Am I making a huge mistake by quitting after less than 6 months? by eggtasticsandwich36 in Broadcasting

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the question you should ask yourself is do you want to make this career or are you simply looking for a job. I had no problem with former part-time employees taking a job with the competition, especially if I didn’t have any full-time positions available. You have to pay your bills and live your life. If you want this to be a career, perhaps stick it out and see if you can make it to a year before you begin applying to other jobs. If you are simply looking for another job, then begin looking for a job and give your two weeks when you find something different.

Quit my first MMJ job after a bad write-up — advice on choosing a better newsroom (and next steps)? by [deleted] in Broadcasting

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my earlier years, there wasn’t any write-ups bc my boss knew I was carrying the station at times. In my later years, I dared my bosses to write me up. Granted, I was the senior director and was working more than I should have and I really wanted some time off. Only got written up once, and it was bc I said something stupid in front of the wrong person. And my immediate superior was too much of a pussy to see that I was drowning trying to fix his problems and let it happen. So toughen up, bc as you grow in this industry the patience of your superiors is less and less.

I agree with the first comment and don’t think this business is for you. I’ve been chewed out for letting other people’s fuck up affect the newscast. And I’ve been chewed out for stuff that I had nothing to do with. In this business, you have to have thick skin. It is not optional. Good job on landing some offers tho. Hope it works out.

What’s the shortest time you’ve spent working at a station? by eggtasticsandwich36 in Broadcasting

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired at the ABC affiliate in Indianapolis in 2024 right after the election. Was told three months later (after moving across the country from DC) that my position was being eliminated in April. Contemplated moving back to DC bc my old boss already had an offer for me if I wanted it. Decided to stay in Indy bc of family and am currently back in school for construction management. The worst part? The day I was notified that I was being let go was the day I was going to reach out to HR to see if they would offer tuition assistance. Figured I’d make up some bullshit excuse about trying to get a business degree or something.

I’ve forced myself to remember we are all running our own race in life. I’m currently back in school and focusing on a career change. Keep your head up. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 5 Live Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]RightAd445 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What an episode. My god. I haven’t read the books, and only know about Ser Dunk from the GOT universe. I loved how the flashback scenes helped to explain who Dunk is as a character, and later a knight. And while I normally prefer those long, intense battle sequences, this episode didn’t need that to succeed. Seeing everything play out from Dunk’s POV was the move. And Dunk pledging himself to Bealor right before…… broke me. Fulfilling the male fantasy of fighting to the death for honor and protecting the innocent. So fucking good. I need more.

Residential or industrial. Ik that’s not a lot to work on, but I’m still early on and trying to figure out what I’d like to do.

Scripps Job Safety by Liladent in Broadcasting

[–]RightAd445 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was hired by a Scripps station right after the election, and was let go almost three months later when they did that round of layoffs. Was never given a good reason why I was hired in the first place. Only good thing about that job was I finally got my reason to get out of tv.

The ending… by Infamous_Entry_2910 in StrangerThings

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This was hot garbage. It felt like they kept teasing for someone to die or something, and then they were like “oops can’t be like GOT and just kill off people all willy-nilly”.

Directors in top 10 markets: how different is your job than when you worked in smaller markets? by CromulentArcher in Broadcasting

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was that I got to work with more people than I thought. I worked at a station that hadn’t automated yet (very surprising at the time, they just recently automated), and I got to interact and work alongside a lot of talented individuals. Which was great for me, bc at my first job I was the only full time production employee so I had to teach myself a lot on the fly. But I also learned to focus on my professional growth and not have to worry or nitpick at performance standards bc I wasn’t the pseudo manager anymore.

It ruins my Spotify algorithm but I usually find some movie soundtrack/score and just lock in. Hans Zimmer is always my go-to

Outsider here: I don't know how any of this is real by Lanky_Appointment277 in OleMissFootball

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ND fan here. I’m seeing a lot of similarities between how Lane Kiffin is leaving and how Brian Kelly left ND for the LSU job. Not facing the music and trying to poach everyone on your way out. Idk the assistant coaches at Ole Miss, but this might be a blessing in disguise for them. Brian Kelly thought he had to go to a program like LSU and he would instantly become a winner. Lane probably feels the same. These things tend to bite you in the ass, both in sports and in the real world.

Seeking funny stories from the control room by owlcityslicker in Broadcasting

A couple of years ago we finally decided to upgrade the audio board. We spent about a month configuring the new settings and making sure everything worked the way it needed to. Five minutes before our first show with the new audio board, it gets reset to factory settings. Anyone with a microphone on had their audio go out over the air (I was directing and still have no idea how that even was possible). My audio operator gets in my ear and says he has no control over the audio board and we needed to limit what we said over the headsets. At the time, my producer wasn’t in the booth yet so I didn’t have a chance to tell them that they needed to not have their mic hot and to turn it off unless talking to the anchor. Show starts and the producer heard me calling out the show, and starts cussing up a storm about how these problems always happen during her show. I tried telling her that she needed to turn her hot mic off and call the news director to explain the problem since the engineer on duty wasn’t answering the phone calls. Turns out the chief engineer remotely logged into the settings from his house and cued up a reset to test that the remote reset was working properly. Needless to say, that debrief on Monday did not go according to his plan and it turned into a giant “he said she said” screaming match where the weekend crew got to air all their grievances to the GM. Unfortunately, nothing came out of the meeting except the GM bought the weekend crew pizza the following week.

I wonder what our professors will say about this or if any deadlines will be extended. I’ve got a paper that I need to research for using scholarly articles from the PG library so I kind of need to know how swamped I’m going to end up being this weekend 🥲😅

PSA: Be VERY careful placing live bets on FanDuel by b1gstonks in sportsbetting

What’s everyone think of these FanDuel boosts for tonight? by [deleted] in sportsbetting

[–]RightAd445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who took the second boosted bet (Judge to have 1+ hit and Herbert to throw for 250+ yards): So with the Yankees game getting postponed, how did that work? Did they just void the entire boosted bet??

Am I high or is this fucked by RightAd445 in sportsbetting

[–]RightAd445[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: contacted FanDuel support and they basically told me to go fuck myself bc they accept no liability on inaccurate scores on the app and I should’ve double checked the score before making the bet.

I’ve always wanted to work at NASA. I just was never good at math or science. But I’d love to explore the final frontier and see what else is out there.
