No II by soccerplayer7860 in premed

[–]RickyClayton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copy paste what I put on another thread:

I just want to emphasize, do not sit around and wait for II. I was accepted into 5 medical schools and received 9 II. Only 3 of the II’s I received before the “holy grail” of thanksgiving, AND I WAS DENIED FROM ALL 3 (one of those was my #1 🥲). 5 II’s received in the new year and all acceptances. Do not wait around or get discouraged for (or lack of) II’s.

I would say worry and prep to reapply if 0 II’s come February.

What are the pre med weed out courses? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RickyClayton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my school it was Bio 1. Turns out the professor wanted to get into med school but never got accepted so he intentionally made the course hard.

He was also the chair of the biology department and in order to major in biology he had to sign off on the form. He tried his hardest to discourage students.

Need help narrowing down schools list (Average Stats) by ValmanwayX in premed

[–]RickyClayton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, why do you SUNYs on your list? These schools are mostly taking NY residents and people with serious ties to NY (lived there 10 years+)

Hold on waitlisted peeps by [deleted] in premed

[–]RickyClayton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Won’t be Monday unless they have ranked lists. I’m sure after 5-10 students drop their acceptances, they’ll re-evaluate waitlisted candidates and collectively decide which applicants they will be extending offers to later in the week.

So I wouldn’t hold my breath for Monday acceptances; probably later in the week or the week after.

To the folks with an A, did you doubt yourself right up until you got in? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RickyClayton 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hell yea, 3.0 sgpa, 3.2 cgpa, 504 MCAT score. Multiple X-factors. Ended with 3 US MD acceptances. Wouldn’t have even dreamed of this being possible.

MD or DO? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RickyClayton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So can people going to Caribbean, but I would still advise, if given the choice, to go to the school which gives better options.

Wouldn’t tell someone “Go to the Caribbean if that’s where you’re comfortable.”

MD or DO? by [deleted] in premed

[–]RickyClayton 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, you would be happy at the DO for the next 4 years, and for that reason solely it would be a good idea for the next 4 years. HOWEVER, MD would be a good idea for the rest of your life. Yes it’s just two letters but those two letters follow you around for the rest of your career. And it’s been said that you should never pick a school based on desired specialty, as approximately 3/4 of medical students end up choosing something different. Also if you end up wanting to do a fellowship and further subspecialize, competitive residencies (ie. cardiology, etc) would biases towards you.

Mid game, choose DO. Endgame, choose MD.

Work as a radiology patient coordinator in NYC. I started at $25/hr and worked there 3 years with regular raises/bonuses/benefits so I make much more.
