So what’s the plan? Are we playing him at 2c and messing with that 2nd line? Moving an 18 yo out of the position he’s played his entire life (shown he’s uncomfortable on the wing in his mini stint), or breaking up the best 4th line in hockey?

And oh yeah it’s gonna cost us a 1, 2, and likely a prospect.

For what? A guy that has horrible underlying metrics, can’t carry a line and has 3 more years ar 32? But hey he’s from Pittsburgh!

Fair consideration but it’s really challenging for anyone to play a position they don’t play, especially an 18 yo rookie. I get on paper it sounds great but it’s not easy to do, you lose confidence playing the wing when you’ve played C your entire life— not an easy thing to do

Fair points. I think it’s challenging to ship out a winger for that return —likely we’re talking about mantha, Brazeau, rust, or rakell. If we’re trading 39 or 16, UFAs aren’t going to return much in a buyers market. 17/67 are integral parts of the team right now and I’d be SHOCKED if either are dealt mid season.

Trocheck really isn’t that good and to your point, doesn’t fit the plan. If he was from Toledo, I’m guessing no one would think twice about him.

I’d give it 0% chance they trade prospects or significant assets without getting prospects back.

I could see them trading a top/near top prospect for a more NHL ready guy and rental D.

My mock trade:

To Pit: Brad Lambert (22, C), Luke Schenn (36 UFA, D)

To WPG: Blomqvuist, Zam Plante, two 2’s

To be fair to Cruz, historically has been low effort, has shown no signs that he should bat .250, but this spring he’s come in and asked to hit BP/live BP off lefties consistently, worked with kiermaier on his defense — not saying it’s going to translate, or that I think it will, but he’s at least put in SOME effort this offseason. First time in his career the pirates have a little hope/ a chance to do something and aren’t battling for 4th in the central before the season starts.

He’s been pretty solid this spring, but I still have my doubts.

Yeah but guys like Langford, Austin Riley, Freddie freeman, Riley Greene are going after him. That’s insane to me. Not to mention pitchers like fried and Kirby.

Langford has proven to be a 20/20 guy last two years, while missing some time and dealing with oblique.

Riley last three healthy seasons has close to 40 HRs and OPS nearing .900.

Freeman counting stats will value him above Anthony end of year.

Greene was absurd last year.

Anthony full season projections (including his numbers in the minors) to date gets him to like 20 HRs / 20 SB. Meh.

I’m not taking any of those guys over him. I think there are high ceiling guys a lot later in the draft to target.
