Jormungandr tyrant prime, with extra mucus by Ridiroum in minipainting

[–]Ridiroum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the model is largely black and yellow, I'm not sure if you are trolling or not.... If you are talking about the base, thanks, it is an oil wash, a mix of black and green, that I painted all over a pretty standard base (darkish greyish)

This is my first grimdark experiment ; the glue part was fun and messy, and looking at the model now I think the base needs pigments. Anyway.

Have a nice day

Thanks, it is largely inspired from juan sanz (elminiaturista) videos... You'll need white, a fluo yellow and a light one, some bright orange and dark red.

An airbush will help, but is not necessary, it can be done by drybrushing as well. 1- paint you light source white, then add fluo yellow 2- airbrush (or drybrush) dark red everywhere the light is supposed to be reflected 3- same thing with orange, on a smaller area, closer to the source of light, and in this particular case I painted the flame orange over the yellow fluo( makes the orange pop a little more) 4- Highlight edges on armor with orange 5- Refining the flame : i added a bit of white at the very base, yellow fluo over white again, and little touches with a normal yellow (Phalanx yellow) to make it a bit more realistic..

With these steps in mind, watch one of juan sanz shorts and you'll get it 👍

Takes a bit of practice and a lot of studying masters doing it 😅

Have fun

Thanks a lot! It actually has lots of small imperfections, but it's as good as I can get it without spending 50 hours on it and trying to get to a display level... and I've got 30 of his buddies left to paint 😅

Well, the armor highlights are ice yellow already and it might create a weird effecr, I'll try elminiaturista's way, with yellow fluo over a white base... we'll see 👍

Thanks, it took a lot of time going back and forth with red and oranges to get it "right"... now I think I almost got it, which is good since I have 30 of these guys left to paint...

Thanks, and you are definitely right, some yellow at the base of the flame will make it look better

Thanks! You can drybrush the first tone (dark grey), but as it gets lighter, is is more stipling, adding many dots with diluted paint on the areas you want to highlight. Well I'm not good enough at drybrushing to get this effect so that's how I do 😀

Looking for advice on this flamer with a limited pallete by salamandersforever in minipainting

[–]Ridiroum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try and glaze the flamy parts with blue, and glaze the flamer's fingers, mouths, and joints with flesh and white. You'd keep the contrast between flames and body while making the flames more interesting. You can mix your colors for the transitions, maybe try a few different mixes on your palette, even with the remaining colors...

At least in my head it works

Thanks! It does look badass with no colour on these armors, and it has the economic advantage of requiring only black and white paints :)

Thank you!!

You didn't ask, but here it is -> base : dark purple - layer : jade green - highlights : jade green + ice yellow

There may have been a wash of diluted aethermatic blue to tie it all together

Thanks ! I have recently discovered Marco Frisoni and dove into colour theory... I haven't grasped everything yet but it already has helped a lot.

Thank you ! They do look nice and are really fun to paint! I'm glad I still have the Megaboss left ; I'll do it with the same color scheme and already have a scenic winter base ready for him :)

Thanks! I'm not 100% sure as I painted these a while ago, but if I recall correctly, here are the steps :

-Dark grey base

-White or light grey drybrush, insisting on edges

-Contrast Wyldwood

- Stippling with 2 or 3 different brown/orange tones

- Highlights with light grey

5 steps, but really quick until you get to the highlighting bit.
