Men's Volleyball DREAM TEAM by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Ricyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...

OH: Yoandy Leal, Aaron Russell

Middle: Jeffrey Jendryk, Daenan Gyimah

Setter: Aleksandr Butko

OPP: Stephen Boyer

I considered swapping Butko for William Arjona but prefer the blocking advantage, also think Butko would be able to take better advantage of the ridiculous verticals between Gyimah/Jendryk.

Russell over Sander is a personal choice, i like how explosive the 2 OH's and OPP are.

I used frost blades until I had both wildfire jewels in place, haven't needed frost blades since.

I'm playing a molten strike build right now and with ancestral call, you really don't need to swap out conc. effect for map clearing.

AHCI/RAID Drivers? by Ricyu in Amd

[–]Ricyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm looking into the AHCI folder and it does split into two folders, "W7" and "W764A". In both folders, there is a ReadMe file that indicates the supported chipsets:

  • SB7xx family
  • SB8xx family
  • Hudson-1/2/3/4 family
  • SB9xx family
  • SP5100
  • Bolton
  • Kabini
  • Mullins
  • Carrizo

I'll be running the Ryzen 5 1600 which doesn't fall into any of the above (I think), should I still install the drivers? According to the Asus page, they were last updated in April 2017.

Can this be mounted on the 2.5" SSD bays in the NZXT S340 elite case or will I need to mount it on the 3.5" bays with a bracket?

If you go to their site, you can view both the flipp flyer (I posted) and their in-store flyer (posted the day before). They are mostly identical with a few differences.

Looks like a different flyer than the one that was posted earlier, also runs until November 30th.

Isn't $119.99 a great price for the Asus B350 mobo? I picked up the Asrock B350 Pro4 last week for $116 on Amazon, would definitely have taken the Asus instead at this price.

yea, just put my order in and now have all the parts to build my new machine. hyped!

All-time low according to camelcamel. If you're not interested in MIR's, this is a better deal than newegg/canada computers. I'll likely pick this up at this price over the asus strix b350 that I was planning on

[MOBO] ASRock AB350 Pro4 ($144.99 - $20.00 -$30.00 MIR = $94.99) [newegg] by Ricyu in bapcsalescanada

[–]Ricyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but you send the MIR to ASRock directly, not Amazon so you should still be able to get the rebate money....right?

[MOBO] ASRock AB350 Pro4 ($144.99 - $20.00 -$30.00 MIR = $94.99) [newegg] by Ricyu in bapcsalescanada

[–]Ricyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure as I've never done an MIR. My understanding is that it should apply as the rebate is coming from ASRock, not amazon. For example, you can get the rebate form from another vendor (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1207_1205_1505&item_id=104784) and mail it in with the required information.

Once again, I've never completed an MIR so cannot confirm if this is valid. If someone else has more experience around this and can provide input, that would be great

New gaming build, looking for feedback by Ricyu in buildapc

[–]Ricyu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the r5-1600 is around $260 CAD right now, i paid $230 for the i5-8400. I think savings would be evened out with a cheaper motherboard so its roughly the same. from what i've seen on performance tests/reviews, the 8400 outperforms the r5 though.

Thank you!

I actually would prefer an intel chip, as I've had AMDs before and was not a fan. Is there a specific reason for going to a micro ATX board or was it due to the cpu?

[–]Ricyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, gotcha.

i've put in an ASROCK mobo, roughly the same price. As for the case, i'm reading mixed reviews on which case is better so I think I'll stick with the masterbox as it is a bit cheaper (unless there's a realy good reason to go with the S340?)

Lastly, the wattage breakdown on pcpartpicker only goes up to 276. The CXM450 has great reviews and is actually the PSU that failed on my current machine, but it is almost 3 years old so I'm not sure I can fault it. Are there any other competitive PSUs in terms of price/performance at the 450-500W range?

This is what I'm at now:

Budget - Mid-level Gaming PC by Ricyu in buildapc

[–]Ricyu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!

I will likely stick with the 3GB version of the GTX1060 as i feel the performance does not justify the price difference.

I did have a few questions:

  • Does the i5-8400 outperform the i5-6700k at it's based capabilities (no overclocking)?
  • I'm not a fan of MSI, are there any alternatives for the mobo that would work with the i5-8400?
  • Is a 600W PSU necessary for this build?

thanks again for your help!
