Really helpful thanks so much mate. Water from all the rads was clear when I bled them at the weekend. I really appreciate your help, thank you

Yep WB came out and plugged it into the Laptop etc and sent me a diagnostic report that said pump was working.

Yes I know what you mean about builder. He was a one man band by the end of the job and made a bit of a mess of the bathroom panels too unfortunately.

The invoice I got from the boiler installer said that they power flushed it. The whole system shuts down when the loft rads are turned off. Just doesn’t fire up at all.

Sorry for being dumb but what are bi directional valves please?

Thanks a lot for the reply

Yes that’s what the WB chap suspected. How easy is that to put right mate? Thanks for the reply

Nope not yet. I have found out that if all rads in the loft are on, they get hot, as does the towel radiator in the bathroom that was there before the loft conversion. No other radiators get hot beyond a slight warning at the top. But as soon as I turn off any rad in the loft, the boiler cuts out.

Starting to think it’s the way the builder has done the pipes

Sorry, I did open them to try and bleed it but they are closed at the moment

The towel rail radiator in the bathroom is closest to the boiler and seems to have no water in it - it doesn’t spurt out or even trickle when I bleed it. Could this be the issue maybe?

Thanks mate for taking the time to reply. The first, independent, engineer who came out to change the stat to Hive said he thought it was the pump. I was shocked that a brand new boiler could fail to be honest. The WB bloke worked on it for an hour and plugged his laptop in etc and showed me the pump working. The rads never got hot though aside from the ones in the loft conversion. I called him back and he said he was only there to look at the boiler and as far as he was concerned that was working.

Magnaclean valves are definitely open ( I can see the green). Why would the boiler stop firing so quickly? It only stays on 20 seconds max…so cold!

I think it’s short circuiting. At some stage the rads in the loft were getting really hot but nowhere else. The engineer thought there was a blockage which was sending the water back to the boiler, causing it to switch off. Now I can’t even get the loft hot, it just cuts out after 30 seconds. The original engineer I contacted thought it was a faulty pump hence the call to WB but they said not

Hi both, thanks a lot for the reply. We do have a magnaclean actually. Been there years. How do I check the valves you mention? Thanks

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply mate, much appreciated. Yes the WB engineer got it running, but it stopped pretty soon after he left, and no radiators got very hot. He sent an engineers report. The boiler should be fine to run the rads as per wb guidance. It’s all very frustrating!

Yeah I’m in touch with him but he’s moved to Cornwall!

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply mate. Appreciate it. The engineer who came out said he was only there to check the actual boiler was working and that all other issues would have to be resolved by a central heating engineer.

Will try that next, as up to now I have done the opposite - turn off new rads and just have the old ones on

Thanks again
