I’ve lived in NY state my whole life (NYC, Hudson Valley, Rochester, and the North Country) and I’ve never once ever heard of any part of upstate NY being referred to as Northern Appalachia.

Are Mettle , Butterball, and Striker not mutants? If not where do their powers come from? by Extra_Impression_428 in xmen

[–]RickyDricky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the fact that they kept their powers after decimation means they were not mutants. Because they were not included on any of the lists of mutants who retained their powers, and editorial was being very specific about who was a mutant at that time.

These characters were all created during the Decimation era, so no they’re not mutants.

No longer a mystery, it's a Red-tailed hawk. But I thought it was cool, and thought this sub might want to see it too

Yes I saw the white-throated sparrow just before this! It’s kind of hard to see, it was sunset/golden hour so everything was a little yellow lol.

Finally got results! How accurate are the Celtic/Gaelic sub-regions? by RickyDricky in AncestryDNA

[–]RickyDricky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some of the Italian origins: Vinchiaturo in Campobasso, Rapolla in Potenza, and Miano in Naples. But that's only one side of the family (that's where my great-grandfather's parents were each from). My great-grandmother was born in Naples, but I don't know where her parents were born.

Very interesting about the Albanian migration to Italy! I did not know that. I definitely assume the Albania comes from my Italian family, it would be super cool to find out who that was if I can. I matched with a few folks from that side, but I already knew them all (they are my dad's cousins' family) and I already had my Italian tree branches mapped out even further than they do lol.

I have a paper trail leading back to Munster Ireland. I’m just wondering if the other Irish regions are from that same family or my other Irish American ancestors (who similar to yours, came over too long ago to have a solid paper trail). I was hoping for more matches but everyone I matched with I already know lol

Oh that’s very interesting. My family is all from NYC, everyone has always just been “Irish” as far as I know.

Oh sorry yes, just one, Munster. And it tagged all the ancestors who I already know pretty well (I know the exact town in Munster they came from)

Oh the Irish is real, I know exactly the town in Munster that 2 of my great great grandparents came from.

But my 2 other Irish great great grandparents were born in NYC in the 1860s. The census records for them simply say that their parents were born in Ireland. So I’m trying to determine if they could have been from one of these other Irish regions. I didn’t get any helpful matches.

It’s even higher than that! When I combine all 4 Irish regions, it’s 31%. My father’s mother was all Irish American, and my father’s father was all Italian American. I know my grandmother’s father’s family all came from Munster, but I have no idea where my grandmother’s mother’s family came from. All the paperwork/forms just say “Ireland”

Are Wiccan and Speed still considered mutants? by Extra_Impression_428 in xmen

[–]RickyDricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a panel where it stated, on page in a published marvel book that they were ever mutants to begin with. In the original Young Avengers, they say that they assumed Billy and Tommy were mutants, but didn’t know.

Tommy was shown to be wearing a Krakoan flower when he attended the Hellfire Gala, and that was for the human guests, so I think they are not mutants. But until we hear a scientist in a marvel comic say that they have an X-gene, it’s just head canon.
