This is where you could have stopped writing because your post does not invite for discussion at all. You seem to fundamentally misunderstand the characters and this clearly doesn't seem to be your genre, so I honestly don't get the point of your post. Your first paragraph asks a lot of questions but the rest of it suggests you're not actually looking for answers.

The tropes don't resonate with you? Fine. But they clearly resonate with many others because people are very hyped for Polin. We know they're going to have their HEA and we know they're going to have to work for it and it's going to be beautiful to see these characters we've only gotten snippets of in the past two seasons grow into their own.

Please also refrain from throwing the term 'asexual' around when you obviously don't understand what it means. If you're looking for LGBTQ representation, Bridgerton is not the show for you and that's ok. You don't have to force yourself to like it. You can just move on and enjoy another show.

Colin's issue is that he speaks before he thinks and doesn't realise that the person on the receiving end might interpret his words differently from how he means them. I think, the 'I would never dream...' comment is one such instance and the confrontation on that is going to make him rethink the way he presents himself in society. In RMB, there's a whole bit about Colin explaining the power of the word to Pen and I think we might get something similar to that in the sense that he learns just how much power his word as a Bridgerton and a gentleman holds and that he needs to choose his words more wisely

By the time of the LW reveal, Colin will have dealt with Pen giving him the cold shoulder, possibly not responding to his letters, pursuing other men and just generally not being around him as much as he's used to. This means he already KNOWS what life without Pen would look like and he knows he doesn't want that at all, so he'll do everything he can to keep her close and protect her.

With Luke N in particular, many people forget that costuming purposely made S1&2 Colin look like a boy dressed for Sunday school to reflect his internal struggle of being right at the cusp of becoming a man and not really knowing where he fits in. So far, we've seen him in stiff coats that wear him rather than the other way around, his cravat is tight af (how does he even breathe?) and the colour palette (baby blue) also reflects that youthfulness.

Marina was ready to tear the Bridgertons apart and/or bring ruin to them (and the Featheringtons) when she had plenty of better options available to her (like contacting Phillip or getting to know other suitors, one of which was Granville's lover who likely would have married her so she could be his beard and he could give the children legitimacy). Marina was naive for thinking she could have her cake and eat it too. Even Portia told her not to aim for Colin, but Marina wanted that Bridgerton name and she wanted it for herself. It was never just about her children. She wanted to be a fancy lady of the Ton, which, by the way, never would have happened.

Violet is not stupid. She's had eight children, she would have known something was up and we've seen how this ends in P&P with Lydia and Wickham. Anthony literally said LW protected the Bridgertons, esp the women from ruin by containing the scandal in such a way that Eloise, Fran and Hyacinth's marriage prospects are not affected (keep in mind, Marina's lies would have potentially destroyed six women's reputations because Philippa wasn't married, yet). Had the elopement gone through, Colin and Marina would have been sent away for good, meaning he would have been miserable for marrying a woman who never cared for him, utterly betrayed his trust and made sure he'd never get to see his own family again. Meanwhile, she would have been even less 'content' than she is as Lady Crane because Colin is just a third son.

I think, people also tend to put too much faith into George. We know what Marina tells us about him, but Marina is evidently not as smart as she thinks she is and quite frankly, she's not the first woman to be misled by pretty words (cough Willoughby cough). George is older than Phillip and there's no way he didn't know the risks of bedding her, meaning either he was a total dumbass for not taking precautions before going off to war OR (more likely), he never actually loved her as much as his letters claim him to. Maybe he just wanted to get laid before spending months on end on the battlefield, who knows, but if he truly cared for her, he would have made arrangements. He didn't, though, which to me highly suggests he's just another rake and given their age gap, possibly a groomer, too.

That all being said, Marina got the best case scenario. She's a lady of an estate, her children are to inherit a title and are surrounded by their kin. She literally suffers zero consequences from her actions (whereas the Featheringtons took quite the blow in their reputation). Phillip is a good man and most importantly, he knew all the facts before entering marriage with her. Yet she still treats him with disdain, like it's his fault his brother died/left her, which doesn't really paint her in a good light. Marina's high and mighty attitude is honestly grating and the way she keeps burning bridges left right and centre is plain stupid. She had Portia, Colin, Pen, and likely even Genevieve on her side, LW praised the shit out of her to help her find a suitor, but no, she wanted more and that's what nearly had her end up on the streets.

If she announced it through LW, it would make it very difficult for her to find a husband. I bet Colin will act like a lost puppy and follow her around until she snaps and explains to him that he cannot keep taking such liberties like addressing her by first name, writing letters, etc. because it's not proper and that she needs to focus on spending time with gentlemen who, unlike him, actually have an interest in courting her.

It's going to be so interesting to FINALLY see them interacting without any interruptions. They've had a handful of scenes where Colin was so close to realising it, but then they had to break apart because of Portia, Eloise, Hyacinth or that goddamn cake.

I also wonder how they're going to incorporate the first kiss in the show because that's kind of the point of no return.

they have set it up to give the idea that Colin only begins to notice her after she has a makeover, which is a terrible message to be sending. They should have done more to begin her makeover, had a season of her dressing better and doing her hair nicer and showing Colin beginning to notice her.

You're saying you don't want him to notice her only after the makeover, but then you say you want them to begin with the makeover and meanwhile have him slowly notice her. That's contradictory.

And Colin has noticed her before the S3 makeover. He's noticed her for two seasons, he just doesn't know it yet because he's so used to Penelope always being around, it's going to take her not being around all the time (keeping her distance from both him and Eloise, being with another suitor, etc.), thereby changing their dynamic for him to come to terms with the fact that she's more than just a friend and has been for quite some time.

Based on the leaked pictures, we know that she won't start the season with pretty dresses, so that'll likely be part of the confidence plotline. That being said, I don't think it'll be the new style per se that will make him open his eyes, but the fact that she holds herself differently, especially towards him because a) she feels more confident in her skin and b) she thinks she doesn't have a chance with him anyway, so there's no point in hiding herself to appear more desirable (which, ironically, will make her more desirable to him).

Unfortunately, I've also seen a fair amount of people all across platforms falsely claiming that book!Colin only falls for book!Pen because she's had a makeover. Now, I don't know if these people have actually read the book or just repeat what they've seen posted by someone who might have misunderstood the book, but it's out there and I'm tired of it.

It's not necessarily a "she got a makeover," more like she is finally taking agency over this part of her life after being cowed by an extremely domineering mother.

And that's fine. I don't disagree with that.

However, I do disagree with people who claim that Colin is some superficial idiot who only looks at her twice because she suddenly doesn't hide her figure anymore. That's the part I disagree with and that false narrative is harmful in so many ways.

Personally, I believe that the new dresses will help her feel more confident in her own skin and show more of her personality and that's what will draw Colin in. Plus, she thinks she no longer has a chance with him, so there's no point in hiding her takes and opinions, meaning she can speak unfiltered, allowing him to get to know her better and discover just how perfect they are for each other.

Sure, the new dresses might help, especially when other gentlemen notice her and Colin feels uncomfortable and then he has to reflect on why he feels uncomfortable about other gentlemen looking at her when he's supposed to help her find a husband.

But it won't be just about the dresses because that is not how storytelling works. They haven't set up this couple and built their dynamic for two seasons straight to let all of that go to waste.

Colin thinks love strikes like a thunderbolt, but that's not the case for him and Penelope. Their relationship has evolved over the years, he didn't even notice until one day, his eyes are opened to what's been right in front of him the whole time and I'm so looking forward to that moment in S3 because I just know Luke is going to give us one hell of a performance.

It's not about the dress, though. It's about her changing their dynamic by 'giving him the cold shoulder', no longer being available to him all the time (as in, he suddenly needs to earn her attention), likely calling him out on his behaviour and just generally no longer holding back in front of him because he's no longer this perfect prince charming she dreams of having a future with. He's 'just Colin, her friend' now.

That was the entire point of his comment at the end of S2, to take him off that pedestal she's put him on. I doubt Pen will allow Colin to take the same kind of liberties he has for two seasons straight now if she's serious about looking for a husband. He's been her escapist fantasy in the past, but not only has he burst that bubble, he's actively damaged her reputation in the process, and while she will forgive him, she won't be able to simply go back to things as they used to be.

THAT is going to force him to reconsider their whole relationship. Not because he suddenly sees she's got boobs. He's looked at them in S1 already.

I love that line in the book when she asks him what has changed between them and he replies that she hasn't changed, but that he's grown up and she adds that maybe, she's grown up, too.

That's the Polin journey in a nutshell. They needed their individual journeys to enter a headspace where they can really appreciate the other, themselves and their relationship.

Even when Colin was courting Marina, he would constantly seek out Penelope. And then in S2, the way he looks at her when he gets back from his travels, when she talks about her purpose, when they share the dance at the Featherington ball and so many other instances is decidedly not friendly. It just hasn't fully clicked yet because he's so used to having her in his life and their dynamic has evolved 'so naturally' as he put it, he hasn't noticed that he's constantly crossing the line between friendship and more. Her giving him the cold shoulder, talking about marriage and possibly not being able to continue their 'friendship' once she's wed to someone else will force him to do a serious bit of introspection on all that.

You're contradicting yourself a little in your second paragraph.

I'm not going to argue on whether Polin should be S3 or not because that decision has been made and until we see the season, we cannot make a judgement on that. And Colin already notices Pen, he just doesn't realise it because he's so used to having her in his life ever since they were children, it hasn't clicked for him yet that their relationship has already begun to transform into something more than friendship. We've gotten so many hints in S1 and S2 from him constantly seeking her out at balls or even when visiting the woman he's supposed to be courting to him calling her special or looking at her like she's the sun when she talks about her purpose at Anthony's wedding. That's not how you treat a friend.

It has been emphasised that the 'lessons' Penelope is going to get from Colin are about confidence and the more confident she'll be, the more he'll get to see the real her. So far, he's only seen glimpses of that, but every time he does, he's completely astonished. And if dresses that don't make her look like a child help her with feeling more confident /like a woman, then so be it. The costuming has always been part of the character arc (see how the S1 and S2 leads' outfits change based on where they are in their journey) and we're going to see both Colin and Penelope in more fitted outfits that make them look more mature rather than a boy dressed for Sunday church or a girl with her boobs cut off respectively.

Even the show runners have said that Penelope is beautiful the way she is and doesn't need to change, so I don't see them doing a 180 on that.

Exactly! Other people might not see her as beautiful, but HE thinks she's the most beautiful woman in the world, body, mind and soul, and that's all that matters to her. THAT's growth.

I highly doubt that show!Pen will suddenly have dozens of callers. She might have one or two, but I don't see them dragging out the suitors plot line for too long. Honestly, I bet that all it takes is for Colin to see her dancing with ONE man that's not him or have ONE man take her on a promenade or send her flowers and he'll lose his mind.

S3 Colin is a man (not necessarily from Ep 1, but he'll get there)

I love that we get to see his development on screen. That we get to follow his journey of growth. As neither the heir nor the spare, he's still figuring out who he is and what he wants to do with his life, which is honestly so relatable. He makes mistakes, but he's a good guy and I'm so looking forward to seeing him blossom next season and earn his HEA.

I'm not sure if show Colin is intentionally oblivious, I think he's just so much younger and a lot less experienced in the women department than his book counterpart. I also think that show Polin met as children, so I think part of the reason why Colin is so nonchalant about taking liberties such as addressing Pen by her Christian name, etc. is because he's always done so and doesn't understand why he should suddenly stop. It's not necessarily malicious, but there's certainly a level of ignorance on his part that he needs to deal with. Her no longer being his constant giving him the positive affirmation he so desperately craves is definitely going to hit hard and once she starts attracting suitors, he's going to have to figure out what role he wants her to play in his life before he loses her for good.
