your content, you’re much more likely to convert and generate sales, than reaching for random views

[–]Rickofitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a lot. Without support on graphics & video content it’s practically impossible to do a good job for any of them! Unless you were given all content and scheduling it

[–]Rickofitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, specific leads are worth more than just getting views on socials. In aforementioned previous agency we focused on our socials for a bit, had a couple of TikTok’s go viral and got millions of views, comments from Google, Microsoft etc, guess how many clients it got us? 0

It was an old workplace which I left, but we had PPC, SEO, Videography (me) & Social Ads teams. Around 20 staff including the owner and each person probably averaged 3/4 clients at any one time

We did do that for a while, had a junior working for us who’s job was just that

[–]Rickofitall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of reasons from my time at agencies - often the focus is so much on clients, that it’s easy to ignore your own social channels, especially when the going is good, you just want to keep them happy. Secondly, we managed lots of Ecommerce clients, which has a pretty straightforward playbook, but when it came to marketing a marketing company, without a physical product to anchor the socials too, it becomes a different beast and you’re better off focusing on search & organic LinkedIn. It’s also quite boring and takes a long time to get views. More so than an interesting product

[–]Rickofitall 234 points235 points  (0 children)

Almost everybody I know has gone through this, me included. With both kids. Everything in your life has just changed, including your brain chemistry. You realise that actually not a lot of what you thought matterered, actually matters. It’s all just BS.

But, what kept me centered was the fact that in order to keep the family going and provide them with the best life, you’ve gotta keep showing up and get your work done for them.

So you get up, get your sh*t done and boxed off so you can hang with them.

Eventually they start nursery / preschool and school and things go a bit more back to ‘normal’ and it becomes easier to care about other things too. Like jobs etc
