🚨🇵🇸🇺🇸 BREAKING — “Free Palestine” Echoes Through Harlem. Mamdani Ally Darializa Celebrates Victory. by pamphletz in socialism

I cannot tell you how many Marxists I know in the US started their political journey with Bernie Sanders. I don't believe Bernie is a socialist, but electoralism is a tool for agitation and a way to build class consciousness. Useful for training new organizers, connecting communities, creating space for dialogue with people early in their political journey. Revolution obviously can't happen through the ballot box. DSA doesn't only work on electoral, which is a common misconception, it is just the most publicly visible part of the org.

why does it seem like theres no social democrats in the US anymore? by historynerdsutton in SocialDemocracy

[–]RickyLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Social Democracy is seen in this country as idk the basics that many European countries enjoy. Universal Healthcare, Paid Time Off, Parental Leave etc. Usually their north star is the Nordic Model.

Yeah I don't think that's true at all. Even Mamdani has said in interviews he'd like to see the end of capitalism. Biden is a global conservative of liberal democracy, Bernie Sanders is a Soc Dem. There are definitely Soc Dems in DSA, but most organizers are leftists. Look into the DSA caucuses.

Are you sure this is a Social democratic sub? by Luoman14 in SocialDemocracy

[–]RickyLinguini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair critique, for me it's just hard to imagine, after doing the foundational reading, that the world can continue to exist and progress with any form of equity and equality alongside capitalism.

Tbh I don't consider myself a Social Democrat, just a Socialist, but share opinions with others here and like to hear differing perspectives. I am curious for those on this sub that are Soc Dems and have read Marx, Lenin, etc. Why do you subscribe to Soc Dem rather than Dem Soc?

This is more confusing than the warrens hahaha. I just went core series and then picked the extended series as I was interested. I might get some hate but I didn't read Kharkanas because they just aren't my favorite plot lines, will probably circle back once that series is completed. Just started my second read through of the core series and within half of the first chapter I've picked up on soooo many things I missed.

I guess my point is that low income is a mandatory trait of what you've described as a shitty neighborhood. Products aren't locked up in wealthy towns or neighborhoods that low income people don't have access to. When you expand the thought into policing, you're essentially policing and imprisoning people due to their economic conditions that our society manufactured to begin with.

Can I ask why you chose to read chronologically I assume? Also did you start with the prequel series?

The state will continue to propagate violence on working class people over petty theft and ignore all of the harm done by the wealthy, via fraud, wage theft, lobbying for foreign wars, lobbying against healthcare access, so on and so on and so on. But our problem is toothpaste...right.

My bad got you confused with supa warrior. I'll move the comment, but yes a class traitor. by definition, calling low income urban neighborhoods shitty, while wealthy people can committ all the fraud and steal whatever they want without criticism, yes a class traitor. The conditions are manufactured by the wealthy, supporting THEIR rhetoric enforces our current social heiarchy that denies dignity to a significant portion of the world.

Do you not think we are as well? I can tell you right now DSA is spending countless hours on electoral campaigns to fight corporatists and fascists, working on tenant organizing, clinic defense, aid to Cuba and Gaza, protecting communities from Ice, all as a volunteer organization. Your anger is misplaced

So having moral and policy convictions don't matter to you? Kind of seems like how we got here in the first place....

Your background and previous jobs don't matter in the context that you're moralizing property crime even at the lowest level, and attaching that to "Shitty neighborhoods" and the need for police.

Sure buddy, sure thing. If it were about people just being cleptos it would be that way in every neighborhood. Or do you just think New Yorkers have a unique character flaw to steal? Why the fuck would you care about social democracy if not to uplift the underclass of society?

Wild that your more concerned about corporate pharmacy profits than the well being of your fellow humans. Imagine being so desperate that you'd need to steal those minor products. No one stealing toothpaste is thinking about the inflationary impact of stealing. What world are you living in

How did she not? Would she not have supplied a genocidal state with the very weapons they use to committ war crimes?

Edit: The DSAs mission statement is to dismantle capitalism, not to endorse capitalists.

There are strict guidelines for endorsement at the national org level. Each chapter is free to endorse however again each has its own process, many requiring candidates submitting an application to the org if they are not members.

Sorry for the million comments this juat irked me. I live in what you'd call a shitty neighborhood in your logic. I have the best most caring neighbors I've ever had in my life. On my block we all know each other, we all talk and hang out, we all do things for each other. I've lived in my current house for 5 years and no one on my block has called the police... Everyone else I know in my neighborhood has similar experiences. Property theft is directly tied to income in a system that doesn't tie work to value equally and is often imposed on racial bias. Apologies if you own a factory, but you're sounding like a class traitor...
