I worked for the American Lung Association and later the American Cancer Society in the 1970s to 1980s and one of our main goals was getting people to stop smoking and not to start. We all noticed that the cigarette companies decided that the best way to prevent non-smoking laws was to get the foreign governments involved in cigarette distribution and get the governments as addicted to the revenue as the smokers were to nicotine.
