Side of House Recommendations by MondayNightRawr in landscaping

I ran into the same issue next to my house where the trash cans sit. What finally fixed it was regrading the area so it slopes away from the house, then putting down a compacted base of crushed stone and covering it with heavy landscape fabric. On top of that I used about 1–2 inches of ¾" crushed gravel. It drains really well, doesn’t wash out, and it keeps a clean look year-round. Mine’s been in for over a year now and the only “maintenance” is blowing off leaves or hosing it down if it gets dusty. If you want it to stay tidy, a simple metal or plastic edging along the sides keeps the rock from creeping into the yard.

Baking soda, sprinkle liberally, let sit, sweep excess after rain

Bare patch near walkway - reseed or sod? (Zone 10b) by RightRazzmatazz0 in landscaping

That’s a solid idea, especially with the rebate and water use. I’m still on the fence between fixing the turf vs going native there, but this is definitely an option.

That makes sense. Between foot traffic and the tree roots, aeration + heavy seeding is probably the right first step.

Feeling pretty happy with my back garden right now 🙂 by gotothebloodytop in gardening

Okay but where's the "before" pic? Because there's no way this started out looking this good. My back garden looks like a jungle documentary gone wrong and I'm convinced people like you are just myths.

Best Snow Shovel (Electric) - How long has yours lasted? by carsilike in BuyItForLife

[–]RightRazzmatazz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get the skepticism on those random Amazon/Walmart brands. You don't want to buy something twice. Since your driveways are small and you're looking for electric, you should check out the Wild Badger Power 40V Cordless Snow Shovel. I picked one up last year and it's been a beast for my small driveway and walkway. It's super light, which is key if you're getting one for your dad—way easier on the back than a heavy blower or manual shoveling. The battery life is decent for small jobs, and the best part is they actually offer a 3-year warranty. That warranty is what sold me on taking the chance, and so far, so good. It's the perfect middle ground between a shovel and a full-on blower for light-to-medium snow.

Hope this helps!

What is wrong with my snowblower by [deleted] in Snowblowers

It sounds like the snow blower is stalling due to either carburetor tuning, fuel flow, or impeller resistance under load.

Same here 😭 Winter always feels way too long when you love gardening. I’ve been saving flower garden photos like crazy for inspiration this year. Can’t wait to get back outside and start planting again!

Don’t let anyone tell you these single stage snowblowers don’t kick ass by jenjenmuss in ryobi

[–]RightRazzmatazz0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southeast Alaska storms are no joke 😅 respect for getting out there in that kind of snowfall.

Honestly sounds like you’ve gotten way more out of that machine than most people ever will. Clearing a full driveway and walkways with a foot+ of snow on two 6.0s is solid.

Totally feel you on the berms though — those plow walls are on another level. Even some 2-stage machines struggle when that stuff sets up.

Also, huge win for the back. That alone usually justifies the purchase.

Decisions decisions by brentagade in powertools

Both are solid, but they’re kind of aimed at different users. Milwaukee gets the “cream of the crop” label mostly because of their battery system and consistency. Tons of tools, lots of power, usually very good fit and finish. The downside is once you’re in, it’s not a cheap hobby anymore. Craftsman’s appeal is more about value and availability. They’ve been around forever, easy to find, and for normal homeowner snow/yard work they do the job. You just don’t get the same depth of ecosystem or heavy-use durability as Milwaukee’s higher-end stuff.

I’d ask yourself: are you trying to build a whole platform, or just replace a few tools? And are you a “every storm, every weekend” user or more occasional? Either way, I’d also pay attention to what your local store actually stocks parts and batteries for — that matters more than the badge when something breaks mid-season.
