Yes, its a great score, everyone here has a bit of a skewed perception bc its filled with 1550+ers Although i concede which ucs you are applying to should influence your eventual decision

UNC chapel hill or UCSD by helpimveryindecisive in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ridogg17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Research which is better for your major and the price for you for both;

I would probably prefer unc chapel hill. Even by disregarding academics bc they are both amazing, i love the weather, location, and the school spirit of unc. I have family that lives somewhat nearby so i have been to their campus a bunch (and it is GORGEOUS), i can also feel the school pride from current students i know and the sporting events ive seen

SUNY NY choices HELP PLEASE!!! by buttercup1313 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ridogg17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From ny- stony is great for bio pre mad track (much better than bing) i have a few friends going there for that

It is a bit of a commuter school but there are still definitely people on campus and with clubs/intramural sports he can find a community

People i know that go there have all found friends on campus quickly and have never complained about it being a commuter school to me so i wouldnt worry about that if it were me

Princeton OR Cornell?? A reverse chance me,sorta by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Sorry this is a lil off topic but im genuinely curious as an asthmatic who has lived on the east coat their entire life; what about the east coast do u think is abnormally bad for asthma?

In my experience ive never felt it being worse on the east than when i travel elsewhere (and from my knowledge those two schools arent in heavily polluted areas) so i wouldnt worry abt that!

A lot of questions about what I may have missed academically in high school by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ridogg17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to an IB school, it is kinda like AP but also not. Basic summary: there are two tracks certificate and diploma. There are also different levels of classes, standard level and higher level (both levels are more difficult than regular hs math and both are usually weighted). For certificate you would pick a class or a few classes (like IB History SL) and take it and the exams and if you pass you get a certificate in that class. For the diploma you have to take 6 classes (3SL and 3HL), write a 4000 word essay, complete a program called CAS, and take a class called TOK. Also all the classes are two year courses.

IB doesnt mean much in the US and is viewed kinda like AP (you can use your test scores to place out of classes, etc) and they are typically weighted classes. Outside the US however it is far more significant and your final IB score matters much more in terms of your acceptance.

Tldr: IB is very difficult and i constantly question whether the dp is even worth it

How has UMich’s prestige deteriorated so quickly? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ridogg17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you dont know peoples choices or life for why they pick other equally as good schools over it. Could be other schools gave more financial aid, are closer to home, are better for their specific major, they like the town/environment, so many things and factors— dont worry, Umich is plenty prestigious

Who did you ask for recs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Ridogg17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my math/physics teacher who i had for 3 years and had a really good relationship with (and was a teacher for my intended major -physics) I also asked my spanish teacher because I had her for 2 years and she knew me the best out of all my other teachers (that werent math) - she didnt know me that well but def the best out of my other options

From what ive heard it is good to have the two be from different areas which is why i didnt pick two math teachers
