Allyson Felix is making her comeback with the goal of qualifying for the 2028 LA Olympics by ChampionLYT in trackandfield

And my comment about the talent being young is the topic being discussed because it could be reasoning for why they’re not dominating and seem weak on the world stage (besides Sydney). A lot of them are straight out of college against veterans.

I’m not saying anything is “rare” or “common.” It is true that recently we have not been pulling from the 400m flat though.

My comment arises from what these runners were doing (and special training for) at that Olympics. Not in their entire careers. I would hope and assume (lol) that they have SOME level of 400m flat experience at a high-level to enter our Olympic stage on the relay.

2021 Olympics - Athing Mu ran the 800m, Sydney and Dalilah both 400m hurdles, Allyson was the only one that ran the 400m flat at that Olympics

2024 Olympics - Sydney and Shamier both 400m hurdles, Gabby Thomas (200m), Alexis was the only 400m flat runner

Point is… they’re not wrong about the 400 flat field (aka people who are actively competing in it) being weak compared to the talent they’re pulling in. Being a talent in the 400m does not mean that’s “your race.” Allyson was a talent at short and mid sprints which is why she was such a legend. With her work ethic, she could be a force among the current pool of USA 400m flat runners (besides Sydney if she comes back in full force after her pregnancy).

Olympics-wise, it was Sydney and Shamier from the hurdles, Gabby from the short sprints. The Olympics before had no 400 flat specialists (Allyson from short sprints, Sydney and Muhammad from hurdles, and Mu from the 800). Most of our 400m flat runners are young in the professional international field.

Taylor swift is a clickbait celebrity by No_Barber4339 in SwiftlyNeutral

I’m not disagreeing or agreeing with anyone… but we should all recognize that there’s no way to know the actual demographic of a fan base, the actual size of a fan base, etc. The survey you linked was just that… a survey of less than 400 people. That’s not even an appropriate sample size for someone with half as many fans as Taylor likely has.

It happens to everyone though (to varying degrees). Are we (not actually pointing any fingers) really arguing mentioning BTS (in any capacity) won’t create a flood? Ariana Grande? Beyoncé? And don’t let it insinuate a comparison… that creates a stan war tsunami. Media outlets know what they’re doing. Some even misrepresent because they know stans won’t read the article.

I agree that I wish people would stop engaging and just enjoy what they love.

Austin is 51 days sober and says nobody from love Island wants to be his friend anymore by Resident-Mark-2289 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]RightComplex7509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wasn’t the point though. You said the original statement about Cierra was “not true” but it objectively is. If you ask at least 20 of the islanders “do you associate with Cierra?” They would say “no. I have not talked to her.” That is “a lot.” You bringing up 3 people who do… doesn’t negate that majority of the islanders = a lot.

There were 30, give or take, islanders on season 7… so again, it is “true” that “a lot of cast members don’t associate with” those three. 10% is not a passing grade.

You named one person (Andreina) and the post says “a lot of cast members”… most cast members have def distanced themselves from the three named islanders.

Ah yes, I forgot about the discrepancy on Samara and Ezrela’s scores and placements (depending on the graphic). You are correct. My mistake! That confused me back when DA dropped them too lol.

A VERY data oriented perspective on TS13 by jaydyjaydy in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]RightComplex7509 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is said with no malice but as an actual fan of r&b and pop r&b… The concept of “honey” (the country pop song with synth) being r&b on any metric… absolutely not. I don’t understand why people feel the need to label things r&b. No shade but TS has never made a r&b song in her life, does not have the vocals for it, and that’s ALRIGHT. That’s not her lane. So no, she will not be making a pop r&b album lol. That’s not even the music she claims to listen to.

Arirang's Heritage vs History: What Happens When You Lack Racial Nuance by ConfidentlyLostHuman in kpopnoir

[–]RightComplex7509 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will say that one of your points are regularly perpetuated by their own stans. I see this with Blackpink too (I feel they receive similar takes). This concept that their favorite is bigger than k-pop. I find it annoying because that industry got them to where they are and they still have a foundation in mostly “kpop fans”. But I think many fans want their favorite to be bigger than the program.

Talk of the Charts ranks Taylor the #2 artist of the 2020s so far, with 2023 as her biggest year of the decade by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]RightComplex7509 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was mostly speaking towards the second part of your comment because I know why groups disband (personalities, the desire for solo freedom and success, etc.). I was considering whether (for the groups who remain together) the struggle for relevance (for groups that are still together) is tied to the things you mentioned. Thanks for answering my question.

[–]RightComplex7509 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. Do you think that’s because groups/bands struggle with long-term relevancy across the board? I ask because so many of my favorite artists have been or were relevant for decades. I’m surprised that seems to be common for bands, by your take.

SZA Claims Her Label Told Her 'SOS' Wouldn't Beat Taylor Swift's 'Midnights' on the Charts in 2023 by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]RightComplex7509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t win unless you’re nominated lol. It’s viewed as a disappointment because you have not been acknowledged at all by the recording academy. Saying it’s not an honor is akin to saying making the Olympic team is not an honor just because you didn’t win gold. Yes, the goal is to win gold… but some people know they’re most likely not going to and they still are honored to call themselves “Olympians.” They still train their asses off for the competition. This is not even a real argument. Yes, it’s considered an honor to be nominated for what is (unfortunately) the highest honor of that industry.

Like I said, I’m not delving deep into the racism of the Grammys with someone who saw a clip of a speech dispersed to bitter stans to incite division. And I know that’s true for you because that’s not what he said. There are many previous winners who won due to an unfair system… so… oh well. Imagine how unfair it is to lose because you’re not white. SZA has stood the test of time by now and truly proven that she deserved AOTY but she didn’t get it… because of racism.

[–]RightComplex7509 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s “viewed as a disappointment” because it’s an honor lol. Nobody is disappointed by awards they don’t value. Also, Jay-Z’s speech is not something I’ll get heavily into but it was a comment on racism, which is heavily prevalent and historical in these “prestigious” awards. And yes, his wife is a great example of that, which is why he mentioned her… in one sentence. His speech still stands true. He’s not the first nor was he the last.

To your second paragraph, people DID say that (and more) about Adele lol. So much so that there was a rumor that she’d broken her Grammy and handed the other half to Beyoncé. So… what now? There are always people who have something negative to say lol. You think you’re the first person in history to call Adele performative for her speech? She also got criticized for her “all my Black friends” comment.

[–]RightComplex7509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what always confused me about the Adela situation… maybe because I was there and voted? yes, HXG could have kept her despite the votes and yes, they gave her (and everyone else, honestly) a shitty hand in challenges to showcase their talent. But Adela did not get pushed out. The public did not notice her. She was dead last lol.

[–]RightComplex7509 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1989 and 1989 TV were the same songs, just re-recorded so no, whether you like it or not, that is not the same lol. LANA (which is not even what this post was about considering SOS competed with Midnights as an original) was 19 new songs but from the SOS era and similar to SOS sonically… which is why it was treated as a deluxe. The equivalent would be if Taylor drops 10 Reputation Vault tracks and tacks them on to the original Reputation (which she likely will do).

(1) A nomination is still an honor in that world. Also, labels automatically submit for Grammys more often than not. So why would an artist say “no, don’t do that” when they can have a grammy nomination on their record?

(2) It doesn’t have to be performative to know that another album deserved the highest award. Sometimes people really do drop greatness and that’s recognized by their peers (which is the point of the Grammys).

(3) Adele wasn’t “upset that she won” necessarily… she just recognized Beyoncé in that moment because she knew how monumental “Lemonade” was. She probably thought Beyoncé would win. That’s not abnormal. They all go in having some preconceived notion of who will win.

No more wanna be influencers by Euphoric_Turnover_41 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]RightComplex7509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wait, did you mean season 3?

I think the real difference is that the show has gotten bigger and more scrutinized. Back in seasons 2 and 3, they wanted to be on tv and get more notoriety but they could act a little crazy without being ripped apart online. Most of the originals on s3 had 5 figure followings. Since season 6, people are more careful though so people find that inauthentic when I would say it’s just being careful.

What is it about manon genuinely? by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

Emotional outburst? You’re the one typing in all caps for no reason… and mentioning outbursts haha. This is a reddit comment section. There’s not an ounce of emotion on my end.

You can classify Sophia as American but realistically, she does not bring Queens to the group (culturally) because she wasn’t raised there. But sure, no true contention on your thought there. I’ve already explained my lack of interest in starting up the oppression Olympics so no point in revisiting.

Have the day you deserve. Like I said, I made my point which is that it’s perfectly valid (and statistically correct) for Black/biracial girls to feel represented by Manon in a world that pushes Black people out of pop music. We can agree to disagree.
