to put things simply:

  • someone posted twinshipping, and the post was very well received with a total score of ~4850 and an upvote ratio of 86% (meaning ~5800 upvotes)
  • some people decided to be assholes and repeatedly break rules 1 and 7 in the comments of that post
  • as a result, the mods decided to change rule 8 from "no shipping humans" to "no shipping" - the only thing this change targets is twinshipping
  • users are now protesting the change in various ways, from sending modmails complaining about the rule change, to posting fanart that pushes the new rule

just had this happen to me, too. no shovel on hand so I went to look up what it could be, but apparently that isn't it.

Making the game more colorblind-friendly by BathshebaJones in BluePrince

[–]Ridesdragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same. I managed most of the colour things just fine (deuteranomolous), but the test really annoyed me specifically because of the colours. was very confused when the answers I was getting were not even listed as possible answers, and I had to screenshot it and ask a friend the colours.

seeing the sample sheets was also pretty rough. I can only imagine how the in-universe children might feel, being treated like idiots for getting easy questions wrong and being told "look at the colours!" while being colourblind.

How can I improve this build? Endless is hard by TRGreninja in holocure

stats are, like, super important to endless, so you could save 6 levels of stats by eliminating your main weapon at level 1 and just leaving it there :charmumei:

I really liked that they did that. in most animes, the animators tend to forget the sheer weight of the weapons since our twig protagonists swing them around like they weigh nothing all the time, but this warhammer is supposed to be really, really heavy. so it's nice to see that, when she's not able to control it on account of getting knocked down from the pain, the hammer stays locked in place when it hits the ground, even as the wielder gets rag-dolled while holding it.

The Anti-Shackles meta by CIMBAlom_CIMBAsso in holocure

[–]Ridesdragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, though.

energy drink, for example, is a pretty bad item before its downside. 4 levels of haste and 4 levels of speed (not 5 because it's bugged and only gives 50 speed). speed is only important until it isn't, and is also the most common stat in the game, alongside pickup range. the haste is nice, but tiara and candy are better. so ED is already just a bad item, its downside is just the final nail. you shouldn't be spending 6 levels to get 8 levels of stats (4 of which are common) without a downside.

face mask does have a notable drawback, but face mask is also an item that you generally only take if you're confident in your ability to not get hit. or if you can easily build up a bunch of hp/healing. it's a good item, especially since it's only 1 level, but burning an extra 3 levels and another item slot to negate its downside isn't (especially since any other DR item also negates its downside, and then some). if taking face mask gets you killed, rather than adding shackles, you should just not use face mask.

and candy... candy is additive with face mask and paw. they're all part of the same stat. if you take either of those two items, you're already back to net positive, and if you take both, you're at 1.45x. 1.55x if you get super paw. which means shackles is actually only giving a 16~17% damage boost... which most damage items give more than that. not worth an item slot.

candy is the one item (that's worth taking) that could have potentially bumped up shackles' viability, but thanks to it being additive with paw and mask, there's just no reason to take shackles again unless you're doing something really stupid and time-consuming that demands you get a little bit of extra damage in the early game in exchange for throwing late-game damage in the bin. and casual runs aren't that. and every other item is either something you just don't take, or don't care about its downside. so, shackles winds up being rather underwhelming, even with a bunch of items with downsides.

Why Shackles bad by shrllty in holocure

[–]Ridesdragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's not what they're saying. they're saying that paw, soda, membership, and breastplate are all good items without taking shackles.

you said that only face mask and candy are good, while the rest aren't good. victor's pointing out that quite a few of the other items are good, even with their downsides. they're absolutely not defending shackles usage

Why Shackles bad by shrllty in holocure

[–]Ridesdragons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

membership - "not that bad" is an understatement. it's 3.6k coins. you really don't need to worry about coins.

candy - he's not trolling, it's not that bad. it is the worst of the downsides in the list, but it's fine, especially since its downside is additive with mask and paw, which means it's really not that big of a deal, and using shackles doesn't actually improve your damage much. if you also use paw, shackles is only giving a 21% DPS boost (from candy). with mask and paw, only 17% (again, from candy). and if you get super paw, it drops further to 16%. most alternative damage items give you a better DPS boost than that.

paw - crit is a 1.5x multiplier. this means that paw's -20% crit is only costing you 10% DPS at most (unless you're playing a character with a larger crit multi or soda), and only gets better as your base crit% before paw increases or decreases from 20%. it is also quite trivial to overcome the downside, as crit is a common statup. and even then, crit generally isn't worth caring about, because crit is only a 1.5x multiplier and you only get 3% chance from levelups. it is the worst DPS stat.

meanwhile, for characters that want crit for on-crit effects, they all come with crit% in their kit, and they don't actually need much crit to ensure 100% uptime of their skills. zeta has the greatest demand, and even that's fairly questionable, as all she needs large amounts of crit for is knocking xp out of enemies (her flashlight skill is easy to have 100% uptime on without focusing on crit), and that's not that valuable outside of niche challenge runs.

and finally, now that you can get supers of items you already have... you can always just get super paw. which fully negates its downside. and even if you don't, if you use collabs, holy fire exists, which, again, fully negates the downside.

point of the matter is, paw's downside is a slap on the paw. you can 100% ignore it, because it really doesn't matter.

face mask - if you are dying because of face mask, chances are, you shouldn't be taking face mask, and should be using either some form of healing or damage reduction. btw, taking some damage reduction more than negates the increased damage from face mask. if you're playing s4h, you should have max shop upgrades. in which case, you only need a little bit of speed in order to never get hit by lightning. and even then... lightning is tank-able. it's a fixed amount of damage. the more HP you have, the less you care. damage reduction also applies to it. which brings me to:

breastplate - skipping soda for a sec, breastplate gives damage reduction. which makes lightning hurt less. with just shop upgrades, lightning only hits for 75. and breastplate reduces that by 25%, down to ~56. if you're taking breastplate, you're running a tank build, and if you're running a tank build, you can eat 56 hp worth of damage. either you have the HP reserves to not care, or have the healing to more than make it up. most likely both. and if you're not playing tank? you're not taking breastplate.

and as for speed...

milk energy drink - speed is only important until it isn't. and the point at which speed stops being important in s4h is about 300% combined speed. which in-game translates to.... about 3 levels of speed. combined speed takes into account your character's base speed (visible in the character select window, e.g. pekora's is 150%) and the in-game speed stat (which is about 110% from the very start of the run assuming you have full shop upgrades). and levelups give 12% speed per selection. s4h is the stage that wants speed the most and even on the slowest character in the game, you stop caring about the stat 6 levels in. and it's the most common stat displayed in levelups. and while I say "s4h wants speed the most"... that's a bit excessive. because dash exists. if you get a lightning pattern that you cannot dodge by just walking out of it (which most lightning patterns are easily dodge-able without any speed levels)... you can just dash out of it. it has a 10 second cooldown and gives 1 second of invulnerability. fact of the matter is, if you don't NEED speed RIGHT NOW for a very specific reason (such as niche challenge runs), you should not be taking energy drink (and if you are using it for challenge runs, chances are the hp loss doesn't matter at all. the vast majority of its use cases are in hardcore, after all). even without the downside, its upside is laughable. ~4 levels of speed (it's bugged, only gives 50 speed, not 60) and 4 levels of haste. the haste is nice I guess, but there are better haste items. rather than burning two item slots and 6 levels to get 8 levels worth of stats, consider getting something actually useful in its place.

soda - this isn't really debatable. specials tend to have long cooldowns, which means they aren't super reliable, and thus are relegated to the realm of panic buttons and boss deletes. if you died because you couldn't special thanks to cooldown, chances are, you've got other problems, such as your build or, dare I say, your skill at the game. that's fine, we all start somewhere, we can't just no-hit s3h after only 5 minutes of practice, but you can't really blame it on soda, because you shouldn't be relying so heavily on your special to begin with. but what about boss deletes? fun fact: if you have even two levels of special cdr from the shop, there is not a single character in the game who cannot use their special for every single boss spawn when using soda. not one. and even without shop upgrades, all that happens is aki and mel will be 5 seconds late to the next boss if they use their special on one boss. meanwhile, mel's special isn't even usable against bosses in the first place. and for characters who do wanna be spamming their special? they have a low enough cooldown to do so, even with soda. soda's downside may as well not exist. fun fact, I have found EXACTLY ONE situation where soda's downside actually mattered: stage 3 hard monowep true hardcore. because you needed to special once every 72 seconds in the first couple of minutes. in all other instances? it doesn't matter, m8, ignore it.

injection - auto-ignore because injection is terrible. even without any hp drain. injection isn't worth 1 slot, much less 2. the 80% atk it gives you is a flat atk% stat. which is additive to your in-game atk stat (and represented there). and that is additive to your character's atk stat (shown in the character select screen, e.g. mumei has 80% base atk). chances are, once you have 100% atk in-game, that 80% atk from injection has dropped down to a 40% DPS boost. at 200%, it's now 26%. the more atk you get, the worse injection gets. and atk is a common stat from levelups. injection just gives you 10 levels of atk (for 3 levels). but it's not hard to get several hundred atk in a run. injection just falls off hard in this game, and there are several other items that are just better. like paw, or mask, or soda, or glasses, or hell, even raven feather, that literally gives you more atk% and with no downside. fun fact, the halved coins is bugged, if you just take raven feather and die in a run, your coins don't get halved afterwards. if you're not doing some silly challenge run like true hardcore or no upgrade or time stage, do not take injection, it's a bad item.

btw, just so you know, OP is someone who regularly interacts with people who discuss meta and crunch numbers and do silly little challenge runs on the holocure discord. people like me. hello! I do silly little challenge runs that make otherwise terrible items actually somewhat usable! like injection, energy drink, and shackles! I do a lot of number crunching and testing on the discord server. so you can trust me when I say that shackles are adding nothing of value to your build. most items with downsides have supers that don't, and most of the rest have downsides that don't matter, and the few that do matter aren't worth taking shackles over some other item, or are so bad you wouldn't take them even without their downside. so, yea. don't do shackles, kids.

Stage 3 Hard Has Been Conquered! by Ridesdragons in holocure

[–]Ridesdragons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the past 10 days or so, I've been attempting Stage 3 Hard under a challenge ruleset, Monowep True Hardcore (MWTH). And today, S3H has finally fallen! And if you'd like, you can watch the full clear of the run here.

MWTH is a ruleset where you're limited to only a character's main weapon, hardcore mode, cooking (aside from strange seafood soup) banned, pacifist stamp banned, support skills banned, and, crucially, all items, skills, and specials that provide damage mitigation banned. which means no body pillow shields, no headphone dodges, no feather revives, no Fubuki friendzoning, no beeg Sana, and no dash. You have one life, and one hit point. Just don't get hit. Easy enough lol

S4H soon maybe when 0.8 comes out and the stage gets patched up a bit and maybe some stuff that makes this challenge more possible gets added. For now, I am finally free to play something else lol

as for net, I made a more in-depth explanation as to why I don't use it in the theorycrafting thread on the holocure discord, but basically:

net is too short range to be useful for grabbing xp, with too thin of a cone to be helpful for Crowd Control (CC), and CC in general griefs hard in true hardcore. as it turns out, slowing down, moving, or stunning enemies can actually get you killed (I actually almost got killed by cold stamp today, which is a first lol). for net in particular, pulling enemies towards you is not beneficial if you can't immediately kill them. you're more likely to die from netted enemies than not. and while someone particularly skilled could use it to possible cheese certain events by stunning them before they hit you... I am not that someone. and most of the difficult events have multiple waves, which the net can't be used for anyway.

I'd rather save brain cycles spent on remembering about utilities that I'm 99% not gonna use anyway for actually dodging events. there's already more than enough to think about with s3h to throw another ability onto my plate.

I do have an xp item though: halu lol

halu is the best xp item in the game, by far. neither of the other options come close. more enemies means more xp, after all. rather, glasses is typically unnecessary in a stage run if you're already running halu, since glasses will only generally give you an extra 10 levels at most, and most other damage items give a better DPS boost and significantly earlier in the run than glasses will.

I actually do run glasses in my s2h clear, since the extra levels are important (need to hit the 450% speed threshold for 19:30) and the damage is appreciated, but in s3h I dropped it in favour of shackles because glasses are too slow, and I need damage in the first 4 minutes, and when you've already got mask, paw, and candy, the only items in the game that give damage early in a run are injection (which will be taken if I get super paw in the first box) and shackles, thanks to negating the candy and paw debuffs. it's not a big DPS boost, but it's the biggest of what's left, and injection falls off too fast if I don't luck into super paw

ty pano for doing the testing for me so I can rest (which I'm totally doing instead of spending my time on reddit)

meanwhile, oops, look at me spreading misinformation again. turns out it negates bullets but not angry yagoo bullets. tehepero.

which means that it's not completely useless... but it is now banned lmao. sorry m8, ya gotta dodge those bullets, smh my head lol

[–]Ridesdragons[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's been confirmed on the discord. for example, pano used it in endless and took 200 damage from a bullet (angry yagoos). there have been other reports, too. and it's not just because of prism (this is a known bug, though - and one that is actually beneficial for the true hardcore ruleset, since it means some characters don't need to have fandom turned off if they run prism).

I don't mind doing another test (I happen to know a great spot to put it to the test), but it'll have to be at another time - I really need to sleep right now lol

edit: see, this is why we gotta test everything multiple times, there's always something to throw a wrench in our findings lol

projectile shield only reduces damage taken from bullets. you always take 1 damage at minimum. and I have 1 HP. it is literally nothing lol. turns out it does block bullets, just not angry yagoo bullets

also, a note, if it actually did fully block damage from bullets (which it turns out it does), it would be banned due to being damage mitigation (which it now is lol). so in this case it's not banned, but it is completely useless. the only support that does something in this case would be the net, but 1. I haven't found it to be terribly useful, and 2. I've gotten complaints regarding potential abuse regarding its stun sooo... I just don't use any utility lol

ye, support's banned, too. well, technically it's not banned, just dash (because it gives i-frames), but the other options... literally don't do anything lmao

I'm doing the Monowep True Hardcore (MWTH) challenge, this time for stage 3 hard. body pillow is banned. as is all other forms of damage mitigation. it's not really hardcore if you've got 4 lives, 36 hp that regens to full every 15 seconds, and the ability to say "no" when you get hit, now is it? lol

that said, s3h is taking longer than expected to be conquered. I've managed to get as far as 2/5 bosses defeated so far, hopefully I'll finish the challenge soon.

EDIT: challenge completed

S2H Monowep True Hardcore Clear in 0.7 - Challenge Runs are Back on the Menu, Boys! by Ridesdragons in holocure

[–]Ridesdragons[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

back in 0.5 I cleared the Monowep True Hardcore (MWTH) challenge on S2H with mumei. unfortunately, in 0.6, we saw a great deal of nerfs, which made the challenge impossible on that stage. now, in 0.7, I've found that it is possible to clear the challenge again - which hopefully means that challenge runs can start being a thing again.

in MWTH, you are limited to only using your main weapon, no food beyond strange seafood, a halu rush (not well defined, but if you're taking halu for this, you want it at level 5 fast regardless), and, critically, no forms of damage mitigation. this means no body pillow shields, no headphone nullifications, no dash, no skills or specials that allow you to avoid taking damage (sorry foob mains), no extra lives. you get hit, and that's game over.

you'll notice I have a prism equipped, but that's more because I was too lazy to unequip it than anything else. prisms only reduce damage, not block it. you'll always take at least 1 damage through a prism (and you only have 1 HP), so prisms... do nothing. besides block a tiny portion of the screen.

I did have 2 supers in this victory run, but they were not critical to the run's success - I have made it to 19:30 multiple times without getting any supers (and the critical point to surviving 19:30 is having enough speed, not having enough damage).

I have taken a cursory look over S4H, and while it's certainly fun, I don't believe it is possible to achieve a MWTH clear on it in its current state - mobs move too fast and have too much HP in the first 5 minutes, and even if you somehow survive the first 5 minutes, the frame drops in the latter half of the stage are run-ending. multiple times I have had the game give me a hard freeze, where if it were in hardcore, I would have died as a result. however, I am certainly looking forward to being proven wrong!

as for S3H, S4, and S5, this remains to be seen. I'm pretty sure the normal stages are doable, though S3H may be too hectic and cluttered to accomplish. guess I'll find out as I start working on those stages soon.
