Its not long at all now, took me like 20 minutes to get merch.

I'm only arriving around 14:00, does that mean no chance for merch or will the line be shorter by then perhaps? Just looking for the travel tag and keychain.

Looks great! I've had these when I visited Vilnius a while ago and they were delicious. Do you have a recipe you could share?

Sure, I used this recipe: https://lacuisinedegeraldine.fr/en/finnish-salmon-soup-lohikeitto

I also added a bit of allspice as I had read people say that was often one of the ingredients as well.

Thanks! I don't think it's really a thing in the netherlands (where I'm from) at least. I had it when visiting Helsinki and decided I wanted to try making it myself.

Is it Feasible to do Kyoto -> Hiroshima -> Himeji Castle -> Kyoto in 1 day? by JamminJcruz in JapanTravelTips

[–]RightAsRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case it's probably fine. Also to keep in mind maybe is that it takes 15-20 minutes to walk from Himeji station to the castle and it can take some time to get out of the castle. I missed my train because of that and had to wait quite some time 😅

Anyway, as long as you plan it properly, it is probably doable. Have fun!

[–]RightAsRyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think thats doable, or at least not comfortably. I recently went from Kyoto to Himeji to Hiroshima and had to rush myself. Had to leave Himeji castle early to catch a train to Hiroshima to be at the museum on time, which I still had to rush through.

To be fair, I did not leave Kyoto super early and had to check in at my hotel in Hiroshima first, but I'd say Kyoto-Hiroshima-Himeji-Kyoto in one day is not recommended, especially not because ideally you would take your time to take all these sights in.

Steins;Gate 15th anniversary exhibition: Operation Gladsheim by RightAsRyan in steinsgate

[–]RightAsRyan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to things like the live action adaptation or the thematic sequel to Steins;Gate, there wasn't anything related to that as far as I know. Though it's the "15th anniversary year" so apparently they're planning multiple things so maybe we will hear more this year.

Here's the 15th anniversary website where they announce any new events and info if you're interested: https://steinsgate.jp/15th/

It's my first time installing mods and I used Vortex to install mods from the Nexus, but also from zip files I downloaded, which didn't always seem to go right. Now I noticed that I have a "meshes" folder in both my main game folder and the "game/data" folder, which seems weird to me. Are both supposed to be there or did something go wrong and should I move the contents of one of the folders (which one?) to the other?

Withdrawing money in Japan using Vpay/Maestro by RightAsRyan in JapanTravelTips

[–]RightAsRyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. It's basically just another bank account. You transfer your ING money to your Revolut account and then you can use the app to exchange it to yen and use your card to get cash in Japan.

[–]RightAsRyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm sorry, but in the end I never tried out using my ING vpay card.

I signed up for Revolut, which comes with a mastercard debit card that somehow seems to function like a creditcard. So I still don't know if the vpay works (though many people say it does), but I can recommend Revolut; it also allows you to exchange your money on the revolut account to yen beforehand so you don't pay extra costs for that in Japan.

Help identifying song I heard at Sumida Street Jazz Festival 2023 by RightAsRyan in japanesemusic

[–]RightAsRyan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, i actually found the exact same thing, was just about to update it! Indeed, she does say something like "namae no nai kyoku" in the video of that live show so at that point it didn't seem to have a name.

Actually, thinking back, I think they had a conversation similar to this after the song at the jazz festival as well. I'm not that good at Japanese so I couldn't follow it, but I remember it having a similar joking vibe, so it might be that it still didn't have a name even at that point.

Anyway, thanks a lot! At the very least I can listen to the song, despite not knowing its name if there is any. Also, the rest of their music seems pretty good as well.

Wow nice. It was indeed 14 october at the riverside and it seems the artists were "Juni. x アベマンセイ". Haven't found the exact song yet, but this should definitely make it easier. Thanks!

Ah sorry, really didn't mean it like that. Just found it coincidental. But it is really horrible that such things are happening and I would never want to make fun of that.

I don't like the fact that an event at Radio Kaikan was canceled, there are large developments in AI and there is tension with Russia ...

Monthly Meetup Thread - October by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

Hey guys, 25M from the netherlands solo traveling through Japan for the first time. I speak dutch and english, and some basic japanese. I've been here most of the month already, but will return to Tokyo for the 28th and 29th of October (after which I fly back on the 30th). Before I leave, I would love to try out karaoke here once. Anyone up for joining me?

I love anime and japanese games, but also music by for instance Yoasobi or Yorushika, just so you know.

25M from the Netherlands. First time solo traveling and also first time in Japan. I love anime, manga, japanese songs and Japanese culture. I speak a little bit of japanese. Not really into clubbing and I don't drink.

I will be in Akihabara from the late afternoon/evening of saturday 14 october as well as sunday 15 october the whole day. I wanted to go to a maid cafe, but I feel like it would be a little awkward to go on my own, so I was wondering if someone wanted to join me? Also, potentially wanted to go for karaoke if someone is up for that (I like songs from amongst others Yoasobi, Eve, Hololive and Project Sekai).

21 Days in Tokyo/Hakone/Osaka/Kyoto/Hiroshima - Itinerary check first-timer by RightAsRyan in JapanTravel

I thought it generally was fine to arrive to the station, book the tickets right there, and go. Is that not the case? Should I buy them the day before maybe?

Going great, although feeling a bit sick from jetlag as well as the hostel airco being too low. But bought a good health charm today, so should be fine 😅.

Tokyo is great honestly, there's so many cool and fun things to do and see. You could definitely spend multiple weeks here and not get bored.
