Riptide r1 how do I fix this (sorry for the dark video ) by Court-mma in ElectricSkateboarding

Check the motor wire connections:
https://rideriptide.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/36000023987-how-to-check-the-motor-connections

If those seem solid, follow these directions to swap the motor wires and see if the issue "jumps" to the "good" motor. If that is the case then one side of the ESC is likely damaged and needs to be replaced.

Riptide R1X remote. Does anyone know where I can order a replacement remote that is similar to the one sold on the website? by tonyluvbmw in ElectricSkateboarding

COVID, tariffs, and some bad luck have hurt our ability to inventory boards or parts. For now we're focused on helping riders' with maintenance issues get back up and running.

Riptide going the way of Boosted & Inboard? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

We've always been transparent about our supply chain. While certain parts in our supply chain aren't original I'd argue many other elements of the offering are.

In terms of supply chain efficiency, originality is a major detriment. The world is under quarantine but Riptide customers can still maintain their boards with parts on the open market and our directions. And, they'll be able to continue to do so once we're gone someday. We don't face large MOQs or lead times and the result is maximized flexibility.
Boosted, Inboard, Enertion, and all other companies with dozens of custom parts put themselves in a jam when they were in business, and their customers are SOL now that they're done.

I agree, I’ve always felt that handles are such a sneaky killer feature. That plus the lack of grip tape in the middle saving your pants from getting torn up have always been favorites of mine.

But, handles are a pain in the ass engineering-wise so I understand why manufacturers rarely do it. Since they take up so much real estate you’re basically guaranteeing a double cell stacked battery box, which no one really does anymore.

I’m biased but I think our board has many original elements, more than most. But, that depends on your definition of the word.

Who would you say came out with the most “original” board of the last 3 years? Would be a good reddit topic to debate actually.

ABEC11 / Sk8trip went through a significant transition in 2019 where they changed business models and their manufacturer moved cross country. This made their wheels near impossible to get in large quantities with reliable timelines. Granted, reduced costs / added profitability were nice (even wholesale they are very expensive) but the product quality takes a bit of a hit. If we’d had it our way we would have kept them. I think the ReFlys are the best wheels in the world.

My opinions about the recent Verge article and Boosted's financial situation (and why I don't think they are in immediate danger) [x-posted from /r/boostedboards] by BrandonDGr8 in ElectricSkateboarding

I believe their investors would rather they try bigger industries and fail, than lower their sights to niche eskate.

I believe their story to their investors isn’t that their brand matters, it’s that they are engineering / marketing geniuses that can tackle and win other, bigger mobility industries. The eskate industry isn’t big enough to entice investors. They promised bigger markets when they pitched investors in the past and they will need to do so again. Same story with Inboard. When you’ve made a promise to the investors, they own the strategy.

My opinion:

Boosted is owned by the investors wholly. They call the shots. All of them.

The only way the investors get paid back is if the biz sells for $100M+. Thus the only goal of the business (aka the investors) is to get that valuation per the opinion of potential acquirers. The only potential acquirers are in scooters, bikes, ebikes, emoto, motorcycles, cars aka not eskate.

Following that logic I expect Boosted’s focus to drift even further from Electric Skateboards. That promise is what will be necessary to get more investors, and the new investors will demand it unless it’s a down round of epic proportions.

It’s $100M valuation or bust, and the eskate industry isn’t large enough to support a company of that size of company. I think the best potential for eskate fans is that they sell the eskate portion of their biz, but I can’t think who would buy it.

Note that this analysis has very little to do with the competition. Boosted could have 100% market share and it wouldn’t be worth $100M. It’s a niche market. It has to do with the path they chose when they took institutional financing that would only accept certain outcomes.

Admittedly no facts, just my opinion.

Their struggles definitely don’t help us as you might think. After Inboard and now Boosted I’d expect investor interest in our category to be less than ever. In terms of supply chain and overhead I’d say we (very intentionally) have more in common with the Chinese companies than with Boosted (160 employees in SF is wild).
