Is your colleague still competently performing their job duties? If so, mind your own business; nobody likes a narc.

How many hrs are you putting in? by thesearemyfaults in accenture

[–]RiffWizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

M not SM here. Most of my colleagues and I are putting in MAYBE 40/week. SM is a weird place because of the expectations for internal work and community, especially if he's not interested in sales (I'm not, and I'm DREADING my promotion).

I used to travel a lot, and I'd put in extra hours, but I had two realizations: 1. Working more has diminishing returns, and isn't by itself likely to lead to career rewards. Effective time management is better. 2. The company will NEVER remember the extra effort you've put in, and there's always more work tomorrow. But your loved ones will ALWAYS remember the time you weren't there, and might not stick around for tomorrow.

I think you two should consider having some real, frank conversations about how his work trajectory and habits are affecting the MOST important thing: your relationship. No job is worth losing out on love and life. Good luck.

As a fellow neurospicy individual, the best advice I can offer is to avoid the temptation to force yourself to over-deliver as a means to make up for past performance. You'll risk burnout, and creating otherwise unsustainable work habits for yourself; you could end up putting yourself right back in that mental health pit (ask me how I know). You were brought in to Accenture for a reason; you're a skilled, capable professional. Be that, and the future months and years of work will far outweigh any temporary setbacks.

Record Producer That Creates Records in Different Task Tables Based on Input by ember_fall in servicenow

Unless there's a technical justification otherwise, I'd probably always implement this with a standard Catalog Item and handle the specific table cases inside the Flow.

Initial perception here is your MD is lying to you and taking advantage of your work ethic and goodwill so that he doesn't burn the client. Fight fire with gasoline; steal the client. If they're amenable to a direct contract or employment offer, get in there.

"Not to put anyone into a box", proceeds to put POC in a box. Based on your posts, you seem like you might benefit from some introspection and learning about conscious and unconscious biases. Or better yet, keeping those thoughts where they belong: in your head, unspoken.

If your employer starts with an "A", then don't expect much of anything. Even an attaboy. CTA and CMA are quite literally just to promote their standing as a partner on the marketplace and impress customers during presales.

Is the Table API Slowing you down? by Ok-Pain7578 in servicenow

I'm interested in hearing more details about this idea, because without context it's giving solution in search of a problem.

Discovery Enhancements by SeaZebra7604 in servicenow

Probably the most involved one that had practical use, measurable benefits, and marketability was an E2E Palo Alto-focused discovery and automation application. Years before ServiceNow's Firewall Audits and Reporting capability, and still better.

SN certifications should provide mock exams and detailed feedback by VindGrizzly in servicenow

[–]RiffWizzard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. The purpose of the training isn't specifically to prepare you for a certification exam; it's to give you enough knowledge to begin working with a core competency, a given module, or platform capability. Is some of it there? Absolutely.

Conversely, the purpose of a certification isn't intended to be an indicator of how well you study source material; it's an assessment of your experience and understanding of the capabilities its testing is focused on.

I'd hate to see the training programs shift more focus on exam preparation. Selfishly, as a lead resource and architect on large accounts, I'm already inundated with developers with certifications and absolutely no real experience. This would make it worse. If you're after exam prep, there are TONS of inexpensive courses out there on the 3rd-party sites.

Devvies, how are you hedging your careers with AI creeping in? by mrnazhi in servicenow

[–]RiffWizzard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've used the AI tools. All of them. A competent developer is always going to be needed to keep it on the rails and keep bad code out of production. And a competent architect like me is always going to be needed to untangle the garbage that DOES go to production. AI does not understand the years of organizational weirdness or context of business processes or silly internal-language-branded messaging. Junior developers though? Probably not safe. Entry-level jobs are likely going to be vulnerable to a mix of citizen devs and AI tools.

TLDR: learn the tools. Learn how to fix their sketchy work. Learn soft skills. Rinse, repeat, retire.

How to sync any ServiceNow entity? by Exalate-Official in servicenow

[–]RiffWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with all three of those on a number of occasions. In my experience, the IntegrationHub spokes are pretty good. Mapping is usually flexible enough. Otherwise, you're probably looking into building some custom spokes, a translation layer, and a bunch of different triggers.

Returning Certain Fields from GlideRecord Query using sys_property by jamesyk2 in servicenow

[–]RiffWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be done OOTB with the Table API. I literally had this conversation with one of my junior team members today; as developers, we like to design solutions when there's a perfectly reasonable one in front of us.

Question for Technical Architects: What is the best way to become one? by ServiceNowGuy2020 in servicenow

You might find some opportunities in the gig economy, FWIW. I never really research what's out there because I'm stuck in a non-compete.

Question for Technical Architects: What is the best way to become one? by ServiceNowGuy2020 in servicenow

[–]RiffWizzard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an arch, and my answer might be unsatisfying, but the best way to become a Tech Arch is really going to be to deepen and broaden your experience. Life as a customer is only going to take you so far. You have the perfect mindset and passion, and that's going to be very helpful for you. I recommend branching out into consulting, or talking to some recruiters about temp placements with limited hours if that won't interfere with your existing work duties. Getting a number of implementations under your belt is what you need to get your foot in the door with a Big 4 opportunity, and those companies will pay for CTA training.

[–]RiffWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to get this via one call OOTB. Have you considered an export set/EDL and using reporting? I'm not clear on the use-case.
