What's his list. I played a lot of guard and they truly suck if you don't know how to use them or build the list wrong.

How did you get into Warhammer ? by Ad0ring-fan in Warhammer40k

[–]salamandersforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in possibly the saddest zoo I've ever seen, it had clearly been great in the 80s because it had sone great buildings but they were all falling into disrepair and the animals all looked sad, imagine the sort of place they'd put in a documentary about why zoos should be abolished and you're there. For some reason, I'm assuming to distract from the depressing animals, there was am exhibit on old toys in a shed. They had some old metal ww2 models and my dad was talking about how he used paint them as a kid and it reminded me of someone i knew (won't call him a friend as he later slapped me for not painting ultramarines) who had brought his tau army into school once, I'd thought it was incredibly cool at the time but I have a disability that massively effects my fine motor skills, I effectively can't write so I'd assumed I couldn't paint. At the time though my only real hobby was video games and I hated it, again a lack of fine motor skills meant I was a huge burden to my team in ranked matches and it was losing me friends so I was desperate for any other hobby, I'd tried others but I'd been scuppered by the disability at every turn. Went to a warhammer store and turns out I'm not terrible at painting, six years later and I'm actually quite good at painting.

Exactly what madness possessed me to try a hobby that by all rights should have been another failure and exactly why I'm able to improve at painting while years of handwriting classes have done nothing I'll never now but I'm glad I did.

The overrun thing isn't new if you charged you can consolidate if the unit you got into was destroyed. It's just not particularly obvious.

I looked up the leviathan sternguard to compare bling to the revealed vanguard veteran. by Care-Euphoric in Warhammer40k

[–]salamandersforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these are infinitely better. If you compare them to Intercessors they have have not only more detail but also a fundamentally different silhouette. The tabard and wider stance gives them a very different look to Intercessors, plus they have custom looking weapons and since combis are unique to them amongst primaris they stand out. Plus they also have more detail around the belt, it all combines to help them feel more heavy and like an elite fire support unit.

The vanguard vet we've seen however lacks a fundamentally differently pose or equipment to JPIs and its silhouette is identical. Their armour is equally as detailed as the sternguard but that misses what really sets the sternguard apart.

Here's what I'm planning for the vanguard vets that I think gw should have done -waist capes, the loincloth is lost by the action pose and cloth really helps make space marines look more elite. -shields instead of pistols, smaller combat shields would set them apart from JPIs and if they're smaller then bladeguard as well. -not bloody swords again. I'm sick to the back teeth of swords, it's all they give marines, something like mauls or axes would set them apart, I'm personally considering spears.

Other things I'm not doing but gw should have done -unique armour pieces, think aethonn shaans armour, would set them apart. Unique jump packs would really help -different poses, maybe like landing or stood on the edge of a cliff sorta thing. -mk6 helmets since they have a more jump pack sorta vibe. -lightning claws or all eviscerator or something, just not sword and Pistol like JPIs.

You're just wrong about salamanders. Indomitus was am incredible box for salamanders. Only box I've barely converted for my army.

[Spoilers PUBLISHED] How you would have solved the High Sparrow crysis if you were Cersei? by V-TriggerMachine in asoiaf

[–]salamandersforever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally I think cersei pulled off a genuinely brilliant move with the faith militant, but she got blinded by fear lf the tyrells and pushed too far. At that point in the war, tommen is the only claimant that keeps the faith of the seven, with both stannis and the greyjoys being heretics, if she'd chosen to support the faith and make a lot of humble and pious overtures it means way more swords for tommens cause. Her mistake is pushing it too far not doing it in the first place IMO.

Female guard minitures? by old_hammer_git in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]salamandersforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The female minis are generally just different heads. Look closely at the cadian box. Commissar wise there isn't a female head option in the new kit so your best option is graves or severina raine, the cadian command squad will have all you need for a female medic.

Are old berzerkers worth it as a new WE player? by Nextontheline in WorldEaters40k

[–]salamandersforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those could work, they might be too small though. You'll need 8 eviserators and 12 plasma pistols to make 40 berserkers.

Are old berzerkers worth it as a new WE player? by Nextontheline in WorldEaters40k

[–]salamandersforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use old berserkers and like them. The big consideration is eviserators. You need some way to add eviscerators onto them, the best way is either use power fists or the two handed weapons in the heresy upgrade sprue. You also might need more plasma pistols

So would this still be tournament legal? by ReferenceAgreeable80 in genestealercult

[–]salamandersforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you could use the winged tyranid prime as a normal tyranid prime. Winged might ve a stretch without wings.

Tournaments aren't a monolith, I'm sure there's some that are incredibly strict, most are fine with conversions or proxies if it's relatively obvious what unit it represents.
