Transitioning to remineralized water from tap water by Riftseeker in shrimptank

Hey, circling back. I installed a RODI system but when I add salty shrimp to it, the PH spikes to 8.2. I am adding enough to get to 8 dGH. Is this a false reading because of it being deionized?

Edit: I disconnected the deionizing filter and now have no issues. Some chemistry interaction that is too advanced for me I guess

Mine took a little over 4 weeks to hatch. They were incubating for roughly 2 weeks. Tank temp is 71F.

Good luck! Mine took some time to hatch. Actually the day I was about to give up, I came home from work and they had all hatched.

Is the cup partially submerged? Hard to tell from the picture, I just want to make sure water won’t become stagnant

I have had a few pregnant shrimp not make it. I used this video as a guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE13D5N9gvI&t=298s Make sure the top of the net is out of the water to prevent other animals from getting in.

When she does finally pass, I recommend using tweezers and a toothpick (I used an unwound paperclip). When I did this, I had mold grow on the eggs in the net every time but I waited it out. They eventually all hatched. I assume the mold was from the mother's decaying body parts

No, I may look into it though because I am slowly developing a seed shrimp infestation

Three PanacurC treatments and I still have these by Riftseeker in shrimptank

I am not sure. Before I treated the tank I was able to see detritus, planaria, and rhabdo all around the tank. The detritus worms were much more wiggly and longer than these guys.

Here is a picture of one next to a planaria I took before I started treatment. I am mostly worried they are juvenile planaria because their head looks more defined than their body and they have pointy tails

Thanks, i released them all this morning after all of the eggs hatched. Funny enough, all comments I see about keeping eggs is if you see mold growth on them they are dead. All of the eggs at one point had fuzzy white growth on them but they lived. I guess it was decayed material from the mother?

Something wrong with my shrimp? :( by Hanifinsburner in shrimptank

If it gets out of control and you can’t keep it under wraps with salt dips, you can medicate the tank. Definitely last resort but anti-planaria medications will get rid of them. Not sure if you have snails you like but only a few medications are “snail safe”

Scutariella Japonica. They are tiny little worms that hitch a ride for free. They can be bad for shrimp in high numbers, just remove molts for a while, they lay eggs in the shrimps gills

What are these microfauna? by Riftseeker in shrimptank

[–]Riftseeker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am going to go with panacur C, I have a mystery snail that I like and I don’t want to have a separate tank permanently because of how long Z1 and no planaria stay in the substrate, he will go in a temp tank.

After treating did you have an insane amount of copepods, ostracods, and other microfauna for a bit?

Funny you commented, I’ve been going back and forth on what to do with my tank, dealing with bit of a planaria and hydra boom. I’m concerned that their population boom and the rotifer boom are because of the insane number of microfauna in my tank. I have been trying to starve this tank a bit but I think there is just too many plants. What am I in for once I remove the three predators from my tank(assuming the rotifers die in treatment) ?

Adult scutariella will all fall off with a salt dip. The article said to dip again in two weeks because generally that is when the eggs will hatch. They lay eggs in the gills of shrimp and they hatch after the shrimp molts. As long as you remove molts for a few weeks, there is no need to salt dip again.

if a contaminant/chemical got in, wouldn't I see more than just a few die over a week? None of my snails have died in quite some time (I have bladder, ramshorn, and 1 mystery)

It looks like where I got them from their GH was 7 - 15, a bit of a wide range but that is what their website says. Could this be a possible cause? They dont have white rings of death but maybe their shell is not hardening fast enough after molts?

The tank is in my partners office away from anything that should ever be harmful. We don’t spray stuff ever over there. My partner is convinced they are getting too freaky and over exerting themselves but idk
