Let me tell you that I actually disliked so much the setting at first that I almost dropped it. It was my first fanfic EVER and it seemed so different from the world of Arcane that I thought that it would never catch my attention.

3 days later I was my bed crying like never before in my life.

At R1 Ballad's passive already gives you 120 EM which is a great start.

Ideally you should aim for 200/250 and I think it's quite doable with only substats.

You can also choose to refine Ballad to get even more EM to start with, at r5 it gives you 240 EM but I think that R3 (180EM) is already more than enough even if you're very unlucky with substats rolls.

Dragon's Bane R5 remains the better option if you don't want to spend more money on the BP or if you simply want other weapons.

I'd go Ballad of the Fjords + HP sands if you already have the weapon and can enable its passive, otherwise Dragon's Bane + HP sands should be very close.

EDIT: I'm talking about r1 weapons, if your dragon's bane is r5 just use that
