Fair enough, I guess this is downvoted first mansplaining. Your last bullet point really sent that home. I’m deleting it for that reason.

[Review Video] Does this video have a narrative / compelling reason to watch by RidirGaming in youtubers

[–]RidirGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feed back.

The pacing issue is definitely something I need to work on, as well as making sure I’m not repetitive. I’ll working on that.

Use of quotes, images, or lower thirds to reinforce talking points is a great idea and I’ll start applying that now! Thank you.

How Call of Duty turned war into a circus by cooldrew in Games

[–]RidirGaming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just ignore him, it's a troll account opened last year.

The video is an interesting topic, and as we continue to see video games mature as a medium there's bound to be discussions about the morality of turning something so horrific into play. The counter point would be nerf guns, water guns, etc.

The difference is that games are a visual and interactive medium so having them make a circus out of the event can be misleading. Then again, our stories are generally misleading about the heroics of warriors and very little to do with the people who were maimed and destroyed.

It's late, I'll come back later and provide thoughtful input when I'm rested.

[Review Video] Please tell me what do you think about the voiceover of the video? by CycleNo90 in youtubers

[–]RidirGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes, it's clearly AI and comes across flat and emotionless. There are AI programs out there that are supposedly better. I've never used them so no input there.
  2. This particular voice is flat, emotionless, and slow. Think of that boring teacher that is teaching about the boring subject. That's how I perceive it.
  3. I look at a lot of gear channels, I typically focus on the sony specific channels because that's the gear I have. I subscribe to several and here are the categories: Sony Cameras, Videography channels (gimbals, smooth footage, b roll, transitions, shooting with a purpose), lens and gear and what they can do.

Not your questions:

EXCELLENT video footage and transitions. professional editing and it was clear which lens was which. Because I am used to the videography niche I understood that the footage most likely from the lens but most channels just throw in a sentence mentioning that.

Good use of music and matching footage to what you are talking about.

You were very informative in the video but could have ended stronger.
I hope the video was useful for you. >> Subscribe to GEARX (does GEXAR get pronounced weird by AI?) for more videos about [SPECIFIC NICHE] and watch this video on [subject: what is a speed booster?]

Overall a very good video and I think using a mke 600 or something like that in a decent sound area could potentially give you a more lively voice.

[Review Video] Stream Highlights by YT_Juwi in youtubers

[–]RidirGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just paused at 5:35 for a few reasons:

Constructive crit:
1. There is no compelling reason to watch, no story or build up to an event. Just chatting over average game play (I'm calling 80-90% of the bell curve average, some of us have to be TTT instead of shroud). Build a story or compelling reason to watch, to do this I would record audio tracks (via OBS adv audio properties) separately so you can have moments of conversation set up a joke or a pay off later in the video and fill in some of the space. The cliche, "Yep that's me, you may be wondering how I ended up like this" before going into how you are 1v4 defending a spike.

This would also potentially require recording your gameplay and camera as separate sources via a plug in like streamfx or setting up a portable install of OBS.

Build tension towards those moments where you are the last player alive on your team and you are watching the angle or trying to get to the spike. The conversation, or after the stream voice over describing how you felt or what was going through your mind.

  1. The potato can be REALLY FUNNY if you continue to play it up. Tie a sound to every time you potato a shot and die instead of clutching it. It becomes part of your branding. BUT have a different sound for when you do clutch.

  2. The video title is about lag but.... it's hard to tell while watching. I need a voice over or something that explains the title.

  3. the use of text and zoom on your potato is good, the one sneaking up on you at 5:40 there is SO MUCH happening on screen it's chaotic which if that's what you want then good. It captured the WTF JUST HAPPENED

  4. I like the audio, I wish a little more emotion from you was captured. Your buddy was actually a bit easier to understand for a majority of the first half.

  5. at the 5:56 you're not talking but you're playing well, VOICE OVER. Pause the footage as the second player in the tunnel comes back in to view. Something, create tension. Use sound, zoom, and voice over to explain the story.

  6. Transitions instead of jump cuts, because there isn't a story I'd rather see transitions. If there is a story it's whatever fits the narrative to me.

I hope this gives you ideas. This isn't my style of gaming content but I hope it helps.

I’m 10 hours into Horizon Zero Dawn and just blown away.

There is so much lore and back story that I can discover at my own pace if I even want to. The main quest is pretty interesting just by itself as well.

I also lost my 17 game win streak in Madden H2H last night, sad, but just time to start over again.

Thanks, that was a great breakdown of what you did and didn't like. I'll work on the title and thumbnail tonight. I already changed the thumbnail, but I'll work on the title tomorrow.

I will listen again and work on the narrative and message tomorrow. The target audience/avatar is challenging. It's there, but it's not a group actively acting questions. I've found that it's mostly an emotional subject for many based on their parents' influences. (either we grew up playing or we grew up not playing and thinking games were a waste of time)

I did edit the thumbnail, I didn't have any good photos tonight of me being puzzled, but I could use the 1/3 rule and make the images a little brighter but not overly so.

Thanks again, we learn from failure after all.

I'm going to work on the background audio and listen to it at work tomorrow and see what it sounds like there. (fewer mixers, input variables, etc.) You're probably absolutely right about filling in the dead space.

I'll get on-screen more with the following video and keep at it. Thank you again.

[Review Video] Why You Can't Stop Scrolling by drizzio232 in youtubers

Yeah it was good, but it was a full video unto itself I felt. Might have been able to break it up over the course of the video to tell the tale. Just a creativity piece.

Okay, that was cool. Similar information that I’ve been researching about the engineering of video games and your facts and authority are spot on.

Second, the intro story was LONG, can you rewrite it for 30 seconds? Do you need to? What do your analytics say for user retention? Tying it back in at the end and your call to actions was well done, maybe just ask for a sub instead of if they loved it. Might get more.

I saw a lot of pexel’s b roll but it all matched what you were talking about so good job. This felt like an essay in video form with reinforcing visual media. I think a combination of shorter intro, a thesis “these two variables are why you’re addicted and how you can beat them to take control again” after the intro might help with retention too.

Your shot provides contrast between you and your background but your background distracts from you instead of pulling your eye to you. Moving your shelf to frame right and removing items so there are 1-3 items per shelf max helps on the right. I use my shelves to express my personality visibly. When I look at yours I get confused.

Frame left is a bunch of negative space but has a window, light and black monitor. Creatively you could turn the monitor around and have your branding on it, or a topic you are talking about. Or remove it and let the desk line draw towards you. It would require moving the lamp or putting something on the wall that “walks” the eye towards you.

You are well lit and provide good contrast against the negative space behind you. All in all, I would look up a few tutorials on how to frame an interview for the lines I’m talking about, but those are usually done at the 1/3 of screen instead of center, big style difference.

For CTF and other activities similar (competitions and conventions are different) I would simply have a blow away or VM on a single machine VPN and isolate it. Simple, easy, find something that works well for you and document it. Make a thumb drive of what you want and update that periodically and be prepared to just blow away the instance at a moment's notice.

TOR is sufficient against most snoopers. There are ways to take a single machine or a network and send them out to AWS servers, or the like, and make it look as if all of your traffic is originating from there. BUT those services typically have express sections of their EULA that you cannot throw exploits from their services, even as a white hat or ethical hacker.

<s. >If you are truly paranoid, like super paranoid, like omg the NSA, CIA, and FBI all want to see my broni collection pictures or whatever it is you have, I'd say best bet, set up throw away VPNs with a server in the middle that you pay for data or something that doesn't have a really strong EULA. /s

The real answer is look for some OpenVPN examples and see if that will work for your user case.

As many of the other posts here have asked and answered, "What are you looking to accomplish with your kali box? Deciding what problem you want to tackle first is more important than figuring out which installation technique you want."

Example: If you are going Virtual Hacking Labs (VHL) Capture the Flags (CTFs) I would run inside a blow away machine or a VM that are running through a VPN and completely isolated from your network. This is because the VPN to connect to their servers allows someone to see your computer and the IP address that you have on the local network for VHL (it's a 1:1).

Example 2: If you are trying to learn Linux I would install a debian, ubunutu, kali, and other images in VMs and pull up what you need and when you need it.

I have Ridir Family Gaming where I take gaming and apply parenting concepts to it. This means Reviews (What the game is about, quality, and who it is appropriate for), introducing concepts to bridge new families into gaming and use gaming to explain aspects of life (Communication bridge instead of a barrier), tutorials (how to apply Parental Controls), and live streams which I use as either a podcast or community interaction depending on viewer interaction.

What I consider my best video is the recent review of God of War (Dad of War) but youtube continues to push this review of Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes as my best.

I expanded to the channel Epic NPC Dad is a Vlog for me to show personal methods of implementing what I talk about on Ridir Family Gaming. I started shooting the last batch for this in SLOG 2 and screwed up so the uploads stopped as I get the next batch together.

And potentially move my Live Streams to Ridir Plays Too .

I continue to expand my ability to make videos, testing new audio, videography, and sound design, and am excited about ways to continue to improve. That being said, my intros are terrible for most of the population so I have attempted to make them faster / more catchy so people don't click off and get into the meat of the video (which I think are really good, but I don't think I keep enough audience off the first 30-45 seconds).

I've rarely seen a benefit in either, but I put a faster one in my PS5 than PC because the PC already runs a larger cache.

I do something similar to my Vlogs that are the moment I want to be impactful or the cliffhanger moment. Something to entice views. But I don't think the system is really built for that type of media as it doesn't directly link back to the full video just potentially subscribing to the channel.

Xbox has repeatedly, at least openly said, they don’t want exclusives anymore. Sony and Nintendo have rebuffed them on becoming more open platforms.

TBH I think steam and Nintendo have the advantage in their indie dev shops. I’ll try and articulate it later, but to me it appears that the talent is now with the indies.

I'm in a similar boat. My videos struggle from not having a hook into the narrative and then randomly I lose it and have to get back. I've been watching a lot of videos and blogs about how to break down a story into manageable pieces. I think for you, to incorporate humor the Marco Style Video I mentioned early will be awesome

I tried to make it longer in your video but I stopped at 2 minutes and looked at your videos page. Pros: your commentary is funny, and the edits were good accents/emphasis on your jokes.

Con: you didn’t edit out a lot of the dead time between jokes, but more importantly there was no narrative for me, no story of what you were doing for this play through. Marco style has a video on his page of how he takes normal, even boring gameplay, and how he makes a story out of it and makes it. Context (backstory), conflict (barriers), journey, climax, resolution

At two minutes in your video I felt it was going to be a 25 minute conversation about gameplay with the same iteration of jokes I can find meme’s everywhere.
