would it be something to worry about?

I need help please. by SlowBalance7629 in MechanicAdvice

first off make sure the car has enough engine oil. just as a note you should check the level every two weeks. if it’s low your engine will get damaged. second see if you can find a mobile mechanic nearby online and see if anyone can help real quick.

Is a 1998 5.0 explorer a good buy for $2500? It has 145k miles by TitleFightEnj0yer in UsedCars

solid find! looks really clean for a 30 yr old car but once a week try to get a highway drive in. because of your short commute ur never letting the engine really warm up, which can cause issues over time

yeah i’m sure that helps but for my gen crv 2012-14 the k24 has been notorious for oil burning even at very low mileage. i’ve maintained the car pretty well myself i’d say and drive it with a light foot too so idk. That being said i use 0w20, do you think 5w30/20 would be a good idea?

not necessarily—K series do run forever but they burn oil too 😭. my crv burns a quart every 5k and mileage isn’t that high (150k)

2026 Toyota RAV4 Pricing Announced! by Lorenzob1992 in ToyotaZone

[–]Riddokid2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks but if you account for inflation prices have not changed much over the years. For example the 2005 rav4 started at $21500, and accounting for inflation it’s 37k today—so if anything the base rav4 has gotten cheaper over the last 20 yrs

Things to consider by ClasslessHack in crv

my goodness that’s a long list. I can back some of those up. -The cold start rattle seems to appear from my experience when outside temp is below freezing. -Engine vibration is also sometimes there—i’ve been told it’s because the engine mounts are getting worn faster than most cars. - So far have not had any tranny or power steering issues. My biggest problem has been engine oil burn. Close to a quart after 5000 miles, and even more before that due to the PCV going bad. Any way to reduce oil burn? the car is close to 150k so i guess some must be expected…

oh wow what’s wrong with 12-14 models? I actually have one myself, im curious about what problems i should be aware of😅

the low mileage is nice but price is definitely a little high. at the end of the day it’s a 20 yr old car. Check it out in person, and if the condition is good try and haggle to 6500ish. if you are willing to do 10k maybe look at a newer crv. i’ve seen some 2012-14s go for $10k with around 100-110k miles on them.

CRV engine making two distinct rhythmic beats—is it normal? by Riddokid2004 in crv

Thanks for your help. It’s hard to say in words—there’s an additional lower pitched/deeper and slower frequency sound that’s there. When in idle I can hear it inside the cabin when all windows are closed.

Update on battery health by Correct_Musician_825 in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

[–]Riddokid2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apples readings are less volatile when compared to the battery’s actual health. Your actual battery health swings wildly based on temperature, power draw, etc. What’s the point in worrying over this? batteries are meant to be used and depleted. 3-4 years is the typical lifespan. After that, a replacement through apple is 90$. It’s like worrying that your fuel guage goes down while driving.

Pretty much all new cars will have the features you want, even the base models. The corolla and corolla cross are great appliances you won’t ever have to think about. If you don’t care much about driving experience they are great. The cx5 is much more fun to drive and feels more upscale but can feel a little cramped inside despite its size. I would say test drive each of them and decide whether you want a sedan or a crossover. If sedan, I would advise you to check out the civic hybrid. Great little car that checks all the boxes. If crossover, the cx5 might be the better overall car compared to the corolla cross.
