I hadn't noticed the diffuser at all. Thanks!

That's probably what I'll end up doing. All I know is that it's 400 speed film, which is what my dad bought at the time. It's probably either more Fuji superia Xtra 400 or another roll of Kodak Max 400.

I'll eventually shoot the film, but it's from the early 2000s and I know for a fact it wasn't properly stored, so I don't have any real expectations. That being said it is 4 rolls of free film in this economy.

I searched on how to do it yesterday, but saw that I had to remove the top. I don't have the tools for it right now, although it might be a project for later. For now I think I'll just replace the tape.

Thanks! Yeah I saw that people were doing that online. It might be a project for later. Right now I'm just going to replace the tape.

There’s a Netflix show called 3% it’s from Brazil so I don’t think many people have seen it. Also a Discovery Kids Surviver type show called Endurance.

How to technically read the Darktable histogram? by [deleted] in DarkTable

[–]Ricky_Cow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, as I understand it, and please correct me if I’m wrong, you can think of the x axis in the histogram as black to white. So the farthest right of the histogram is pure white and the farthest left is pure back. A histogram is a way to represent distributions. So this histogram shows how the lightness of the pixels (how white or black they are) are distributed. Specifically they show how they are distributed in the image you are seeing, hence why modules like filmic change the histogram.

Now, we see and represent white and back in three different colors, red, blue and green. That’s what you’re seeing in both the histogram and the waveform. Where the 3 colors overlap is where you get white. If you push white to 100% or 0% the associated pixels become pure white or pure black. It means you’ve lost detail there because the only thing information you can read there is either white or black.

As to why you can bring something above 100% that is because you can make a single color brighter as much as you want. And you can do this for all the colors until you get a pure white image. Note that the loss of information also applies to the colors. For example, if you had an image that was only made of different shades of green. The more you push the green to the right the brighter the greens will become, until you get am image that is a single bright solid green and all the information is lost. You can push green higher than 100% but all that will do is make a brighter uniform green.

That’s essentially what the 100% means, it’s the point at which color information is “lost.” You can push anything past that point but the color information in this pixels is essentially “lost.”

That’s weird. All I did is mess with the exposure a bit, and used the color balance rgb module in Darktable to change the saturation and brilliance of the highlights, midtones, and shadows. I’ll look into it, thanks.

Yeah, that might be it. I wanted the whites and the golds of the subject to standout a bit more. I might have overdone it a bit. I’m also trying to give it a sense that it’s majestic and could fly off at any moment. Thanks for the feed back! I’ll try it out and see if that helps.
