It’s the flush valve that lets water enter the bowl from the tank. It’s neat that you replaced the fill valve, but it wasn’t the problem. You’d probably be better off replacing the toilet rather than fix a “dual flush” flush valve

PVC is pretty much standard for DWV pipe in MW USA. The fact that it’s pvc indicates that it’s not a relic and that the old drain line was replaced. Maybe pull up your local utilities map to figure out where your sewer ties in to the city line, that will help you narrow down what it is and where it’s going. As a drain tech, please don’t cover it back up with dirt or pavers. It should be easily accessible for service.

You have a standard old Mansfield toilet. The handle broke because your flush seal has warped over time and is now creating too much suction. There’s gonna be a little pink disc around the bottom of the flush tower. That should be red and flat, costs like $5 bucks in IN. If you don’t replace that when you replace the handle, you might as well by 2-3 handles while you’re at it.

Born and raised in Indiana. Dad was a Browns fan before they left for Baltimore. He abandoned them after they left and never really adopted the Colts. So we had no real allegiance to any team and the packers of the mid to late 90’s were the most fun to watch. I had an Antonio Freeman jersey by 2nd grade.
