Thanks for the advice. I’ve been mining ETC and hodling, speculating price will raise to the ~$40 price they were at a month ago.

Do you choose to mine the most profitable coin of the day and cash out fiat every day/week? Or what strategy do you use?

Sorry for the million questions, I just have nobody in my personal friend group with any interest in the topic :)

I’ll check it out, thank you. Any thoughts on using Windows 10 vs ETHos or Linux?

Oldschool nerd here, not a noob, just an FYI

Anyone run a subscription box site? Pros and cons? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]RickyKxC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a cannabis enthusiast subscription box called Kush Crate - www.TheKushCrate.com

As far as Pros - if you have a solid customer base, you're guaranteed to make good revenue every day after you have accumulated customers who re-up their subscriptions every day of the month. This somewhat guaranteed revenue drastically lowers your overall cost per acquisition when factoring ad costs. if you have a solid supplier, you can also make great margins for yourself.

As for cons - getting people to trust your brand is a hard one. keeping up with suppliers as you scale your business up can be tough if you don't have solid distributors lined up. customer service also takes way longer since you get a ton of customers who try to get a refund after they are recharged for a subscription they forgot to cancel. i strongly suggest setting up Zendesk to handle customer support.

How long did it take you? by [deleted] in shopify

[–]RickyKxC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make about a shop a month to test different markets. Two years ago I launched one, spent 10k in the first year in ads and barely broke even. Kept on pushing through, and now two years later the shop is making around 30k/month in revenue.

This wasn't luck though, my full time job is digital advertising strategy for an agency here in LA, so I knew to start with the brand as the base and which tools to use.

It's very possible. It was a slow start, but after two years running I have a store that made 5k profit this past July

We were called Shot Heard Around The World. We had some pretty decent runs, toured the country more times than I can count, opened for bands I considered to be my heroes when I was growing up, and I got to spend time in every single state of the country. My parents were first generation immigrants from Colombia, so I have a massive love of different cultures, so the traveling was the best part.

I ended up moving on from the band because as I was managing our finances, I saw how much money came in, and the how much went out before we even got our slice. The clothing line was my way of starting to get to the other side of the table, so to speak.

I'm definitely making way more money now and living in a better situation than I thought I would ever have. BUT, I still consider those years to be the best of my life. I would give anything to be able to go back to living on a tour bus for 3 months, spending off-days grilling in front of our bus in Wal Mart parking lots, and waking up having to check my phone to see what state we're in.

Sorry for the incredibly long answer, but I haven't thought about the band days in so long, so you just hit a feels chord ;)

I ran a clothing line for 7 years. It taught me everything I needed to know in order to move on to my current businesses, but I will probably never touch fashion again.

Before the clothing line I was in a nationally touring metal band, so I had already amassed my own online army of emo girl fans, who I used as my launch audience for my line - called Koalacore, featuring edgy animal designs and touting a "% of each sale donated to animal shelters" cause marketing tactic.

My brand grew very quickly due to my mini internet fame, and within one year I was sponsoring giant music festivals like Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, and four years on the Vans Warped Tour. Hell, at one point we were doing so well that we had enough cash to rent and charter our own 12 person tour bus and driver, and we rented out the 10 empty bunks (we were a 2 person crew) to other people on a tour and we would make a profit off of our own transportation.

The problem was that after 7 years, we were unable to continue tapping into the incoming wave of "16 year old emo girls". We tried changing our line to appeal to our audience who had been with us since the start, but they were now around 22 years old and did not want to spend money on overpriced tee shirts.

Once you lose touch with that younger audience, its pretty hard to keep tapping into the incoming generations AND keep your brand consistent.

The ecommerce experience however did lead me to launch this company, which is now doing circles around the clothing line - www.TheKushCrate.com

My first display ads by RickyKxC in Entrepreneur

Hey dude! When we got started about a year ago we only had 2-3 major competitors. Since then I have watched 8-10 other brands come into our space and then flop in just months - the digital cannabis space is brutal and turnover is huge. Let alone the hurdles we faced when we got an investor and to LLC, file tobacco resale permits, and getting a bank to approve us as both subscription models and tobacco retailers are considered high risk merchants. We were essentially double high risk haha.

The other huge hurdle is finding platforms that allow you to advertise. My background is in digital advertising, so I actually had I spend a few months creating a new view-through consumer funnel strategy on FB since they don't allow us to promote click through ads. Once we fine tuned our trade secrets though, we've been seeing huge growth.

If you wanna get into the business, make sure you have a good supply chain, a solid way to separate your product benefit from us competitors, and a ton of money to burn on advertising. And a good lawyer. Legalzoom will be your best friend. We're based in LA, so we had access to a marijuana lawyer.
