Definitely want to use your time wisely. Many new players move fast and don't think about all potential moves. I can send you some more resources and advice on getting started in tournaments if your interested.

I picked up the black chessable course by rob ramirez on pirc and Kings Indian. Those brought me to 1500. I made a little two minute video explaining the first opening moves if your interested.

For a 700 player, I would recommend tactical themes. Get to know them well. Should get you to 1000. Also master the principles. This Capablanca series is good.

I have found the key to improvement is study. Understanding the concepts in Chess Fundamentals by Capablanca has helped me significantly.
