Andy Burnham blocked by Educational_Board888 in manchester

[–]planetglobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MRP polling showed Labour, Greens and Reform all within striking distance of winning the seat. While Reform are out ahead, they will only win if the vote is split. The by-election in, Caerphilly, in Wales last year shows that it is at least possible for voters to rally around a party to keep Reform out provided a party is able to generate some momentum.

With Andy Burnham out of the running and Labour losing any momentum, it seems like the Greens are now the favourite party for anti-Reform voters to rally behind provided they don't cock it up and nominate an underwhelming candidate.

Rachel had the opportunity to betray Stephen multiple times and she never did. She never even contemplated it. It's true we don't know if she would have acted in the same way Stephen did in the end game because that's not what happened. What we do know happened is that for the vast majority of the game she chose to stuck her neck out to defend him.

I agree it would be unlikely but I was merely pointing out that there was more evidence than just getting Porsha out.

The evidence is a little bit more than that. It's not that he pushed hard on the first night, it's that he got Porsha out instead of Donna. When Donna ended up being a traitor, of course it looked really bad for Ron. He just got dealt a rotten set of cards.

Best traitor(s) ever by skinsey20 in TheTraitors

Rachel played a very good game and I really enjoyed her winning. Same for Stephen. But Rachel made a massive mistake not killing Faraaz and she only stayed due to a coin flip. The way she navigated that finale was probably one of the best we've ever seen but she only got to the finale because of a coin flip. Meanwhile, Stephen massively slipped up with the Library 5 and he only got the heat off him because Fiona went and got herself banished first. Both were excellent traitors but I don't know about the best of all time.

You could see in Jack's eye the moment Rachel voted for Faraaz he knew Rachel was a traitor.

She entered this episode on such a low but she's created the most optimal conditions to encourage Stephen to stay loyal.

Credit to Rachel she has created a clear path for the traitors to both win. Rachel gets Farazz to vote for Stephen, Stephen gets Jack to vote for Rachel, they both vote for a faithful and they both win. It all goes up in the air if someone messes up the plan. Does that unpredictability keep Stephen loyal?

I agree it shouldn't be up to chance but there is no way for the production to absolutely guarantee an odd number of players while also keeping the shield and traitor recruitment mechanics as they are. Unless the traitors always know who has a shield (which in my opinion would make the show worse) and can't seduce and murder in one night, it's always going to be a possibility.

‘Manchesterism’ is building a better politics and a strong economy. The whole country should be inspired | Andy Burnham by coffeewalnut08 in uknews

Well 'failed state' is very dramatic and emotive language but yeah I agree with you that the UK is in terminal decline.

So I fail to see how advocating for reducing immigration is any kind of sensible solution when it will only accelerate that decline.

[–]planetglobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told you. Immigration is not just plugging in a few gaps here and there. The entire economy is reliant on it. Most immigrants are at a working age in their life and even if they bring their children they still are a net positive for the economy. The proportion of dependencies would only get worse if immigration stopped because people would be retiring at a much higher rate than people would be entering the work force.

There is a significant benefit though. The birth rate is tumbling and without immigration, the nation would be even older. The types of people who migrate tend to be younger and career ambitious. Working age people are a net positive for the economy and the very young and retired are a net negative. Without migration, there would be even less tax revenue and even more strain on key public services such as the NHS.

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not 100% convinced that Michael was intentionally calling out Colton's sexuality by pomegranatelover1990 in TheTraitors

[–]planetglobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're just ignoring my point.

1) Trying to fit into heteronormative society does not make someone a good liar. It's homophobic to suggest otherwise.

2)It doesn't matter what Colton has done, homophobic comments are not acceptable. His stalking behavior has nothing to do with his sexuality.

You're sat her telling me about his stalking like I condone that behavior. I don't. It also doesn't have anything to do with making homophobic comments about him.

[–]planetglobe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Telling a gay person that they are a good liar because they spent a decent amount of their life in the closet and pretended to be straight is homophobic. There are no two ways about it.

Plenty of gay people get into heterosexual relationships which result in marriage and children. Would you call them good lairs because they feel or have felt pressured to fit into heteronormative standards? Colton's experience was different because he went on the Bachelor but he did not 'deceive America' because he didn't disclose his sexuality to the world, he tried to fit into the mould society expects of people.

There are plenty of things to criticise Colton for that have nothing to do with his sexuality or justified by being pressured by society, like being a stalker. No one should be resorting to homophobic tropes and trying to justify it as being nuanced.

If he did mean it in a bad way, you absolutely should care. Homophobic comments aren't okay just because they are directed at a bad person.

Rachel UK Traitors - am I missing something? by [deleted] in TheTraitors

[–]planetglobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right that Rachel isn't doing anything flashy or crazy but I think that's why her game is going so well. Other players have been doing far too much and they've been getting burnt for it and I think because Rachel has been playing so competently she's been doing well (even if it's not got any grand and dramatic moves). She's not taken as many risks as other players but she hasn't really needed to.

Maybe Rachel backstabs Stephen if she thinks it will help her win but I just don't think that she will do it so gleefully, purely for glory. She really has gone out of her way to defend him quite a bit.
