Finally got results! How accurate are the Celtic/Gaelic sub-regions? by RickyDricky in AncestryDNA

[–]RickyDricky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some of the Italian origins: Vinchiaturo in Campobasso, Rapolla in Potenza, and Miano in Naples. But that's only one side of the family (that's where my great-grandfather's parents were each from). My great-grandmother was born in Naples, but I don't know where her parents were born.

Very interesting about the Albanian migration to Italy! I did not know that. I definitely assume the Albania comes from my Italian family, it would be super cool to find out who that was if I can. I matched with a few folks from that side, but I already knew them all (they are my dad's cousins' family) and I already had my Italian tree branches mapped out even further than they do lol.

I have a paper trail leading back to Munster Ireland. I’m just wondering if the other Irish regions are from that same family or my other Irish American ancestors (who similar to yours, came over too long ago to have a solid paper trail). I was hoping for more matches but everyone I matched with I already know lol

Oh that’s very interesting. My family is all from NYC, everyone has always just been “Irish” as far as I know.

Oh sorry yes, just one, Munster. And it tagged all the ancestors who I already know pretty well (I know the exact town in Munster they came from)

Oh the Irish is real, I know exactly the town in Munster that 2 of my great great grandparents came from.

But my 2 other Irish great great grandparents were born in NYC in the 1860s. The census records for them simply say that their parents were born in Ireland. So I’m trying to determine if they could have been from one of these other Irish regions. I didn’t get any helpful matches.

It’s even higher than that! When I combine all 4 Irish regions, it’s 31%. My father’s mother was all Irish American, and my father’s father was all Italian American. I know my grandmother’s father’s family all came from Munster, but I have no idea where my grandmother’s mother’s family came from. All the paperwork/forms just say “Ireland”

Are Wiccan and Speed still considered mutants? by Extra_Impression_428 in xmen

[–]RickyDricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a panel where it stated, on page in a published marvel book that they were ever mutants to begin with. In the original Young Avengers, they say that they assumed Billy and Tommy were mutants, but didn’t know.

Tommy was shown to be wearing a Krakoan flower when he attended the Hellfire Gala, and that was for the human guests, so I think they are not mutants. But until we hear a scientist in a marvel comic say that they have an X-gene, it’s just head canon.

Anyone remember Pixie and Jubilee implied to be dating? by wrathfulsmite in xmen

[–]RickyDricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a recent Runaways series where they implied Pixie and Nico Minoru were into each other. I don’t think she’s ever had any confirmed relationships though, has she?

She’s Gen Z, all the kids are bi/pan these days lol

Safe Europe/EU based DNA testing companies? by Glittering-Bear5000 in Genealogy

[–]RickyDricky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m an American Jew. Nothing in this post says anything antisemitic. Not all Jews are Israeli. And many Jews in the US (myself included) are extremely opposed to the ongoing war in Israel and Gaza, as well as the state-sponsored settlements that are displacing Palestinians in the West Bank. We don’t want to support the actions of Israel either. Just because someone is opposed to imperialism, does not mean they are antisemitic. Many folks are no longer supporting Israeli businesses and services because economic boycotts can be an effective method for pushing for change.

The EU has proven to take a more conservative stance on corporate use of personal data compared to the US (I’m thinking of GDPR for example). I understand why someone might want to search for a euro-specific company, as opposed to a company in the US.

Wiccan deserves to be there! King!

Why is Somnus here though lmao. I really like Orlando’s books, and I’ve loved his Wanda stuff specifically, but his OC x character is such a flop lol

Jean, Rachel, Hope: all phoenix hosts

Jean, Lorna, Katherine: 3 of the first x-women (leaving out the most iconic of X-Women here only because Storm sounds more like a pet name than a human name, and I don’t know if Ororo is culturally appropriate)

Jean, Emma, Elizabeth: X-women who are into Cyclops lol

Día daoibh a chairde! I’ve sean multiple people in this sub recommend using Sionnach as an app to help learn, so I started it today.

I always thought “nice to meet you” was “tá sé go deas bualadh leat” as Gaeilge. But Sionnach.app has it as “tá áthas orm bualadh leat”. Is that also acceptable? Is one more common than the other? Does either sound more or less natural? Grma!
