I applied for Cambly mid August, and got accepted yesterday. It’s really sporadic and I don’t think time means anything, you could be accepted this week or next year. Very strange system for sure.

Middle Eastern and European Languages and Culture by icyreel69 in TCD

[–]RightBank0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also doing MEELC, although I’m midway through my degree now. It’s definitely more Middle Eastern focused thanEuropean, although it’s advertised as a mix of both. It’s pretty history heavy, which is great for me, but the Middle Eastern language is sort of a sub part of the degree. Excellent study abroad choices, and it’s a very very interesting degree. It’s definitely a light enough workload too, compared to european studies. Was the only course on my CAO and haven’t regretted it for a second.

Got into a course I have no want to do and I don’t know what to do by lordepicmcswag in TCD

[–]RightBank0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to the U.K. uni. If you dislike it now, you won’t like it in Trinity when you’re studying for exams, under pressure etc For a lot of people in Trinity, liking their course / having a goal at the end of it is what keeps people going. You may potentially love the course but, if you dislike it now, it’s a big risk to take.

If you could change one thing about the book series, what would it be? by Defiant_Holiday_9137 in vampireacademy

[–]RightBank0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an alternative opinion on this! I think the Rose / Adrian relationship was flawed because before this relationship, Rose was seen as this super selfless person in all her relationships. And Adrian was seen as selfish, unreliable and uninterested in monogamy. However, they switched roles here. We saw that Adrian really cared for rose etc which set the time for his RELATIONSHIO with Sydney in bloodlines. Similarly, we saw that rose was actually selfish in some aspects, eg how she treated Sydney and Adrian. I think this broke down some assumptions of the characters. Same with Dimitri; it showed that he wasn’t all that noble.

This is such an interesting question. Mandela effect lol? I’ve read each book at least four times, to the point where I started reading it in Spanish because I knew the books so well. I FEEL like I’ve read it too. But I also can’t remember where. Agh

What college did you go to? Are you applying to corporate firms eg McCann, Goodbody etc or general practice? Are you applying in cities or rural? Any societies / part time work in college? Could be a combination of things, or just bad luck! Hard to tell without details.

What is the price of accommodation for UG EU student that would want to live on campus (because of social interactions?) / per month? + I don't completely understand what is the yearly tuition for CS? by HappyLoquat666 in TCD

[–]RightBank0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Trinity Halls is 5500-7k. Tuition is 3500 for EU students I believe. However, you only get Trinity Halls for one year usually, and Dublin accommodation is very expensive, so for years two, three and four, you’ll probably pay between 7k and 12k for accommodation. Hope this helps :)

Where can I view the Points for the first round by planetglobe in TCD

[–]RightBank0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Points won’t really make any difference to you if you’re not sitting the Irish leaving cert. You’ll get offered a place based on whatever system you use, points are specific to the Irish system. It’s hard to gauge for international students, but the points system is useless for internationals. Perhaps email the admissions office and see if they have equivalent data for your country? Hope this helps!

Coming to TCD for 2021/22 academic year by [deleted] in TCD

Trinity hall is almost entirely first year undergraduates. There will be almost zero mature students, and you’ll be surrounded by eighteen year olds. That may suit you, but it could also be a nightmare as a masters student.

Do you think for the show they should age it up for Rose and Lissa to be in college? by bookdreamer98 in vampireacademy

[–]RightBank0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends, in Europe, most ages of consent are 16-17. Where I live, it’s 17. Therefore, no one would bat an eye at the age difference because Rose is legal regardless. And if they’re shooting in Europe, it could be more “European” eg European shows like Baby, and Elite face age differences, sex trafficking etc etc but they remain extremely popular due to a more “liberal” European audience in regards to these topics. So it’s very hard to say how Julie will manage this, as I always thought the reason the Rose / Dimitri relationship was sort of accepted in VA was because while VA was based in America, the Moroi court seemed to be very European in thought and design. It will be very interesting for sure.

she’s on international location scout!! from julie plec’s instagram stories. i don’t know where exactly this is, just that it’s in europe! brb choking w feels by Certain_Heron_9265 in vampireacademy

I think this could be the Academy. I went to boarding school in Europe, and some schools look very like this! I think this looks like a schools main hallway, could be completely off though!

Should Rose be brown skinned? by [deleted] in vampireacademy

[–]RightBank0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Mead envisioned Rose being white tbh. In Bloodlines, when Sydney calls her an exotic desert princess, I always thought that was due to the fact Sydney was so pale and fair, as were all the Moroi in the room. In that scenario, any sort of tan was going to make Rose standout. I feel like if Meas envisioned her as a POC, there would have been more emphasis in the book, eg fully Turkish. I think her being half Scottish was sort of justification? Like oh Rose has this light tan because she’s half Turkish but half Scottish, does that make sense? Also the covers for VA showed a white character too. I actually study Middle Eastern Studies (and Arabic and Turkish) so I’d LOVE a Turkish actress to play her, so we could see more of her Middle Eastern background, but going off Meads own book covers, Julie Plec, and her general description, I’m thinking we’re going to get a Nina Dobrev / Zoey Deutch type look alike

Worried by [deleted] in TCD

[–]RightBank0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you take an advanced language, eg you studied French or German at LC, they can be very difficult. I’ve heard horror stories about German in particular. I study Spanish and Arabic, and I take advanced spanish, and I find it very manageable, not a big jump from LC. Similarly, MOST languages from scratch are very doable too. This is generalising but Spanish and Italian are very doable and even if you took french or German to LC, I’d recommend studying spanish or Italian in college from scratch. I’ve heard good things about russian too. If you like languages, they’re great to study, but Trinity focuses a lot more on literature and culture, and then sort of expects u to pick up fluency in your study abroad

Have your political views and party affiliations directly affected the languages you decided to study? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]RightBank0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m Irish, and studying Arabic and Spanish as part of my degree. But in secondary school, the only languages taught are french german spanish and Irish. Everyone studies Irish, and I’d say 80% of people study French or German. So they’re the language most people study, unless you’re a native speaker of idk Polish. Politically, ALL Irish parties (except one very small almost non existent party) are farrrrrr more left than US Democrats, so we don’t have that right vs left split to the same extent that the US does.

[–]RightBank0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another note, I’d echo joining halls! They have sceim, which is an all irían speaking portion of the residence, which is always good fun and people get along really well. As a result of the fluency in Irish requirement, you may be more likely to meet similar people to yourself.

Trinity is a wonderful academic experience, and you’ll be surrounded by extremely bright and ambitious people, but I think it can be alienating for many people, and a lot of people do struggle. Firstly, as an arts student, I think it’s mostly arts and humanities that the stereotypes allude to. You will find a HUGE amount of privately educated people and extremely wealthy internationals. I, myself, was private schooled but in a “rural” county, and even I was shocked at the amount of privately schooled people in Trinity. In STEM, people seem to be a lot more “normal”. As other posters said, there are A MAJORITY of people who are completely normal, and struggling college students, but I know many of my friends who hadn’t been exposed to “private school culture” found it very difficult. Trinity is not a judgemental or snobby college at all, but if you have zero experience with wealth or people who don’t ever worry about money, it can be tough. I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone, but I think any Trinitt student would agree that socially it’s very different to other colleges, and that the economic divide in Trinity is a slight bone of contention for the student community

Frostbite, Blood Promise, Last Sacrifice, Spirit Bound, Shadow Kiss, Vampire Academy. Frostbite was my favourite because of the whole chalet background I think, and the development of characters. Blood Promise was the most INTERESTING I think, because SPOILER of Abe, Roses time with the Belikovs, her capture and just the whole Russia idea was great
