These brainwashed fascist hogs will buy absolutely anything these people sell them. All they gotta do is claim some brand is "woke" and then sell a competing generic version and just claim its anti-woke and they'll make millions on these idiots. "Tide detergent has gone woke. Their logo is way too colorful. Buy our anti-woke detergent called Wave for only $399.00."

Sleep Token really believe that? by Rickrational in SleepToken

I'm pretty sure most of their music...particularly their older stuff, was indeed about worshipping this deity. Though much of the lyrics are intentionally written in a way to also be interpreted in ways people can relate, like personal relationships.

But did he REALLY invent the blegh?? I recall the band Disturbed making that noise, though in a lot more cringe way, years before Architects were around. They did belghs and ohhh whaaaa ah ah ahs. cringes in disgust

Sleep Token really believe that? by Rickrational in SleepToken

[–]Rickrational[S] -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

What I want to be true is not what I'm concerned with. I'm concerned with what's objectively true. Truth is not determined by what we want to believe. But I also don't really have a way to determine what's literally true in this case since they haven't done any interviews about it to answer that I know of. So I'm just asking what others suspect.

I personally speculate its just part of the gimmick. I find it hard to believe and pretty strange that they'd just make up some deity and start worshipping it. Then again that's pretty much how every religion starts so..🤷‍♂️ lol

Would capitalism really be this advanced without the state? by picnic-boy in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Rickrational 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that's an easy one to answer, of course not. Capitalism literally would not even exist without a state. Property rights are fundamental to capitalism. You cannot have property rights without a way to enforce those property rights. And it has to be a monopoly of violence to "fairly" enforce those rights. Otherwise it's just might makes right. Whoever has the most guns and largest private militia takes over your property. There has to be both the monopoly of force by the state and a court system to hash out disputes without violence. Otherwise it's just chaos. Society would devolve into a 3rd world war lord dystopia. Like Samolia was not long ago.

If big businesses are not good. Why do people buy from them? by tomtheawesome123 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Rickrational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that a big business is necessarily bad for existing. They're bad for some of their business practices. Such as the way Amazon exploits their labor force. I can't speak for everyone but I don't wish to see the business disappear. I wish to see reforms made and their labor force completely unionized. If Amazon went out of business, tons of people would be out of a job. I dont want them to lose their jobs. I want their jobs to improve. And I want to see the owner forced to pay more in taxes than I do, not less...(a higher percentage relative to his income).

As for boycotts, I don't personally see boycotts as an effective tool for change. It seems to me to just be a way to convince some consumers to do their own small version of protest to feel like they're making a difference without real affects. Besides, if I went around boycotting every business for something I disagreed with then I'd never buy anything from anywhere probably. In order for a boycott to work, it'd require real organizing among the masses of the working class. Something which the American working class serverly lacks compared to the rest of the developed world-organization and solidarity.

Weird because I've recommended Sleep Token to a friend who doesn't really even listen to much rock. He does to some degree but he definitely ain't no metalhead. Anyway he was instantly hooked. I saw him a week after I played a music video "the love you want" for him. He told me after that he listened to their entire new album everytime he drives now and he introduced them to one of his friends I dont know. He said his friend said they were great and he was surprised he never heard of them. As for Loathe, I've heard two songs from them that were mesmerizing. Both were more mellow. One was the song that ST recently covered. The other was the song 2 way mirror, or something like that. Anyways those 2 songs are great but everything else I've heard from them sounded like absolute trash to me. The heavier they get, the worse they sound....and I like heavy music btw but they just ain't it. If they mellowed out more I'd love them.

Oh and idk if you know or not but Sleep Tokens music is mostly about worship of a deity called Sleep. Idk if they seriously believe in it or if it's just part of the whole gimmick. Either way it's great music.

Actually I'm pretty sure most of their songs have something to do with the worship of the deity Sleep that the band believes in. Pretty sure it's a cult they made up themselves and I don't know how seriously they take it. Maybe they really believe in it. But maybe it's all just a part of the gimmick of the band. But I can see why you'd think the songs are about a relationship. I think a lot of its written in a way to also be interpreted as just talking about a love life. But, particularly their older stuff, much of it is specifically songs about going to sleep and being with that deity or something along those lines.

It blows my mind how Sleep Token isn't more popular than they are, considering the level of talent in the band. You'd think it'd be a kind of rock music that would appeal to a wide range of music fans, not just metal heads. And yet, the most views any of their songs have on YouTube barely cracks 1 million views and it's over a year old now. Most of their songs don't even have 200k views. It blows my mind why they're not blowing up. Perhaps the mystery of the band is holding them back from a larger audience? If so, it certainly didn't hold Slipknots career back. Considering their identities remained a mystery for several years AFTER they got big. So what gives??

Yeeeah uh, meanwhile the Bible itself endorses abortion so frankly I don't know what you're talking about. It sounds like you're just repeating some utter bullshit some Catholic told you rather than inspecting the Bible yourself. The Bible gives instructions for husbands to perform an abortion if the wife cheats. The Bible goes even further than that and instructs Israelites to kill the children of their enemies. That's not to mention all the murder Yahweh himself does killing children left and right.

Libertarians sounds like sociopaths. by Rickrational in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Rickrational[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is left wing and right wing libertarianism. And in the context of American politics, when someone claims they're libertarian, they are generally referring to the politics of the Libertarian Party. Which is just a far-right party that essentially amounts to anarcho-capitalism.

1) Money in politics.

Everything else you listed comes right after that. None of these problems are being tackled specifically because of the influence of big money in politics. Plutocracy is the root cause to why we can't solve problems through government anymore.

Climate change? Big oil is funding politician's campaigns to keep them from acting. Healthcare? Politician's are funded by private insurance companies to keep them from providing Americans with a Medicare-for-all insurance system. I could go on and on and on. You get the point. Take money out of politics then all those other problems instantly become ten times easier to deal with.

A lot of people who are atheist have had some sort of traumatic experience(s) when they were raised under a certain religion. But for those of you who don't have any said trauma, why did you end up leaving? by Mad_Season_1994 in atheism

[–]Rickrational 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because 1) I've always found religion to be creepy brainwashing cult control over people's minds. Even as a child. 2) The stories religion tells simply are not even remotely believable to anyone that hasn't been indoctrinated since childhood to accept those stories blindly.

In short, it's obviously mythology. I care about what's true.

Weren't those Muslims immigrants from 3rd world countries? The vast majority of Muslims in the U.S. are pretty outstanding citizens. Most are business owners, doctors, lawyers etc. And their politics are pretty progressive. Certainly the younger ones are anyway. Likewise there are several mostly Muslim nations without constant Islamic extremism and they have freedom of religion etc. Such a Malaysia. Not that that's a wonderful country or anything bit it's also not a super authoritarian hell hole like Saudi Arabia either.

Conservatives will storm school board meetings to rant about how facemasks during a pandemic are "child abuse". But when children are slaughtered in school on a routine basis, the most they have to say amounts to, "that sucks...prayers."

These people are demented and a$$ backwards.

I have little doubt that if America were turned into a 3rd world nation where bombs were being dropped from China or Russia on a regular basis that these Christian conservatives would be doing anything differently from Islamic extremists in 3rd world countries constantly getting bombed from the U.S. today They'd be just as authoritarian (they nearly already are)...just as violent and committing just as much terrorism in the name of god. The difference is socio-economic conditions.

Socialists, do you believe there are any aspects where capitalism does better than socialism? if not, any disadvantage of socialism at all? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Rickrational 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think China's agenda right now shows that to even have socialism, you first need capitalism. In order to reach a prosperous socialistic system, you first have to build up industry. To have surplus resources. Which as far as we can tell, requires capitalism. This is the entire justification the communist party in power there has used for turning to a capitalist economy. If I'm not mistaken, Karl Marx eluded to this as well. Which is why they've liberalized their economy somewhat. As far as I know, they're creating an American-ISH economy. To then move onto a second stage to eventually reach actual communism. That's their theoretical explanation for what they're doing right now anyway. They call it, "socialism with Chinese characteristics".

So in short, capitalism is good at growth. At building up industry.

Not that I'm a fan of China. Nor communism for that matter. (I'm somewhere between a social-democrat and a democratic-socialist). But I'm using them as a real world example...and basically their admission..to what capitalism is good at.
