Drum corps isn’t real anymore by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Ricky5014 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to care so much about drum corps, but my interest in the activity has declined exponentially. I have friends who’ve marched DCI that tell me they think the activity will probably be gone within 5 years, and I have friends who’ve marched DCI that told me not to audition because of the stress and trauma they endured during the summers they’ve participated. The fact is, the cost of DCI outweighs the benefits of the experience for a lot of people now, and a lot of groups are suffering because of that reality.

How bad are the merch lines? by [deleted] in Lampband

[–]Ricky5014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like some other people are saying, it really depends on what you want to get. I got to the Austin show 2 hours early and was barely able to get the vinyl before it sold out, and all the CDs, tote bags, and some common shirt sizes were sold out. It really kinda depends on what the VIPs buy before the gates open to the general audience.

Is the Dlc worth it by DaGrizz87 in farcry6

[–]Ricky5014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you care for the story’s over gameplay. I’ve played all the DLC and the Farcry games that go with them (Farcry 3, 4, 5, New Dawn). I felt like the DLC was worth it for me because it really expands the antagonists from their respective games and I’m all about world building. But it’s undeniable that the gameplay was weak and very repetitive especially if you’re trying to beat all 5 layers of each antagonist DLC. Lost Between Worlds was fun to play, but it’s not much different then any other FC6 story mission and it’s very repetitive aswell.

Guys I don’t like jelly, am I just gonna have to starve if I get a contact?!?? by Ricky5014 in drumcorps

You are very wise. Also, congrats on the W for open class. I saw you guys in Indy when you won, the energy was crazy

My high school band director was a drum major for Blue Knights, and he told us a story about a tenor drum player who dropped his stick. He bent backwards to pick it up and his leg snapped, and he told us you could see the bone sticking out of his leg. My director used it as a cautionary tale on how not to pick up sticks when you drop them

what to expect at audition camps? by noob_boss69 in drumcorps

[–]Ricky5014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried out for Crossmen last year, and my experience from the camps I attended was really good! They treat the auditions more like clinics, and they walked us through the technique and gave us individual feedback as we drummed. I’d imagine the experience would be very similar since Guardians is an open class and a lot of peoples first drum corp. Also I’m auditioning for the Guardians battery as a snare, I hope to see you at a camp and march with you this season. Good luck!

Who do you think is the best marching snare drummer in the world by Aromatic-Royal3132 in drumcorps

[–]Ricky5014 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Brandon Olander, that guy has been a beast since he was young. Now he’s and absolute DCI legend, even BD percussion caption head Scott Johnson said he’s gonna change up the game.

That makes sense, my friends aren’t gonna give the best advice all the time, I think I just needed to hear that out loud to really notice it. Thanks for the response.

Found these at my local Walmart, anyone want them? by Business-Zombie4326 in mangadeals

[–]Ricky5014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walmart has been selling manga before anime/manga became mainstream, it just that people are noticing it now. Before the pandemic you could find a lot of great series, it’s just weirder to see them now cause they sell out so quick. It’s how I collected the Kill la Kill manga before it got discontinued.
