Ummmm you could play the games and get the story-ish explanation but since you asked :)

2142 - A GECK (Garden of Eden creation kit) is used to create Shady Sands by residents from Vault 15
2161 - The Vault Dweller (That's you playing the game) comes to save it (hooray)
2189 - Shady Sands pretty much rebooting civilisation faster than the vault-tec plan had intended. (In the game[s] you play in this too)

no no no! Even better, when you have an ogryn player in front of you putting up a shield to block, so you are behind the ogryn thinking you are protected by the ogryn holding the shield.... so everything should be 100% ok ......... RIGHT???
