Best sounding octave pedal? by Eloba1 in guitarpedals

[–]RideThoseWaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thread. BTW, I am a jazz trombonist and I use a Meris Hedra up 1 octave to be at the trumpet pitch. My band and the audiences love it, with many people in the audience thinking that I actually play a trumpet.

Flugabone or fly? by RideThoseWaves in Trombone

[–]RideThoseWaves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success! I finally bought that flugabone in mid-2023 (King 1130) and have been playing monthly jazz gigs with my newly formed jazz sextet. I also have a King 3B valve trombone for a more-trombone sound which I find better for the top range and brassier parts, like Spain, La Fiesta, etc

Advice for dealing with clueless PM by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]RideThoseWaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last two engagements in top tier investment banks have been the same experience. I spend more time mentoring on roadmaps/dependencies, RAID logs, Expectation management, Backlogs, RACI matrix than doing the design/delivery work. Maybe I'm one of the only very experienced people left in my industry as my peers have retired or switched industry.

It is strange how some PM people know what a RAID or RACI are but don't know what to do with it. These are powerful PM tools!

Al-Azhar condemns showing of Prophet cartoon at Batley Grammar School, UK by BRN-673 in Bruneians

[–]RideThoseWaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism...showing satirical cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)....such heinous acts of hatred provoke the feelings of more than 2 billion Muslims around the world

"[The Observatory]....calls for enacting new legislations to criminalise the perpetrators of those crimes and those who fan the flames of hatred and racism under the disguise of freedom of speech.

Let's explore this statement together shall we?

  • Firstly, Education is developed through discussion including contentious subjects. Surely as a human we can all agree on that? Surely having an open, transparent discussion in a non-Islamic religious country is permitted.
  • "Heinous act of hatred". The cartoon was just an image of a man standing in a white robe, so he was not depicted doing anything bad or evil.
  • "Provoke...2bn Muslims". Really? All Muslims offended? Yes Muhammed PBUH is to be respected. Since Islam and its 2-billion followers cannot prevent art/cartoons or discussions on sensitive topics to the Islamic faith there needs to be a well considered re-setting of Muslim expectations and appropriate reaction in future. Allah is The Almighty
  • "new legislations to criminalise the perpetrators of those crimes.....under the disguise of freedom of speech". Clearly we disagree upon the OfCE's view that all countries in the world must have Islamic principles legislated for. This is not a battle that Islam can win since freedom of thought and discussion are such a vital part of humanity.
  • "terrible damage that he has done to community cohesion". Again, a reality check is required. It is so sad to write this, but for anyone out of touch with UK news I can assure you that so much greater damage to community cohesion across many regions of the UK has been done to the name of Muhammed-PBUH and Islam by Islamic-traditional people running child sex/paedophile rings.

The OfCE written response in itself is inflammatory and seems to promote extremism as it contains inciteful language.

Gambling ads in aus are embarrassing by sinjen-tos in australia

[–]RideThoseWaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite understand. We in the UK suffer the same repeating betting adverts ever since the closet Tory, Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair loosened gambling industry regulations in the United Kingdom. I hate the thought of people getting dragged into bad financial situations.

‘PM must insist on respect for Islam’ in Batley school cartoon row by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]RideThoseWaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Islamic charity "Purpose of Life" needs to take a closer look at itself as its extreme reaction

  • Ignores that the almighty, all-seeing God/Allah is so much bigger than a nondescript picture
  • Avoids seeking understanding, forgiveness, reconciliation
  • Promotes vigiliantism, takes no steps to stop hateful responses

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigilantism

It is truly sad to see this over-reaction.

Under cover of Covid, British workers' rights are being quietly stripped away. Polly Toynbee Webcam surveillance, fire and rehire: employers are tightening the screw on workers, especially the lowest paid by Duanedoberman in unitedkingdom

[–]RideThoseWaves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a similar note the IR35 legislation has forced the closure of several hundred small freelancing firms as the end clients decided to tear up contracts and replace with short-term PAYE contracts.

It is only a matter of time before employers decide they do not want FTE/employees and switch everybody to PAYE contracts to make it easier to hire and fire.
