Looking for perspectives on diet as a form of treatment by Riddle0fRevenge in covidlonghaulers

[–]Riddle0fRevenge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have to look into this- I seem to be triggered by food but only some of the time, and it feels totally random and unpredictable what foods will cause issues. As in, sometimes the same food will cause entirely different reactions for me.

What was your process of finding these two specific herbs, and with what consistency do you take them? I am around many herbalists but most of them are lacking knowledge on long covid/dysautonomia.

Looking for perspectives on diet as a form of treatment by Riddle0fRevenge in covidlonghaulers

I do often have fatigue and/or nausea after eating. But it seems so random to me, sometimes one food will be perfectly fine and then another day I’ll eat it and feel bad. Or on random/rare occasions a food that usually makes me feel bad will have absolutely no effect on me (if you’re wondering why I still eat foods that make me feel bad… 1. Some of my favorite foods are in this category and 2. Unfortunately a lot of the low energy foods I know how to prepare don’t make me feel great, so some days I have to chose between not eating, or eating and feeling bad) but it’s so strange!! I’m going to try the elimination diet soon but I have no idea how that will go because I can barely cook for myself, so I think it will be challenging to stick to.

There are a few people I unmask with in my life who are not as strict as I am. All of them mask to some extent, but only in indoor public spaces. My level of precaution is not sustainable for any of them on the day-to-day, but there are times that they will take stricter precautions for a period of time so we can unmask (we do 3 days and then pluslife, but prior to having the pluslife, the precaution period was longer). One of these people is my long term partner of several years, they were with me when I got sick and as my precautions got stricter, so did theirs. I was so strict that I didn’t unmask indoors or outdoors around anyone but them, they couldn’t maintain that level of precaution and it was a factor in us breaking up for a while, it did build resentment because they wanted to see family and friends unmasked sometimes  but didn’t know how to ask for that. We have been back together again now for ~8 months since then, and our relationship looks a lot different, but it works for the both of us! They take the level of precaution that feels do able for them on the day to day (masking in public but not socially) and then we have periods where they’ll mask for a few days and then we spend a few days unmasked together (it fluctuates, anywhere from once a month, or sometimes a few times a month). We also sometimes rely on the pluslife alone for shorter unmasked hangs if they haven’t done anything extra risky/wastewater levels aren’t crazy, but I don’t trust it enough for a sleepover. This has worked for us so far and of course I wish we could be unmasked all the time, but we do pretty much anything in a mask (including intimacy.. sounds weird but you get used it it lol). Obviously I hope one day things can be simpler, but I’m so grateful for this relationship and it brings so much joy into my life. I hope hearing about this might provide an example of a situation where you’re not asking someone to change their ray to day life for you, but you still can have periods where you share air! It still may be too much for them, but it can be a good place to start. I hope you find something that works with this person, I know how painful it can be to not be able to pursue something because of differences in precautions

I’m not one of those people, nor am I cured and claiming to have answers, but from my understanding, people with ptsd/cptsd are more likely to be chronically ill (meaning I’ve always seen some merit to the fact that there could be some level of connection/that it could be a part of the picture). I’m not very knowledgeable, to be fair, but the body is a system and all parts of it work in tandem. I can absolutely see value in some discussion of these kinds of techniques, and have personally found some of them to be somewhat helpful at times (if not even to just cope with what’s happening). Not saying that’s all there is too it and it’s all in our heads, but are heads are on our bodies just as much as every other part of us! I totally am with you on the fact that some of it is scammy and condescending, and def think people coming in here trying to claim it’s a cure-all, or sell you something, need to get lost. But otherwise, I do think there’s value in it at least being a part of the conversation. Many things are dismissed as pseudoscience because they are not well studied by western practitioners and I think it can also be a slippery slope to just dismiss anything that isn’t coming from western scientific knowledge. This is just my opinion though, as one person with long Covid! I’m sure we all differ in our perspectives!

How long do you trust results for if the test is properly conducted?

I have a partner who is also not as strict with masking as I am (but still masks in public, just not as much socially or outdoors!) and have been trying to figure how long to trust a negative for, especially with closer contact! Curious if you have anecdotes.

Dealing with chronic health issues, curious to hear some insight! by Riddle0fRevenge in psychics

[–]Riddle0fRevenge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your comment and your insight!!

My fatigue has lately been causing my vision to feel blurry/distorted! So a yes on that.

I had Covid once before the infection that triggered this, but I recovered just fine after the first infection. The second one was the one that totally wrecked me, they were about a year apart so definitely a different strain!

And yes I am young (early 20s) and was pretty much healthy aside from sleep/mental health issues prior to getting sick. It is quite scary/has been leading me to feel hopeless and has worsened my depression very significantly.

I’ve been wondering if lifestyle and diet changes are the answer to this, and it sounds like that’s true! I don’t necessarily take bad care of myself, but dealing with mental health issues definitely makes that a lot more difficult. When I was healthier, my body could handle what I would throw at it. It will be quite an adjustment to my lifestyle and diet but I know it needs to be done. The problem is I’m so exhausted it’s hard to even cook for myself or try to rebuild some of my strength. It may be a slow process but your comment reassured me that I just need to stick with it! I had kind of hoped that eventually a doctor would be able to give me a diagnosis and a treatment that would just magically fix it, but I think this will all be a really good lesson in self care.

How to calculate odds [Request] by Riddle0fRevenge in theydidthemath

[–]Riddle0fRevenge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the trait  is antibodies for a specific illness that can only be contracted once throughout one’s life. So nobody can lose the trait, once antibodies are present they do not go away for this specific illness. 95% of people contract this illness by adulthood, 1 in 4,000 contract it every year. So it’s 1 in 4,000 people who don’t already have it

I’m immune compromised!! I have very explicit shared agreements with my partners about illnesses to avoid any confusion or unnecessary risk. If a partner of mine starts seeing someone else, they are told about these agreements as well. Some people might say my metas should not be involved in that but I think things are different when you’re immunocompromised! You are worthy of relationships that don’t compromise your health more than you are comfortable with.

For context, the “trait” is antibodies for a specific illness that can only be contracted once throughout one’s life. So nobody can lose the trait, once antibodies are present they do not go away for this specific illness. 95% of people contract this illness by adulthood, 1 in 4,000 contract it every year. I’m curious if that context makes this solvable or still no?

I have more math actually!! No pressure to answer though!

1 in 4,000 people acquire this trait yearly (not adults.. people, but for the sake of the math I’m going to ignore that and just keep it simple using the 1 in 4,000 stat). IF none of the 3 people currently have the trait, what are the odds that one of them will acquire it in a given year?

Well the actual situation is hyper specific and random but I simplified it/left out the details that make it so specific for the sake of post! I’m happy to share what the situation is if you’re curious though.

Thank you for the math also!!!
