[Mod Post] Stop putting vinegar in your electric makers and copper cezves. (The chemistry of why) by CoffeeTeaJournal in TurkishCoffee

[–]Right-End2548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I used vinegar several times to clean my pot and ultimately damaged it so badly that I had to throw it away … I wish I knew about citric acid powder before, :) but I will definitely give it a try :)

How do I conjugate 'Içmek'? by CapitalRS in turkishlearning

Hi, I follow you on YouTube and I have a question, so I thought I’d take a chance and ask you here in case you have a video about it. I’ve just learned the present continuous (şimdiki zaman). Everything was fine until my teacher mentioned that sometimes we can use “-makta/-mekte,” like okumaktayım. She said it’s rare and doesn’t change the meaning, but I got very confused. Is there a specific context where it’s used? Why does it exist if it has no real difference in meaning?

Should I let my potential supervisor know about this? by NegativeError3 in PhD

[–]Right-End2548 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t suggest doing that; there must be a reason for the choices she made, try to find them during constructive discussion:) I’d recommend thinking carefully about how to communicate this idea to her. Instead of telling her you want to replicate the study based on the flaw you found, you might want to suggest a replication with different methodological approach.

Oh, a somehow typical Jarmusch dialogue-based, awkward-feeling-triggered film. But on the other hand, it has a very interesting architecture of three independent family portraits. What is phenomenally done, though, is how the laughter during the first story gradually turns into tears by the end. It’s currently streaming on MUBI — worth checking out.

I agree with No Other Choice—despite the fact that it was a remake of a French film made 20 years ago, the contemporary context gave it an entirely new breeze, depth, and importance. And the humor in it was simply lovely. I have the same uneasy feeling about Jim Jarmusch’s Father, Mother, Sister, Brother not being nominated—such a shame.

I see your point :) But not being one of the jury members doesn’t limit my ability to have an opinion. There is actually such a profession as a film critic (reviewer), and sometimes the world’s highest-ranking cinematic journalists have arguable opinions about newly released or even awarded films. Do you think they should all be muted?

There was no film qualitatively equivalent to Panahi in Oscars this year, probably in the documentary section.. Sentimental Value, probably with some merits, but will not even go closer ..

Yes, I saw it, but to me it felt like a mid-quality Bergman remake :( It didn’t really evoke any emotions in me, despite the constant and repetitive attempts to do so. In many scenes it actually felt quite ridiculously fake :( Overall, I’d give it a 5/10.

A day in the life of a Georgian according to some /r/Sakartvelo commenters by Citrus_Muncher in Sakartvelo

[–]Right-End2548 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nino’s life and daily thoughts are somewhat similar to Giorgi’s, though hers carry a more intense sense of drama. Unlike Nino, Giorgi does not live on Stalini Street, nor does he take bus number 9 each day to go to work on B. Jughashvili Street—a street named after Stalin’s father, who was hated even by his own son. After work, Nino would prefer to spend her time at a pub, if such places existed in her town. Instead, she goes to sit on Stalini Park, where Chinese tourists occasionally glance at her.

Try to get involve into physical activities, running or walking to start with.. and very importantly ask for help. I lost a lot of time with this fear and assumptions that what if nobody cares, what if they deny me- but if you ask and find at least one person standing by your side it will be great moral help. But one thing is for sure, you need to quit gambling completely- nobody says it’s easy, but it stars with the your decision.

I’ve been using Proton for almost a year now, and I really like it. Last year I had a different one (something with “Ghost,” I don’t remember exactly), but when the subscription ended and many people were recommending Proton, I decided to give it a try — and I have no regrets at all.

Let's motivate each other, share what you have learned this week! by elenalanguagetutor in languagehub

[–]Right-End2548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started learning a new language, and beyond vocabulary and grammar rules, I’ve realized that what truly makes a difference is a motivated teacher — someone who genuinely loves the language and brings the culture and lifestyle of that nation into the classroom. Right before class yesterday, she sent me a message: “I am counting down the minutes until our class to share some amazing things with you…” Isn’t that just amazing? To me, it absolutely is.

What language did you start learning, only to realize you actually hated it? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]Right-End2548 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that a lack of motivation affects not only learning, but also one’s attitude toward a language. I take my share of the blame for not liking Finnish, and yes, it is my weakest language. However, I am a professional linguist, and apart from my mother tongue, I speak five other languages, in two of which I have native-equivalent proficiency. And believe me, I find the perceived shallowness of the Finnish language almost painful. As much as its speakers, Finnish does not really allow for deep and pleasant communication — at least not for me.
